Hi all!

We in the RolePlay World section of the forum have put together a new service for everyone interested in roleplaying on our Forum. If you're new to the idea of roleplaying and need some help to get started, or are just looking for advice for your own roleplays, we now have special staff members called 'Roleplay Mentors' to help you.

Interesting, I might check this out. Quick question though, is this limited to MLP-only Roleplays? Can it be others like, for example, and Ace-Attorney Roleplay or something/

I'm gonna post this here and on the other page but I'd love to help, if you need anyone else to help. I don't need ought just letting the relevant people know.

It's for any roleplaying you want to do in Roleplay World, meaning on this forum. The advice they have is more geared towards roleplaying, and roleplaying on forums in particular. If you need anything specific to certain scenarios and settings, and how to roleplay on other forums or systems, that starts to get a bit tricky and we're going to have troubles helping. :)

Thanks for the offer of help, we'll keep it in mind. We're kinda piloting this program right now, and we don't know how much response we're going to get. So we honestly don't know how many Mentors we're really going to need.

I thought about going ahead and setting up a thread like that myself, but... well, I'm not entirely certain it would be found appropriate in the OOC category and I haven't really found a more proper position for it, so maybe running it through the vox popular might be a correct way to approach this.

Now, I admire the effort set in place to help those feeling unsure of themselves in one aspect or another when it comes to roleplaying, but is the PM-driven system really for the best? While I understand some people might benefit from the privacy (although having to post about one's problem in the thread kind of defeats that purpose), wouldn't a more open repository of Q&A prove to be even more helpful in the long run? The mentors could save time by just pointing potential help-seekers to the previous cases and only get really involved if there was further need for clarifications.

Or maybe not. Maybe a fat thread would scare away users not wanting to have to go through an elongated search and afraid of being shouted at for "not using the search button" or something. What about those who would like to work to improve their skills without precisely needing to build from the ground level up? Wanting to share ideas or exchange opinions? I know I've had a few interesting thoughts pass through my noggin over the last few days as I'm drilling ever deeper into the details of an RP I hope to launch and wouldn't mind an occasion to start a conversation on some of the roleplaying's meta aspects, among other things.

What do you think? Would there be a place (and a following) for such a thread? Or maybe I'm just missing the existence of a similar venue in some other category -- which would be kinda embarrassing after I've typed this wall of text about it, but still an improvement of my current situation...

BlackRoseRaven's Ninety Nine Worlds' Saga: Norse mythology, adventure, humor and drama. Top-notch writing -- and lots of it!

Also, check out my RP, promising adventure, skirmishes, and discovering age-old secrets in Equestria gone dark and dreary.

The RP mentor program has been a long time in the works, and we've decided this is the best way to go. There are a couple of reasons we decided to go with a PM system over that of a thread. The first, as you mentioned, was privacy. Personally, I don't want anyone to know what I don't know when it comes to forum topics. Being an introvert, I would personally be a lot more comfortable with a one-on-one guide to help me with RPing rather than a massive thread. We do have help threads for different topics spread out on the forums (example). In threads of that size though, requests for help get missed, and it can feel far more impersonal. Also having two conflicting opinions can confuse members.

That being said, it doesn't mean the mentor program won't change in the future, it won't evolve into other things. This is an initial trial run mostly to see if people are interested. The first step is determining if the need is there.
