Copper nodded and turned put the options needed for his dishes to clean.  After he turned it on, he then faced Midnight.  "I can help out as much as I can.  I may not know how to do the things that they're doing, but it won't stop me from learning.  So, are you ready to go to my training area?"

Midnight shrugged, still unsure how helpful Copper could be, especially since he didn't live close enough to the castle to be there for them as often add he might want to. "Sure, let's get going."

He quickly returned to his room to grab his cloak and journal before returning to the kitchen.

Copper nodded at Midnight as he returned with his cloak.  "Follow me."

He led Midnight out of his house and to a private area near the Everfree forest.  It was a mostly flat area with a hill to the side, perfect for Spin Dashing to get used to higher speeds.  He pointed to that hill once they made it there.  "If you see me on the top of that hill, it's because I want to try to go faster than how fast I can go."

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight nodded, it made sense to use a ramp to go faster, extra potential energy to convert into kinetic energy and all that. He used that same method by running down the mountain path, though his method was quite a bit more dangerous as it was full of obstacles. Still, this was a very nice field that Copper had here to practice on.

Midnight took a seat in a place that he could easily see the whole practice field, his cloak keeping the sun off of his black furred back. "Nice place you have here, pretty peaceful really. If it had a river where the forest is it would be just like the fields at the base of Archback."

Copper nodded at Midnight.  It was peaceful here, and he had taken some time to admire it.  As he saw Midnight take a seat, he cricked his neck a couple of times, then started stretching, in order to keep his flexibility in check.  After a few minutes of stretching, he proceeded to Spin Jump like he did before he first raced Midnight back to the castle.

Midnight watched Copper start his practicing for a bit before retrieving the journal he had bright with him. It was nice really, talking a break from managing the children and the delegates. To simply sit here with his thoughts. He almost forgot about how worked he was about the Order's progress, but at least now it didn't seem quite so pressing.

He gave a contented sigh as he read from the beginning of his journal, this one having been started only a year or so prior.

Copper had been spin jumping for at least a couple of minutes, but he was now ready to move on to his next phase, running around the hill that was there.  He trotted to his usual starting area, which was conveniently marked as such, then took a ready position.  He silently counted before taking off in a full gallop around the hill.

Midnight seemed to mutter to himself as he read, only paying a little bit of attention to what Copper was doing. He would occasionally flip to an incomplete page near the back to write something down before returning to where he was reading in his own past.

Copper, after a few laps of running, stopped and took a break from his training.  He decided to check up on what Midnight was doing, so he walked over to stallion and said, "What'cha doing?  Taking a few notes, or reading something?"  He was quite curious as to what was going on with Midnight.

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight looked up with a bit of surprise at Copper's interest, "Oh? I'm just journalling, reading back through my past experiences in an attempt to get a better idea for what the future might hold. It's a bit more peaceful here than back at Archback, being so far from all the paperwork that usually takes up my day, so it's a bit easier to focus on remembering my own past."

Copper seemed intrigued, but he decided to let him go about his business for the moment.  "That's cool.  Well, I'll ;eave you to your business while I go on top of the hill.  Gotta push myself beyond a racing pegasus."

He then trotted up the hill and started stretching a bit more before getting himself in a ready position.

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight watched as Copper made his way up the hill, idly tapping the feathered end of his quill to his chin. The thought occurred to him that he might actually look pretty cool with a beard.

He turned his attention back to his journal and began to draw the scene around him. In a thousand years he had actually gotten decently good at sketching scenery.

Copper was ready to Spin Dash.

He got himself at a ready position, then charged up a slow Spin Dash.  He released his technique, gradually increasing his speed as he went down a hill.  Once he got to the bottom, he made a sharp turn before pushing himself harder, trying to go faster than his initial speed.

He managed to do it, and made a few laps around the hill before coming to a stop.  But his dashing came with a price, as he winced in pain.  The resulting speed he got from his Spin Dash made his hooves hurt a bit more than he was accustomed to, but he was able to walk it off, for now.

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight gave a slight smile as he watched Copper dash down the hill incredibly fast before he turned back down to draw the motion in his sketch of the scene, drawing in a rather detailed version of Copper in motion complete with the speed blur of his hooves as he moved.

"Heh, if you keep up improvement like that you may just beat my lightning sprint some day. Maybe I should start practicing too. Wouldn't want to lose the title of fastest Earth Pony." As ill deserved as it might be.

That just hit the competitive spirit in Copper.  Midnight's words have given him hope that he might be able to beat the Lightning Sprint.  He grinned at the older stallion, saying, "Why don't you join me, then?  I always enjoy having a training partner, it allows be to go faster than I would normally go."

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight looked a bit unsure, "Well, you know I can't do the lightning sprint without Sir and we both know your spin dash is much faster than my top unassisted. I don't see how my participation would help your spin dash go any faster. Besides, it would make my trip back to Archback tomorrow much less enjoyable if I were to really exert myself today. A proper workout would leave me sore tomorrow after all."

Nonetheless, he stood up and stretched before stowing his journal away. "Though, I suppose some less strenuous exercise would be good for me."

Copper shrugged as Midnight got up from his spot.  "Well, you don't have to.  I can understand that you might not want to, but it's fine if you do."

He stretched out his hooves some more before trotting back up the hill, making a mental note to try and steer clear of his companion while he's exercising.

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight went from his light stretching to a series of more complicated stretches, betraying a level of flexibility most Earth ponies lacked. If one watched closely, they could see faint sparks of lightning arcing through his coat at the apex of some of the stretches. It seemed to rejuvenate him actually much better than the previous stretches had.

Copper watched as Midnight performed his stretches, eyeing the lightning from him.  He wondered how that would be possible, but he decided to ask about it later.

He got himself in a ready position, then charged a Spin Dash that was a bit faster than the last one.  He once again was able to go faster than before, and after a few laps he stopped a few meters from Midnight.  But the pain from before got worse, and he visibly groaned after sitting down.

@@DwhitetheGamer,

Midnight paused his stretching to look over at Copper with a slightly worried expression, "Hey, don't push yourself too hard. If you end up in the hospital you'll lose out on most of the benefit from exercising. You don't have to constantly push at your limits in order to improve, sometimes taking it a bit easier will lead to improvement as well if you train up your breathing and flexibility instead of just your speed."

The resting lasted for about 5 minutes, but Copper felt that he was ready to forgo his training again.  He got up from his spot and moved a few paces away from said spot, and started to stretch, just to make sure he didn't tear a ligament or pull a muscle.  He then craned his neck and started bouncing slightly from the ground, testing how well he would be able to Spin Jump.

His hooves felt okay, but he knew that he shouldn't do anything strenuous.  So he kept stretching for a while.
