"Well, now that we have regrouped, and are sure nopony, and no griffin, is dead, we can move to Swift's safe house. We will collect ourselves and plan out our next step. Swift, lead the way. By the way, Salleria, as I had suggested earlier to Swift, we should go after the thug from the Waldorf. He no doubt has information we need."

Salleria shrugged. "He's the only lead we've got." she commented, idly walking behind Janeri.

"And I wasn't followed. I made sure of that." She claimed. "Where is the 'key' to this artifact, anyway? Steel would most probably track your home down and ransack it so..."

She pinched the spot between her eyes, closing them. "Please tell me that you didn't bring it along with you to Manehatten"

@,

"I would not be so foolish as to keep the key with me. The key is safely hidden away near my home in Canterlot. That would be no deterrent for Steel, though. Even if it is close to the princesses, he would still be able to find it. The location of the key is a secret I will take to my grave if need be."

"Thank the gods" Salleria mumbled. "How sure are you that the key can never be found?" She asked. "Do you keep it in a safe, bury it underground? Metal detectors are a thing now, if you don't know."

She shook her head. "Is there a reason why you haven't just handed the key over to your princess?"

@,

"Why should I tell you exactly where the key is? Rest assured, Steel would have to tear down half of Canterlot to find it if I did not tell him. I have not simply given the key to the princesses because I frankly don't trust them. Celestia is ineffective at fighting real threats, and Luna can be reckless and self destructive."

Salleria nodded. "I can see reason behind your decision. They were helpless against Chrysalis. I will not question further." she finished. "Though, with the amount of business set in Manehatten, Steel could very well tear down half of canterlot."

"Salleria brings up a valid concern. We have only your word that this "Midnight Blue" is trustworthy. Finding someplace safe is of paramount importance if I am to remain uncaptured and you to remain alive. We cannot spend much more time here; Steel may already have his thugs the sewers.

@@crispy fries,

Midnight continued to lead the way despite his slight annoyance at the question of Midnight's viability. "I trust her with my life if that means anything to you. Other than that, she has no need to work for steel. There is nothing he can offer or threaten that would put her under his hoof. I suppose that doesn't really prove anything, you'll see why if you make a good impression, but even if you don't she wont rat us out."

"Speaking of Chrysalis, what would you think of changelings if you knew she wasn't the only queen? And that the other hives didn't agree with her actions?"

Salleria grimaced. "Changelings. Disgusting, deceitful creatures, but useful nonetheless. Your contact, if willing, can be vital in our efforts to track down the artifact."

She stiffened at the mention of 'other hives'. "You mean to imply that this changeling is from another hive?"

Swift turned to the zebra. "I'm glad to hear you have such an open and inquisitive mind."

@,

"You on the other hoof," he said turning to the griffon, "First, I could say the same about griffons. Second, I didn't mean to imply that my contact was a changeling. And third, I wouldn't trust a changeling from Chrysalis for the moment."

He turned back ahead and came across a ladder. "We're here." He turned to the right to illuminate a partially obscured side tunnel which ended in another ladder. "This exits to the back alley of the Hay building. My key will get us in as I currently reside here." He began climbing the ladder before turning back towards the group. "Shall we?"

Swift didn't look back as he ascended the ladder. "I've listened to a few stories myself, I found that Novel Tale's latest book had a bit on changelings that was pretty oddly specific given it came out before the invasion. Some think he may be a changeling of a different hive."

Swift lifted the sewer cover a bit and peaked out. seeing that the coast was clear he climbed out and beckoned for the others to follow. "Do hurry you two, don't know how long our good fortune will last."

Salleria gave herself a small smile. 'I'm glad you hate me' she thought.

Salleria walked up the ladder after Janeri. "Maybe he's a changeling. Who knows?" She joked, albeit her words lacking any sort of emotional tone.

As they emerged from the alley, Salleria brushed herself off. Never again.

"Quite interesting indeed." Janeri said as he climbed out of the manhole with Swift, checking behind him for anypony suspicious.

"So, just why do you bring changelings up? I doubt it is simply to impart us with a bit of extra knowledge, grateful as I am for it."

"It suffices me to say, there is a good reason for my asking." Swift retrieved a unmarked key from his back and opened the back door, opening to reveal a well lit hallway. "Stay close to me."

He walked with purpose to the end of the hallway, which opened into an empty lobby. A board receptionist perked up upon seeing Swift enter. "Hello again Swift, you smell awful."

"I hadn't noticed, I have a zebra here to see Midnight Blue with me, after we've washed up of course."

The receptionist looked a bit unsure. "You sure she'd take it well? And what about the griffon?"

"The griffon wont be meeting Midnight, for somewhat obvious reasons. But the zebra has shown interest, and we really do need her help."

The receptionist sighed. "I'll let her know, your lucky she's on such good terms with your parent."

Swift left the desk and turned towards the group. "Things are looking up at least, Let's head up to my room so we can all get cleaned up a bit." He moved to another doorway which revealed a set of stairs. "After you, 2nd floor. 2113 is the room number."

"Is Salleria to simply wait down in the lobby?" he asked Swift.

Swift looked surprised, "Oh? I guess I wasn't clear but she was to come up with us if she didn't follow us already." He moved passed the zebra and opened the door with another key. "Come on in you two, it's not much but it's safe. And it has a shower, you two can decide who gets it first."

The room was pretty simple and empty, clearly a temporary dwelling, but it had a decent amount of space despite having no windows.

Salleria walked into the apartment. "I hope you don't mind if I take that shower first." She said, walking into the bathroom and closing the door.

'There better be a good reason the contacts doesn't wish to see me' she muttered, setting her headpiece next to the sink and turning on the showers. 'I'm no jeopardising the mission just because of some changeling's or pony's xenophobia.'

Swift waited until the griffon was fully inside the bathroom. "Don't worry, you'll meet her soon enough. And even if she doesn't know she can still be a tremendous help in us finding out."

In a blatant use of magic Swift cast a soundproofing charm on the bathroom door so that the griffon would not hear anything happening in the room. Turning back to the zebra, "Before you start to panic... huh, I thought this explanation would go easier. Oh!" will a roll of green fire across his body swift revealed himself to be a changeling, but unlike the changelings that attacked Canterlot his eyes and back were a light gold in color, like sand. "Tada. Yes, I've been a changeling the whole time." All he could think to himself was something along the lines of 'please don't panic.'

Swift nodded as he switched the mini crossbow in his bag with a silenced pistol. "There are certainly more than you'd think, the biggest benefit we'll receive is having a plenitude of eyes and ears throughout the city to find the one we're after." Swift certainly had a decent supply of knives though he didn't have many guns from what could be seen in his closet.
