Vermilion looked at the entrance. She thought she'd seen a trace of black cloak through the grates, but she still wasn't sure. Better safe than sorry, she decided.

 

In much the same fashion, she kicked the grate out of the vent. As the guard turned to look at it, she leapt out, running by him with a flick of her tail. Moving rapidly, she scrambled up the fence, nearing the top very quickly.

when the guards heard the alarm, three ran to where it was coming from, some ran outside, and others ran to check the rest of them

Doc stood up and said when he was done stitching up the leg, 

"Yes. I suggest you don't try anything dumb in a while so your leg can heal

A guard was walking by when he saw the pony look up, then he called for the other guards

Starry nodded and said,

"That's great, if it's not too much to ask, how did you two meet?"

 

Acrylic nodded to Doc and left Shadow's room, limping back to what was left of his cell.

 

"Oh, right, I destroyed it and about half of the prison, what am I going to do now?"

 

He walked inside the remnants of the walls that once made up his cell and flopped down on the surprisingly intact bed.

 

"What am I going to do?..."

"Well it's a pretty long story," said Hooligan with a smile, "before I became a guard I was on of the most troubled criminals here. One day I pissed off Red and she started beating me. We both found that her beating me was kinda fun. So we kept doing it for a while, I'd get in trouble and she'd beat me. One day the Princesses came for a surprise inspection. Red promised me a date if a behaved my self. I did, and well on thing led to another which led to the same place the next morning which led to Red being pregnant with twins. The next day I proposed and she said yes."

Redwood kissed Hooligan on the cheek and chuckled a bit at how fast things had gone. "Ah guess we both work pretty fast." It was admirable of Hooligan that he didn't run and hide at the news that she was pregnant, and he even went so far as to propose to her.

A few guards saw that the intruder was climbing over the fence and turned it on, and the unicorns ran outside the gate and got ready to shoot spells

Starry nodded and said as she started flipping through the book and stopped a spell that can change the color of a flash, 

"I have a twin, but I don't really know where he is exactly."

Vermilion froze. Slowly (she hadn't realized how her shoes helped with climbing) she moved up the fence, two hooves at a time.

 

Until the first bolt hit the fence beside her. One of her hooves fell loose, and Vermilion was thrown from the fence with a sharp crack. She tumbled, though she managed to land on her back. It hurt, but at least nothing immediately vital was broken. She let one of her rear hooves spasm before going still.

 

Through half-closed eyes, she watched a guard come up, levitating restraints. This was what she'd been waiting for, and she was prepared. One forehoof shot up, and she pulled herself up by the guard's covered horn. Spinning around, she shoved the doubtless surprised guard with her rear hooves and took off at a gallop.

 

This was her favorite part. She kept turning randomly to dodge magic bolts, weaving in a bizarrely unpredictable zigzag. She rounded a corned and waited for the guards to follow.

 

As soon as the first one ran by, she leapt onto his back. From there, she jumped to one of the molded fixtures on the wall. Hooves scrabbling, she climbed up onto the roof. A bolt of magic struck frighteningly close to her flank, burning the fur and releasing smoke that stank of chemicals. Vermilion got onto the roof and started forwards, searching for threats.

Shadow opened a portal to the roof, grabbed his scythe, two relics, and his helmet, then he walked through. He came in front of Vermillion and said as he pointed his scythe at her, 

"I suggest you get in a cell, and hand over all your stuff, even anything you stole."

 

Nightmare walked out of the warehouse with some papers, and writing tools

"Now, why would I do that?" Vermilion sneered. "Because I follow orders like a good little puppy-dog? No thanks." She rolled her eyes, giving them a look of scorn that would put a Canterlot noble to shame. "I'll just be getting out of your manes now," she spat, kicking off of the smooth surface of the roof and galloping around Shadow. As she ran, she dug one hoof  into her saddlebags, rummaging through them. She had to search the other one before she found what she was looking for.

 

Awkwardly, Vermilion pulled a camera out of her saddlebag and slung the strap around her neck. She turned her head slightly back to keep an eye on Shadow and Nightmare as she ran.

