TheMarkz0ne 962 January 21, 2016 Share January 21, 2016 I wanted to make one final post before I take my leave for schooling. I wanted it to be an interesting topic that could gain popularity. Now I am making an argument, that Chrysalis is not a Queen. She would be an Empress. Chrysalis isn't sharing a throne with a king. I know we call insect queens the head rulers of a typical insect queendom in most case. Chrysalis is a pony-bug hybrid. Do you prefer the title of Queen? Or Empress? In a FiM fiction, I would label her Empress if she conquered Equestria and the nations/land beyond it.. Like the alternate reality in season 5, I believe she took the Gryphon homeland and even conquered less intelligent species like Yaks... Species like dragons are the only race that would be free from an Empress Chrysalis.
cmarston1 5,962 January 23, 2016 Share January 23, 2016 Seeing how we haven't seen or heard anything about changelings since the season 2 finale (not counting the small cameo) I don't think we know enough about how their land and government work to actually come up with whether or not Chrysalis should be an empress instead of a queen. TheMarkz0ne 962 January 23, 2016 Author Share January 23, 2016 (edited) Seeing how we haven't seen or heard anything about changelings since the season 2 finale (not counting the small cameo) I don't think we know enough about how their land and government work to actually come up with whether or not Chrysalis should be an empress instead of a queen. There's clearly no changeling king though. It's obvious the changelings are a matriarchy type species. Chrysalis isn't a cowardly queen/empress. She will put herself on the front line for her people. I hope we explore the badlands and a changeling empire. Edited January 23, 2016 by TheMarkz0ne
cider float 2,539 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 (edited) That isn't what's weird what's weird is why the Crystal EMPIRE is called an empire when it's a single nation ruled by a PRINCESS. EDIT: Ehem I meant princess... eh Edited January 24, 2016 by cider float
Sazama Ichida 2,367 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 The same can be said about Cadence. Since she rules an Empire and not a Kingdom. The White Shinigami
Denim&Venöm 19,888 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 The Kingdom Of Equestria: Ruled by 4 Princesses, not a King or Queen The Crystal Empire: Ruled by a Prince and Princess. Once ruled by a King. Not by an Emporor or Empress.Princes and Princesses rule Principalities. Yeah, it's pretty obvious that the textbook definitions of royal titles have zero worth in Equestria.
WindShear 543 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 Well the show says that she is a queen, and there really isn't enough information to go off of in order to challenge whether she should be called a queen or an empress. In order to determine her title we would have to know how many/what types of holdings she rules over. If Chrysalis rules over one independent state, then generally her nation would be referred to as a Kingdom, and thus she would be a queen (Whether or not there is a king is irrelevent). If Chrysalis rules over multiple countries/regions then her nation would be referred to as an empire, making her an empress. Then again, MLP isn't well known for accurately portraying feudal governments/monarchies.
cider float 2,539 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 I guess it makes as much sense as their leaders being princesses and no queens. Queens only being Chrysalis.
Malinter 3,064 January 24, 2016 Share January 24, 2016 (edited) Nah. Changlings have a hive mentality so Chyrisalis is *literally* their queen. Also the changlings in the show have no empire of their own per-se. They move from place to place finding love to nourish them. In the comics they do have a permanent place of operations but this is mostly due to Chrysalis having her ass handed to her and with no food behind her and Equestria in front of her. She and her minions are more or less stuck there XD Edited January 24, 2016 by Malinter 1 My OC's: Malinter, Rahl, Vengeful impact & alias-the-marked-one First fic i've written since forever here Skype: Malinter@Outlook.com "Defeating a sandwich only makes it tastier." most legendary quote ever. cider float 2,539 January 25, 2016 Share January 25, 2016 (edited) Oh yeah and the Griffons had a king rather than a prince or princess. Sombra was considered a king when he ruled the Crystal Empire. Edited January 25, 2016 by cider float
Ashen Pathfinder 16,163 January 25, 2016 Share January 25, 2016 Well, the same logic could be applied to Sombra. If we are to consider the Crystal Empire a true empire, which the ponies of Equestria obviously do, then instead of King Sombra it would be Emperor Sombra. There are a couple of noted to take in: 1. As previously stated human nomenclature has little impact on Equestria 2. We have next to no actual canon info regarding the Changelings. If you accept the comics as such then we know that no actual Changeling empire exists and that Chrysalis pretty much called herself queen after one of her invasions; IIRC. Again, comics aren't 100% canon depending on how you look at them. So yeah, by our own nomenclature it would make more sense to consider Chrysalis as an empress, but in the world of MLP, it just doesn't work like that. ManaMinori 4,146 January 25, 2016 Share January 25, 2016 That isn't what's weird what's weird is why the Crystal EMPIRE is called an empire when it's a single nation ruled by a PRINCESS. EDIT: Ehem I meant princess... eh maybe the Crystal Empire was bigger 1000 years ago, and encompassed ALL of Equestria, rather than only a miniscule portion that it has, today. Maybe the founders of Equestria only came across the land shortly after the Empire vanished, and named the area Equestria, unknowingly, colonized it, an when the Empire returned, it had less territory, no longer qualifying to be an actual empire, due to Equetria's nation monopoly Under the Jellicle Moon- a site with cuteness, cat boys, and comic strips / Star Dreams Fanclub
cider float 2,539 January 26, 2016 Share January 26, 2016 I always made the mistake of calling it the Crystal Kingdom rather than the Crystal Empire because that must of made more sense to my subconscious which it does... but MLP logic. maybe the Crystal Empire was bigger 1000 years ago, and encompassed ALL of Equestria, rather than only a miniscule portion that it has, today. Maybe the founders of Equestria only came across the land shortly after the Empire vanished, and named the area Equestria, unknowingly, colonized it, an when the Empire returned, it had less territory, no longer qualifying to be an actual empire, due to Equetria's nation monopoly Then the question comes to why they went from emperors to kings/princesses. If the Crystal Empire used to been many different countries that would make sense. Looking at how small it is in comparison to what many countries would be though I highly doubt it.
