gaming Farcry Primal: Arrowed

So I'm not disputing that early man didn't use bows for fighting each other as much as they did for hunting, but does anypony besides me find the amount of arrows used and the skill of archery seen in Farcray Primal to be a bit hard to believe?

I'm not saying "cavemen were stupid" but these guys nock, draw, and loose more like human bolt action rifles and the sheer amount of arrows flying seems only comparatively lesser than bullets were in the previous Farcry games because of lack of a "full auto" function on a bow.

It just seems to me that this doesn't feel as much like the uncertain, clumsy, unrefined dawn of ranged weaponry as much as it does a copy paste job.

I haven't seen much of the game yet but I have a friend who made a point: One of Far Cry's strong points is its gunplay, particularly after FC4. Primal is taking that out and it sounds to me like they're limiting your options or focusing too much on hunting or something.

I think I'll just stay away from Primal until further notice. :P

No my point is that the bow feels too much like a gun, that they didn't remove that aspect enough. Obviously they couldn't give you real guns in this game, and your options aren't "limited" to hunting. Your options are in service to survival. I mean, this is the dawn of man Discord, what did expect? Agriculture of any kind was the bleeding edge of technological development back then. The time period doesn't allow for car chases, zip lines, high stakes poker games, or gyrocopter grenade launchers.

But the Farcry elements of stealth, silent kills, trippy drug visions, and animal husbandry are still there. Hell in this game they've been advanced where you can now tame wild beasts.

Welcome to video games. I put my money on them having discussed this very thing (or something quite similar) at some point during the design process, however it was decided to forgo the realism route in order to keep things 'fun' for most players. Either way Im impressed by how much research and effort they put in to creating a proper recreation of ancient man, including the languages spoken and the type of technology and culture they had.

Still, sometimes you need to sacrifice realism for the sake of gameplay.
