@@Illiad Easle,

Their pursuers wouldn't be so easily deterred. After putting some distance between themselves and the Waldorf, Swift and Janeri were flanked by three pegasi on the right and two on the left.

"Regards from Mr. Steel. Take the Zebra alive, kill the pegasus!" Yelled the leader as he pulled out a gun and began firing, the rest of the team following suit.

@@crispy fries,

"Well, they're certainly better equipped than I thought." With a practiced motion he deployed his wing-blades, just in case they got close enough to the carriage though it was unlikely. As many know, ranged attacks at any speed, especially in flight, are extremely difficult to pull off successfully, thus the bullets were going everywhere from the five guns. Swift pushed himself hard, but he couldn't hope to out-fly his unencumbered pursuers.

He pulled into a steep dive, pulling up just above the other carriages on the roadway. He hoped it would draw at least some attention if the gunshots did not. "There should be a mini cartridge crossbow in my bags if you want to return fire. Aim for their eyes."

As the Pegasi on the left continued their pursuit, Salleria dived to intercept one of them, using her umbrella as a shield Mid air. Going too fast to stop, the Pegasus crashed into the metal umbrella, plummeting to the ground below.

In a fluid motion, Salleria used the momentum she had gained from the bash to turn her weapon around behind her, where the Second Pegasus had flown past her. He looked back at Salleria, eyes widening.

'I'm sorry.'

A small tear gathered at the corner of her eye as she locked on to the Pegasus and fired. It was a homing magical bolt. He either had to change his path drastically and hope to outmaneauver the projectile or explode and die mid-air.

Either way, it was one less pursuer.

Salleria dropped from the air, diving close to the streets after the carriage. She caught up to the carriage, landing in front of Janeri and opening her weapon up just in time for a buller to bounce harmlessly off it.

@crispy fries

Salleria handed Janeri a flashbang grenade. "Pull the pin and drop in in the carriage, and it will blind anypony looking at it."

She proceeded to fly off once again. Cold steel would without doubt deploy unicorn mages on the roofs.

Janeri pulled the vial out of his suit pocket, shook it, and threw it at their pursuers. It hit one of the pegasi square in the face, surrounding him in a yellow cloud of gas. He fell to the ground unconscious, leaving one Pegasus left.

@@Illiad Easle,

A black carriage filled with more of Steel's thugs pulled up beside them, sideswipping the carriage.

@,

Several unicorns showed up on the rooftops, shooting and casting spells at the carriage.

"Salleria, would you be so kind as to deal with that?" Janeri yelled.

@Everyone

She proceeded to fly off once again. Cold steel would without doubt deploy unicorn mages on the roofs.

A unicorn was knocked unconscious the second he accessed the roof access. Salleria gritted her beak.

'I can't subdue them faster than they can shoot at the carriage, and they shoot at too many angles for me to block everything...'

She flew lowly across the roofs, knocking out the unsuspecting unicorns which were engrossed with landing their magic on the carriage. She estimated that a single run cleared 3 blocks of unicorns.

'I'll have to make myself a target.'

She flew up to the pegasus chasing the carriage, taking potshots at the unicorns on the roofs as she went. Explosions were created, but most of her shots missed. Though it did succeed in drawing some amount of attention. She flicked her umbrella, blue-hot 'exhaust pellets' ejecting themselves onto the ground below. God forbid it hit any pedestrians.

Salleria grabbed the pegasus and threw him towards an incoming unicorn spell, using the opposite force generated from the push to accelerate towards the carriage. She landed on top of the carriage, blocking incoming unicorn spells with her weapon while returning fire of her own.

"The pegasi are down." she called out to Janeri. "We need a permanent solution to this. Can't dodge forever. They'll get lucky eventually."

A green bolt grazed the side of the carriage, causing splinters to fly everywhere from Salleria's side, as if emphasising her point.

Salleria nodded her head towards the carriage on the side. "I can take care of those guys if you want, though, it will leave the carriage open to attack.  Do you want to risk it?" she asked.

@,

Before Janeri had time to respond, a pegasus crashed through the carriage window. He made an attempt to hit Janeri with the butt of his shotgun, but was thrown off balance by the movement of the carriage. Janeri pinned him with one hoof and hit him in the face with the other.

"Swift and I can deal with the carriage, you take out the thugs on the rooftops," he said as he picked up the shotgun.

Janeri aimed and fired at the window of the carriage across from him, hitting a thug in the shoulder.

