" No one would have believed, in the last years few years, that Equine affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space. No one could have dreamed that we were being scrutinized, as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. Few ponies even considered the possibility of life on other planets and yet, across the gulf of space, minds immeasurably superior to ours regarded our planet with envious eyes, and slowly and surely, they drew their plans against us. The War of the Worlds would soon begin." -Unnamed Journalist.

It started, as with any tale, on a normal Autumn day in the small village of Ponyville. The inhabitants went to and fro, living their daily lives as they had every day since, secure and happy. The sun was setting and a gentle breeze was sweeping the town. The smells of bakeries and sweets filled the air as many ponies went out to get food from the local shops. The bright red rays of the sun lit up buildings as it set on one side of the sky, and glittering stars lit up the other.Among these celestial bodies lie a red dot, the planet Mars.It was just another day ending for everypony.

Millions of miles into space, on the cold red planet of Mars, many astronomers saw what could only be described as extraordinary. Bright green flashes from the planets surface, and expanding clouds of gas hurtling through space. It had been like this for the past 10 nights, a bright green flash from Mars, and a mystical green trail spewing from it. A beautiful, but somehow disturbing sight. Many, including the Princess of the land, simply waved it off as volcanic activity on the surface. How little they knew what was approaching them, and it's intentions.

Gale smiled as she flew in the sky. She enjoyed feeling the cold air against her scales and gazing out into the horizon. She was basically a wanderer ever since she had left her home, but knew that her curiosity wouldn't be sated unless she began to learn more about the world around her. The dragoness had heard rumors of volcanic activity on Mars, but paid no mind to it. How could anything so far possibly effect her.

Kyubi sighed as she sat at a local cafe in Ponyville. She didn't really have that much time to relax due to her line of work, but figured that taking a break today wouldn't hurt. While her eyes may give the appearance of blindness, the bat pony knew more about her surroundings than most. Of course, there were times where she wished she did have her sight, but those were few and far between.

The ending day was calm. The breeze was nice, the weather cool. Sounds of laughter filled the air of the small town. The sun was nearly swallowed by the horizon, with night slowly overtaking the land. Overhead, a small meteor shower was occurring, a beautiful sight seen every few weeks in the town. Though, to a keen observer, one might have noticed that one of these brief flashes of light in the sky, was green in color, and did not simply dissipate like the others.

In Canterlot, a local astronomer was shocked. What he had seen was no meteor, but rather, what looked like a cylinder. He backed away from his telescope, and took a deep breath. He had to report this. With a gallop, he stormed off to the palace of Celestia, with news that would change the world. But, by the time anything could be done, it would be too late.

Dusk Waltz smiled to himself as he enjoyed a small walk through Ponyville square. Being the heir to one of Equestria's biggest record labels was quite taxing, along with his... night job, so he figured a day trip into the quiet rural village was a good idea.

He found himself a café and sat down at an outside table, with a waitress pegasus soon appearing to take his order.

A coffee. Milk, two sugars, decaf. And a straw sandwich. The usual.

He'd already had a coffee for his breakfast, having more caffeine now would be a bad idea.

Kyubi was brought out of her thoughts when she heard Dusk order and a slight smirk came to her muzzle. "I didn't think any pony would order coffee so late into the day." She said. "Granted, that's just me. The bat pony then realized something and blushed. "Oh, My name is Kyubi, by the way. Who are you?"

Gale watched the sky in amazement. She had only seen a few meteor showers in her life, but none like this. Something about it seemed off, though. She had noticed a bit of green light heading towards the ground and was a bit wary of it. "It's probably nothing." She thought to herself, before heading towards the ground. She had grown tired from her night flight and needed a rest.

(edited)

It was now night, the sun having set in its proper place. The meteor shower continued, as it was supposed too. Though, the green star had not simply disappeared. It fell at alarming speed, silent and barely noticeable to the average pony. It passed silently over the town of Ponyville, only a hissing sound marking its decent. The cylinder landed several kilometers outside the town, in a unoccupied clearing. Very few saw the falling star, and few of those that did took heed of what they had seen.

