Is anyone here a car pony? If so, what do you drive?

I restored a 1987 Chrysler 5th Ave Police Package (with blue velvet pillowtop interior! Comfy!), and drove that for about 7 years until the carburetor took a steaming shit at the same time as the distributor and I had a whopping 12$ to my name.

I fixed up TWO 1999 Ford Crown Victoria police interceptors, until my ex-wife blew the motor in one and fucked up the frame in the other.

I now drive a Nissan Leaf, since my commute to work is a whole 8 miles.

Honestly, I miss the hell out of those cop cars...

I'm driving a Kia Niro. It's a hybrid car, but only in the sense that it converts some of the fuel to electricity, so calling it a hybrid is a bit misleading. Despite that, I really like it.

I have a Lancia Lybra from 2001. with a 2.0 petrol engine generating 151 HP. It goes from 0 to 100 in ten seconds flat. Basically it's an italian Mercedes with some mad science put in it, and loooots of style. Just Google that interior. I wouldn't change it for anything in the whole wide world.

Hello Phanact! Glad to stumble upon your post, I also drive a Miata too, yay!

Oh? what generation of miata?

Oh yeah, I bet. Those police interceptors are pretty neat and cheap. But they're way too much car for me to handle. I need something small.

I'm currently driving a 2003 Chrysler Town and Country, but its days are numbered. Saving money for a newer car when it finally dies.

Yeah I had to save up for a new car, which was the Miata. The elantra is riddled with all sorts of issues so I can understand where you're coming from with that.

Oh man, I had one of the 1.6l non hybrid 4 door ones as a rental once. It was so much fun! I love small cars like that, so I bet you can enjoy it. And I suppose its technically a hybrid but yeah I guess if an electric motor doesn't drive the wheels, I wouldn't call it a hybrid.

Yeah, Lancias are all pretty neat in my opinion.

Thanks for asking, I drive a NA m-edition.

Oh nice. Those are really cool. One of my friends drives an M edition NA and he named his "Toothless" from how to train your dragon or whatever.

I've guess that both Toothless and Miata's are more in common because their both lovable!

Yep

I kinda wish my miata was more reliabile though... its had a lot of issues.

Yeah, age is showing for the NA's. I can't believe now that they're consider to be "classics" due to debuting over 25 years ago.

Yeah that annoys me. I don't consider it an antique but you could get antique plates for it. No thanks, those plates are ugly

I drive a 2007 Saturn Ion sedan with a DOHC 4-cylinder, power steering, but no overdrive.

I'd like my next car to be AWD, like a Subaru WRX Sti or a Lancer EVO X.

Do you have the one with the weird suicide doors? Those are cool. My Elantra doesn't have overdrive either. Basically all that overdrive is, is a gear ratio where the output from the transmission is less than or equal to one. Its nothing special. Its just a significantly underpowered gear for cruising, but car manufacturers will make it sound super fancy.

I really would love a WRX but they're so expensive new!

@@Phanact,

Nope, just the standard. I do not like front-wheel drive cars. My mom has a 2005 Volvo XC70 Cross Country with a 5-cylinder engine in it. It produces about 300hp, and it's AWD. For me, it's either FR, MR or AWD. I don't know how long I'll have to stick with FF...

For basically regular every day driving, FF is perfectly fine for most people.

But, FR is way more fun, at least going from the Elantra to the Miata it was.

See, but hit the gas hard on an FF on a rainy day and you get spin and lag. Plus, it's kinda like pokemon where if a pokemon uses hyperbeam it has to recharge. So slamming the gas hard on a rainy day, just causes tire-spin to the point where the computer just tells the engine to close the throttle...

That's why AWD or FR is my choice.

I did actually have a dream project in mind with my ion...

I mean the same would happen on RWD in that instance. That's why you have to ease on the throttle.

Yeah, FR would be more dangerous because you could spin...

But want to know about my dream project with my Saturn Ion?

Go on...

I mean unless its an AWD conversion I don't recommend it

An electric motor does drive the wheels (sometimes). But the electricity is generated from the fuel (usually at the same time that the combustion engine drives the wheels). So it is only a hybrid if we use an iffy definition of what a hybrid is. Still, it have regenerative breaking, so that's a benefit of having it being partly powered by electricity.

It is.

Gonna get a AWD conversion and swap out that 4-cylinder for either an LSX or a 2JZ. I could even go with an RB series (which is made famous by Nissan's Skyline R34)

I'll then turbocharge (probably go twin), cold air intake, LSD, suspension upgrade, brakes, triple-plate clutch with upgraded transmission.

Yeah but ''hybrid'' is a word that is just thrown around the car world nowadays, so some hybrid systems do and some don't drive the wheels. Its weird ...

I mean that just seems kinda big for an ion... I'd rather get a different car to do it on. Maybe something that's older so the bay can be expanded and something that comes with RWD from the factory.

Yeah...it's why I'm probably just gonna settle for a WRX Sti or an EVO X, which both cars have a lot of potential when it comes to tuning them.
