Picking the perfect MLP Name?

Ok, so when I joined this site, I chose the name Silver Dusk because Dusk was my first gamertag I've ever had, and there is actually a street near my house called Silver Dusk and it just sounded like a cool pony name. But I really want a name that better suits me since I don't really go by Dusk anymore. I've got a few ideas in my head, but I'd like to hear some other suggestions from you guys.

 

To start with my interests, gaming is my #1 passion. I've been playing video games all my life, and don't see myself stopping any time soon, so I'm trying to think of a name that reflects that. My nickname is Mack because its a part of my last name, and usually my gamertags are some sort of pun on that word like Mack n Cheese, Mackaroni, Mack in the Box, etc. So it'd be cool to incorporate that word too, but its more important to me that the name reflects who I am, and not just a nickname.

 

So anyone have any suggestions? Also I apologize if this is in the wrong place, I couldn't decide if it should go here or in the creative forums.

Well, if you want some suggestions on finding cool sounding words that you can construct a new name out of, a few good places to look would be:

1. The Periodic Table of Elements. Movies and TV Shows pull words from this all the time (ex. Superman's home planet, Krypton, is an element on the table)

2. Look for a list of greek names. Those usually sound pretty cool too.

You could try throwing the word "gamer" or something of that sort in too. Just my 2 bits.

Well for my character, it is pretty much me. I tend to nit pick a lot, I am also a bit OCD; as well as tending to be a perfectionist in gaming, art, computers, etc. Honestly just finding a good play on words works too.  One of my other characters who's talent is making frozen treats (mostly ice cream) is named Scoop Itup. I merged two words together to make it sound like a last name.

 

Also if you need to stick out, I say avoid using common sounding "cool" names. Try looking up in deviant art with My Little Pony friendship is magic (name part ex: Silver, Midnight) in the search. If it comes up with a few results, then it would be best to pick something else. I came up with a few OCs with the first name Midnight. Unless you want to go with a name that is "common in Equestria" just like John is as common in real life. If you know what I mean.

Try to just choose 2 words, and adjective and a noun that reflects you're personality, like if you're a very dark person..maybe...mystic moonlight or something...

When I was creating my OC I took what I wanted my life to be if I could choose any path that I wanted. My "destiny" and my love of the stars has been with me since I was little. I took that and then added my personality to her and threw in a back story of what I thought a pegasus would go through with some tidbits of my real life sprinkled in. I wanted something different, I knew I wanted "Star" involved (for obvious reasons lol) but .. starlight was too "bright" for my personality, same with Starshine or Shining Star, I thought maybe Star Gazer but that was only part of my love of the stars. I loved the mythology, constellations, the fact that they are so bright even though when we see them they have already gone out. Something that is part of me and everything else. 

 

I came up with Stardust.  

 

Just take a look at your personality, like a good long look. Think of something that is personal and means something to you. Maybe something like the first game you ever played that is sentimental to you. 

 

Something that is unique to you. Something that when you say it, just feels right. It could take a little bit, but that is okay. Also think about the way you want your pony to look, think about the cutie mark, and think about who the pony is. 

 

Then come up with the back story, create a story that forms to the pony maybe when you are writing it a name will just pop out.