Shadow sighed and said as he made a barrier of shadows, 

"You do know that I run the prison."

He walked towards her debating which relic to use, they both were gathering dust.

Nightmare was walking towards her room to make a plan to get some answers when one of the silent guards ran up to her and handed a note of what happened while she was asleep. She read it and took off, tossing the stuff on her bed. She ran down the stair to see that the passage was closed off. She started removing the rubble, hoping that they weren't there

Vermilion jumped, wheeling about to face Shadow. Her gray eyes bored into his red ones for a fraction of a second as her hoof went to the camera around her neck. Twisting so that the curved mirror on the top faced Shadow, she closed her eyes.

 

With a crack, the flash went off. In the same instant, Vermilion darted forwards, slipping underneath Shadow's outstretched wing. The metal tore a small gash in her back, but she ignored it. Her silky black tail flicked one of Shadow's legs as she darted towards the other end of the roof. With Shadow still blinking spots out of his eyes, Vermilion jumped off of the roof, vaulted the fence with her forehooves, and tumbled gracelessly to the street below. She stumbled on stiff legs for half a second before taking off again. 

 

She winced at the tingling that still filled her from the electric fence as she struggled to keep from tripping over her own hooves. Smoke still coiled from the burned patch on her flank. Rest and relaxation were definitely in order, she decided. Just as soon as she made her escape.

Ivy was punching the rubble and the rocks as it seemed like forever. It felt strange for her as she expected to be dead tired by now, but instead, she didn't even have a scratch on the hooves. She looked at Missklang who was absorbed at firing a tiny beam from his horn, almost a needle-wide, at a small rock on the ground.

 

You do realize this rock is not even blocking the exit, right? 

 

She came closer and stepped at the small rock, crushing it into dust with no effort. Missklang made a small gasp of disbelief  and looked at Ivy with a frowning expression.

 

You were doing quite well without me. Besides, I can't help you with my current magic charge. I wasted it on you, so you know. So, way to ruin my fun you party pooper.

 

He dramatically turned around and started to beam another useless rock with an expression that suggested that the fate of the universe depended on it. Ivy rolled her eyes and started beating the rocks with a bit more fury than before. Somehow, it was extremely satisfying to see the seemingly indestructible rocks turn into sand under her hooves with little effort. The immense power was such a nice thing. Deep inside, she felt the desire to destroy everything in her path. To prove she is the strongest. To be feared. Distracted by her thoughts about her lifting a mountain, she punched a dark-looking rock and to her surprise, it made an opening through which she saw Nightmare Moon staring right back at her. Ivy shouted and jumped in surprise backward, right were Missklang stood and both fell on the ground.

After Shadow could see again, he smiled and took off after her, leaving his scythe behind on the roof, he hadn't had a good chase in awhile, he turned the helmet on and spotted her and put more speed into flying

Nightmare moved out of the way of the rock and tossed it to the side and said as she made more of an opening, 

"I'm glad that you're not crushed, and why were you not in your cell?"

Vermilion ran over her options. The rooftops were off, she was too injured to run forever, and she doubted hiding behind something would fool Shadow. She could hear the metallic sound of his wings beating behind her. Her eyes shot over every surface in the small street, looking for an avenue of escape, until she found it.

 

Letting all the air flow out of her lungs, Vermilion vanished into the small space between two buildings. Shadow was a fair bit bigger than she was, and if she could get far enough into the narrow space, she could simply wait or think of a better plan while Shadow was stuck. Carefully, she slipped her saddlebags off as she moved, allowing her to breathe a little easier even while she was surronded by plaster and bricks.

Missklang passed his small beam on the rest of the rock, disintegrating them entirely. Ivy gasped.

 

You can do THAT? Why didn't you do it since the beginning? 

 

I couldn't. That's why I was beaming the rock earlier. I wanted to find the frequency of those rock's natural vibration. After that, I was able to do that without much effort. I would do it before, but you were constantly annoying me about me not helping so it took all this time.  Great job. You have only yourself to blame.

