I am wondering if there is any way to become a moderator, or is a moderator just chosen?

Generally, a moderator would be appointed in case of being short-handed, meaning that the mods before have stepped down from their positions.  If you're trustworthy enough, and you contribute a lot(Well, in my viewpoint.  Correct me if I'm wrong), you will get the offer.

You become a mod by signing up for it. Then eventually they'll accept or reject you as a mod. When I did it it took them 6 months before going over mine. Sorry I cant provide links to this I'm using Xbox One to type.

They post a recuitement post from time to time if new ones are needed that forum members can request to be selected for consideration. The actual criteria they use to decide who becomes one is up to them tho I figure being very active and not a douchebag are good starting points XD

You need to be the chosen one  and strong with the force to be able to reach the Status of moderation master but first you will start off as padawan moderator then  your master will train you in the ways of the force and the moderation tools, 

 

The council will open the applications when the dark side has grown stronger and they need more jedi to fight agaist the sith, then it is your choice if you apply or not and then your application will be rewieved by the council they will decide if you're strong enough with the force and after that they will offer you a chance to learn the ways of the force

 

however be careful since any jedi can fall into the dark side if they desire for power grows stronger than their sense of justice and the Jedi order is here to keep order and peace

I have to put emphasis on a single line for everyone that is looking to become a moderator through a moderator application:

 

At times, we have had recruiting drives in the past and when we do we will post a topic in Canterlot Castle.

I am highlighting this part as multiple people here has mentioned that the method used to choose moderators is through a moderator application. While not wrong, keep on mind that we still do have our original invitation process. The moderator application exists as a procedure to find candidates whom we might otherwise overlook with our first system, and it is never a safe ticket to become part of the staff, specially due for its availability not always being there. If you have what it is needed to be a moderator, you will be contacted at one point or another, depending of the current situation and other factors.
