Pound Cake and Pumpkin Cake are prodigies?

Twilight struggled to move a page of a book with her telekinesis when she was a filly older than Pumpkin Cake yet Pumpkin Cake learned to lift herself using her magic.

And Pound Cake could fly at his age without going to flight camp and Scootaloo cannot fly at her age.

So in a sense is the Cake children prodigies, natural born geniuses or something? Filled with a lot of magic?

The way I figure, the younger a pony is, the more easily they have access to magic, while as they age, they lose it, gradually, unless they teach themselves and use it often. Much like how some stories tell of kids having this pure, innocence, able to see faeries and unicorns and whatnot, because of the innocence of youth, but as adults, they stop beleiving that stuff is real, because their innocence and belief is lost. Might work the same way with ponies and magic, unless they train themselves to keep believing in the magic and using it well into adulthood.

They did explain that baby unicorns get crazy magic spikes when they are young so there is an out for Pumpkin Cake's powers. As for Pound Cake's flight, we've never seen a baby pegasus before and from what we've learned from Flight to the Finish is that Scootaloo has rather poor wing performance so a comparison between the two is unfair.

Yes, I think infants have a brief magic surge at an early age & then grow out of it.  Although, considering Dash, Fluttershy & Scootaloo it is clear some Pegasi do learn to fly earlier & better than others (The force is strong within this one & that is why Dash could do a Rainboom at such an early age)