It was a different scene in Canterlot. The town was lively, the royal palace rife with activity and shouting. A contingent of soldiers had been gathered, and was now marching to Ponyville to investigate the falling star. It would take them some time to arrive, and none had any idea what they would soon face. This would be the last peaceful night for Ponyville.

Dusk looked up and turned to the batpony mare sitting near him. She seemed a bit flustered, now that she had his attention.

"I just seem to have a taste for it," he answered politely, smiling back at her, "Dusk Waltz. It's a pleasure, miss Kyubi."

He enjoyed a nice chat with her, whiling away the hours until night came, and he looked up to see the meteor shower.

"Beautiful, is it not?"

Eventually, Gale came to a stop in a moderately sized cove and looked around, making sure that nothing was in the area that could potentially bring her harm. Call it instinct, but she could tell that something wasn't right. The dragoness then curled into a ball under a stone outcropping and fell asleep.

"If I get my sight back, it would be one of the first things that I would love to see." The bat pony didn't really mind if anypony knew she was blind. It was her hurdle to overcome, and she had done moe than just that. She flew over it thanks to her enhanced senses.

"Thank you very much! Feel free to stop by any time!" Ruby beamed at the unicorn stallion before her, who smiled back as he whisked the package away and left the stall, his hooves getting quieter and quieter as he disappeared into the night. Ruby yawned once, long and drawn out, deciding it best to simply call it a night. For the first time in quite a while, business had been very good, making quite a few hefty sales. The overflowing sack of bits beside her was proof enough of that.

She grinned, grabbing the sack and trying to lay it comfortably on her back. She took the sign down, put all of her goods away and snuffed out the candles. "What a good day indeed." She paused for a moment, before trotting out of the market space and heading for the crowd of houses to her west where she was staying.

The night dragged on, most ponies returning home from their days. Soon enough, it was morning. Though on this day, the morning silence was not broken by ponies, but by a mysterious calling.

"ALOO! ALOO!"

The cry echoed through the streets, repeated every few minutes. It was an unearthly sound, not of any terrestrial creature ponies knew of. The streets were soon full of activity, with ponies coming out to see what the commotion was. Rumors and talk ran wild. though soon it became clear what the sound was from. Several ponies had gone to investigate, and they returned with disturbing news.

"Everypony ! Come look ! North, there is a...a....a large cylinder ! Huge ! The top, it was unscrewing ! Like something was trying to get out !" He shouted, ponies looked around and then too him again, " Its a short trot north of the town ! You all need to see this !" He shouted again, pointing his hoof northward.

"ALOO!" The call rang again from the Cylinder's location. Though this time not as loud.

Some of the towns ponies listened, and began to follow were he had come from. It would not be long until a crowd formed at the crash site.

The next morning, the pegasus opened the window of the inn room he took lodging in for the night, curious about the sudden calling in the air.

He walked downstairs and exited, grabbing a coffee to go from the local café and joined the crowd of curious onlookers, the warm cup wrapped in the tips of his wings as he sipped.

Kyubi smiled slightly and shook her head. "It's ok. You didn't know." She said. The next morning, the bat pony found herself in a group of ponies and simply listened from a distance. She was unsure as to what would happen soon, but figured it would be best to keep her distance.

Ruby was not a morning pony, never was, never would be. That's why she took great joy in owning her own business; working hours that she decided on and no commitments that would force her out of bed at such an ungodly hour. There was however, commotion outside that woke her from her slumber. She rubbed her sore, tired eyes with a hoof and stumbled over to the window awkwardly. Ruby squinted outside, shielding her eyes from the sun with her foreleg and she could clearly see a large gathering in the town centre and some babble about noises coming from close by.

The pegasus yawned. "Meh." She meh'd. The bed was more inviting than some crazy talk of supernatural noises.

Gale stayed far above the ground, not really wanting to get to close to the cylinder. The noise echoing through the air was also a bit annoying and the fact that it had possibly come down the night before didn't really help at all. There was also the matter of the ponies starting to congregate around the strange device.

