So is Canterlot kind of the Washington D.C of Equestria?

I would say New York but we already have Manehattan and Canterlot is the seat of power with Celestia, Luna and other high-ranking officials. So would comparing Canterlot to Washington D.C be an apt comparison?

I could see this being accurate, though Canterlot seems really royal in comparison. I would almost compare it to...maybe London? Only because D.C. doesn't seem to have a whole lot, but I could be wrong there.

Yeah, that would make sense. Canterlot is kind of the Capitol of Equestria. We know that their are others countries made to mimic real life ones, so it makes sense.

I've never been to Washington D.C. but as a British native I have been to London, and IMO the royal feel of Canterlot fits perfectly with the better-off boroughs of London, such as Kensington.

Canterlot = Camelot. There is no Washington, D.C. expy. The only thing it has in common is being the capital. This isn't a straight-up copy of the US.