Swift did not take kindly to being side swiped by the other carriage, readying the vial he adjusted his course to line himself up with the other carriage and threw the vial inside before pulling ahead. He swung towards the other carriage driver in an attempt to strike him with his wing blades, or even sever the connection between the driver and the carriage.

The vial hit the front of the carriage, enveloping the driver in gas. The carriage swerved wildy for a few seconds before falling to the ground.

"Good throw," Janeri commented before turning his attention to the unicorns on the rooftops.

Firing a blast from his shotgun, he brought one of the thugs down. It was difficult shooting, as every target was a moving target.

"Is anyone else following us? I know a place we can lay low but I'm not going there until we aren't being followed. It does us no good if they know where we're hiding. Plus, if you make a good impression on this mare I know we might be able to find that artifact a bit easier." Swift continued to dodge the attacks from above as best he could, but the carriage was a bit unwieldy and the damage had made it slightly imbalanced.

Salleria nodded, taking a moment to aim and firing at one of the unicorns on the roofs. The magical projectile penetrated through the concrete wall between her and her target, landing a hit on his torso.

'Live, and leave this place' she hoped internally.

Another green bolt of magic barreled through the air towards her on her right. She moved her shield to block the attack, only to get hit by a stray bullet from one of the thugs. She growled in pain, leaving a flash grenade on top of the carriage and ducking into the vehicle itself.

@@crispy fries@@Illiad Easle,

As she did, the grenade exploded in a brilliant light, surely , any pony looking directly at the carriage would be blinded.

Salleria took this moment to speak to her comrades. "Janeri, Swift. Ditch the carriage and head into the sewers. I'll meet you at the sewers underneath your apartment. I'll continue moving the carriage to distract them. sound good?"

She brought out her last grenade. This one was a white cylinder. "This is a smoke grenade. I'll use it at the next manhole or sewer access we come across. Inside the smoke, we will switch positions and you 2 can get into the sewers through the manhole."

"Seems like a good plan. Are you sure you will be alright?" Janeri asked, "You've been shot, and I would not wish to leave you to the mercy of these thugs in a wounded state. There is also the matter of the police. This incident will not simply go unnoticed, and you could very well be arrested."

Salleria snorted. "Don't worry worry about me. You don't have the time". she said, pulling the pin on the smoke grenade. The handle hadn't been released yet. "I believe that there is a manhole at the next right turn. This is the only way you can escape steel. His influence spreads throughout the whole city."

She sighed.

"Meet me up in the sewers under your apartment, then we can go meet whatever contact Swift believes can help us."

Salleria prepared to toss the grenade on the roof of the carriage. When it explodes, it would create a cloud of smoke 5 meters in radius, enough to engulf the carriage. The smoke would last long enough for the group to escape the carriage into a manhole below the carriage while Salleria took over.

@@crispy fries, @,

As much as Swift did not like the griffon, the plan was decent. he adjusted himself within the carriage bindings so he could quickly escape from it.

As soon as the smoke deployed he would drop from the carriage, use the metal of his wing-blades to pry open the sewer cover, and drop down.

Salleria, noting that the others were ready, released the grenade. Within seconds, smoke gushed out of the grenade, shrouding the carriage in a thick, white smoke.

She hurriedly switched places with Swift, grunting in discomfort as the carriage's bindings grazed against her wound.

Salleria would for the others to get under and close the manhole before taking off, leaving an easily traceable trail of smoke behind her for hmthe pursuers to follow.

@,

The cover was just about as heavy as Swift expected, but with a discrete application of his own magic he got it open and was able to hold it for the zebra to drop down first. He knew he couldn't hold it for long and hoped the zebra would hurry and get down there so he too could enter and close the cover.

Janeri jumped down into the sewer, gesturing for Swift to follow. The grimy water rose to his knees, further ruining his suit. The sewer had little light, and its putrid stench caused Janeri to recoil in disgust. He still had the shotgun he had taken from one of the thugs, so he was at least not defenseless.

With a bit more conspicuous use of magic, yet still concealed by the smoke, Swift quickly grabbed his bags from the carriage before dropping after the zebra, securing the sewer cover as he did so. He came down slowly, his eyes quickly growing accustomed to the dark sewer tunnels. He idly hovered over the surface of the water beside the zebra, retrieving a flashlight from his bags he lit it to illuminate the sewers. "We should get moving, I don't think it will be long before they decide to check the sewers for us."