At this point, the town was mostly quiet. Many ponies had gone to see what this cylinder was. Though many had also decided to stay, brushing it off as another of the crazy things that happened in the town from time to time. Though, something seemed off in the town. Royal scouts could be seen in the streets, going to and fro in their golden armor. When ponies approached them, they simply told them to go inside and stay indoors, on Princess Twilight's orders. If one were to look at them, they almost seemed scared. From street to street they went, clearing ponies and scribbling notes down into journals. Something was very wrong...

Back at the crash site, the cylinder lid was still unscrewing. The metal object was huge, 30 yards across and dug straight into the ground. The top part of it was unscrewing, and as it did, the crowd of ponies got closer and closer. Suddenly, the lid fell off. There was silence as nothing happened for a full minute, and then, out of the darkness of the cylinder, a mechanical arm appeared over the rim. It held a large metal box with a lens on it, looking almost like the camera photographers used. The box moved as if it was surveying the area, even looking up Gale, before looking back down. Several ponies approached the mechanical arm, holding a white flag, hoping to communicate. Behind the mechanical arm holding the box, something else could be seen rising out of the pit.

"ALOO!" The cry echoed through the air, louder than any time before, and this time, in a deeper tone. The ponies around the pit became tense.

Gale winced as the sound seemed to reverberate in her head. She had noticed the camera looking up at her as well and didn't really know what to think of all of it. "I think now would be the point where we run." She thought to herself, flying higher into the air. As long that thing couldn't fly, she would be safe in the skies.

Dusk managed to squeeze into a front-row spot around the crater, to see the cylinder.

So this is what everypony's worked up about. This must have been what fell in the meteor shower last night?

He raised an eyebrow as the cylinder opened and... something emerged from it.

The noise from before sounded, and he shielded himself with his free wing. "So this is where that noise came from."

Kyubi was stunned by the noise for a moment, before the fear truly set in. The bat pony knew that if things went south, ponies would more than likely start to panic and she didn't want to be caught up in all of the chaos. "What is that thing?" She thought to herself.

As the crowd grew tense, the ponies with the flag renewed their approach, getting closer to the pit and shouting "We mean no harm !" At the camera. The camera didnt move, and instead seemed to focus in on them, its lens now glowing a soft green. Behind the camera however, another mechanical arm rose out of the pit. It carried a funnel, narrow and elongated. It rose above the camera, and pointed at the ponies holding the flag. the funnel began to glow a soft red from the inside.

"ULLA!" Roared from the pit, a loud, almost musical sound. It hurt to listen to, and could be heard from the town. It was then, that the funnel lit up, and a bright red beam of light struck the three ponies holding the flag. In a bright flash of white flame, the ponies were reduced to piles of ash, struck by an intense heat originating from the beam! There was a collective gasp from the crowd as they began to panic.Ponies turned and ran, pegasai attempted to take flight. And as they did, the funnel pointed towards the crowd, and fired.

@@1Bit,

Meanwhile in the town, the royal scouts went from door to door, including that of Ruby's. With a loud clang the scout knocked on the door.

"Open up ! Orders of the princess. We are commencing an evacuation of the town !" He shouted, his voice shaking, " All ponies are to meet at the town hall!"

"Luna Almighty!" Dusk exclaimed, dropping his coffee watching in terror as those poor ponies were reduced to nothing but white ash.

I need to get out of here. NOW.

He spread his wings and began flying off as fast as possible, back to his inn room and grabbing his saddlebag before sprinting back out the window.

While Ruby initially grumbled and tried to fall back to sleep again, she couldn't escape the faint screams and scuffling she could hear in the distance that made shivers run down her spine. With panic beginning to set in, she grabbed what she could from beside her bed and clumsily fell from her mattress in a rush to get to the door. Her hooves clammered against the wood as she practically flew down the stairs and raced out the door. She could see all sorts of stirring and chaos just out of town, deciding to run the very opposite way alongside the many other ponies still inside Ponyville.

Gale's eyes widened in horror as she watched the ponies, who attempted to make contact with the strange thing, were fried in an instant. She tried not to puke and joined the hoard of ponies who were basically retreating, not wanting to test her strength against something that could very well kill her in an instant. "We're dead. We're dead. We're all so dead." She thought, trying not to panic to much.
