Dark Qiviut 22,500 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 One of the reasons I'm so analytical and bluntly critical of poor-quality episodes like Rainbow Falls, Bridle Gossip, Dragon Quest, or Princess Spike is because they can deliver a poor first impression. Not everyone starts at the pilot, and not everyone will know what the show is until they view it for the first time or receive a recommendation. Why a first impression is so important is it can influence whether he or she will eventually follow the product, either for themselves or their kids. If the episode is great, then you help generate an audience. But if the episode sucks, then it delivers an impression that good shows like FIM aren't, and they may avoid it, either temporarily or permanently. So, I have a "What If" for you. Think about the episode you dislike or hate the most (or if neither, like the least). Say you were never a brony, and you decided to try it out. That one FIM episode you really dislike the most is the first one you ever saw. If your least favorite episode is your debut to the show, would you give up on FIM immediately and find something else, or would you explore the show more and find a better-written episode? My most hated is The Crystal Empire for reasons explained here. Honestly, if this was what introduced me to FIM, I might've given up and ranted far worse than in my rant. The idea that a leader like Celestia would literally treat thousands of lives a pawn for a possible greater good and be treated as a good thing by the writers would've mortified me. I would've wondered how the hell anyone would love a show with such a positive influence on people when such a supposed role model like Celestia could commit something so evil and have it treated as a positive. 3Dode 55 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 (edited) I would still try to look more into the show, since we'll I like the animation and characters. Edited November 10, 2015 by Carter3bo Look at this objectively.
Moonlight 7,288 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 I would definitely look into the show more. Even if I saw garbage like Princess Spike (which took three tries to sit through mind you) or Brotherhooves Social (which was just gross) as my first episode, I wouldn't give up on the show. Every show has at least one bad episode so judging an entire show based on one episode you saw seems pretty unfair. Besides I tend to watch 3-5 episodes of a show before deciding if I'm into it. matching setups with my bff pathfinder
Memory Lane 131 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 Off the top of my head, "Spike at Your Service" is my least enjoyed episode. I hate that life debt cliche. Still, it's a quality animated show overall, so I imagine I'd still look into more episodes.
Cimarronboy 248 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 Well then I'd say the worst would be over (insert timmy's dad loathing voice saying "Trenderhoof" here). Now if it were the auto dislike situation well that wouldn't happen, as it was the first episode, and that one had me hooked from the moment pinkie gasped and 'Bloom pouted, and pinkie sang... Rare's gorgeous eyes getting big was the lethal dose of icing on the top.
mars 4,863 November 10, 2015 Share November 10, 2015 I really, really dislike the first two episodes of MLP- just didn't like them. I always start from the beginning of a show, so I know that the first couple of episodes tend to suck. I kept watching. If I saw an episode of a show and didn't like it when I was first trying to watch it, I'd watch another one. It took me three times (in a span of two months or so) to get through the first few episodes of Wander Over Yonder. And now I love that show to death. It all depends.

I agree on the Pilot being pretty weak, looking back Season 1 doesn't really kick into high gear till like Winter Wrap up, though before that I still really love Look Before you Sleep and Applebuck Season, and Dragonshy and Boast busters have a special place in my heart for being my First live episode and first episode overall respectively. But to answer the initial question if I started with Some Pony to Watch Over Me Id keep watching, since one of the biggest reasons I hate that episode so much is predicated on me knowing Applejacks Character beforehand and finding her deeply OOC. cider float 2,539 November 11, 2015 Share November 11, 2015 That would be an improbable case because I would have to be a completely different person. I don't watch a series out of order.
Kivil 1,721 November 11, 2015 Share November 11, 2015 Well my friend and I did binge watch it on netflix so we wouldn't have cared about the first episode. ~My life is a bunch of Discord~Yes, the pun was intended~Kivil~