 

Ivy looked away, frustrated. Missklang looked at Nightmare.

 

Well, I am not in my cell because I was stuck under here obviously. But I'm glad somepony cares about.

 

He walked through the gap. 

 

I suppose this one will be staying with me in my cell. We don't want her to die, do we? She needs to be close to me otherwise, her soul won't receive enough magical energy in order to survive. That's why I stayed down. She fell unconscious due to lack of magic her soul needed, and I was too exhausted to pull her all the way from here till my cell.

Shadow opened a portal on both sides and started heading towards her. He grabbed her and said,

"Why don't you cut this chase out. I just want to ask ya questions and get what ya took.

 

@@Missklang,

Nightmare looked at Ivy and said as she turned to missklang, 

"Glad to see both of you are alright, and that'll be fine that Ivy stays with you."

Then she started heading back

"Yes, questions," Vermilion hissed. "Because I totally trust the people I steal from. After all, they have absolutely no reason to hold any grudges against me! Genius!" She rolled her eyes. "I'll talk, but I'm staying here. I don't need to be in a cell, that would just be boring."

 

She shook herself, dropping her saddlebags loosely over her shoulders with a hoof. "So, first question? I might not answer, you know. I really don't need to."

Ivy followed Missklang through the hallways into his cell while looking around. Once arrived, she jumped on the second bed which looked most new and started looking around. Her sight caught the guard that was staring back at her. She turned to Missklang.

 

What's up with.. er...the guard?

 

Oh, Rys? Nothing. That's what she does all the time. Don't try talking, she is a mare of no-words-at-all. 

 

But it's creepy that she stares at me like that through the glass door!

 

Missklang smirked.

 

Oh, don't worry. It's the less creepy thing she can do.

 

Rys twitched her ear in slight annoyance.

 

Anyway, it's still a prison. So, that's probably normal.

 

Ivy looked at the guard who's name was Rys. How did Missklang know she was a mare? 

 

But, I'm not a prisoner! I'm a doctor! 

 

Well, as I said before, you go too far from me now, you die for good. Until then, you and I are bound to go everywhere together. Well, except the restroom of course. Not that you or I need to go there anyway. That's good. Otherwise it would be awkward no?

 

Ha ha ha, veeery funny. 

 

Ivy laid on her bed. That's was not what she imagined her future life be like...

Shadow smiled as he pulled a relic out of a portal and said as a tentacle of shadow grabbed the bag and lifted it over her,

"Ya kinda will. Why did you break into prison? What did you steal and why did you steal it 

 

Starry left the couple and headed to the cells, while reading her book

Vermilion jumped up and pounced on her bags, dragging them back down with moderate effectiveness. "My reasons are my own," she said. "Will it suffice to say that you took something of mine, and I wanted it back?"

 

Interestingly, the unicorn used strictly her hooves to pull down her bag, not her magic. In fact, she hadn't used her magic once since entering the prison. It was strange.

Shadow laughed a little and said, "Now what would I have stolen without a good reason, the only thing that we have taken is prisoner stuff and stuff that an evil ruler or pony is using. so which are you, a prisoner or an evil pony."

He used the shadows as a blanket around the alley, plunging it into darkness

Vermilion flinched, bit inside, she was smiling. "Prisoner," she said. "My sentence was terminated. As you can see, maybe it shouldn't have been."

 

Pulling her saddlebags back on, she tried to walk out of the alley, her horn pointed forward as though she expected to push aside the darkness like that. One of her shoulders  brushed against the wall, guiding her in the darkness.

Shadow sat down, laughed and said as he turned the shadows into a portal, removing the walls, 

"Once a prisoner, always a prison, just different prison, you don't need a cell to be a prison. Now, what did we steal from you, and what is your name?"

He quietly moved toward the unicorn

(basically, it's like a void of emptiness that he makes with his portals)

"Vermilion," the unicorn said, slowly backing away from Shadow. Her dark-red horn was still pointed at him, its razor-sharp tip gleaming dully. "Why do you care? It won't help you in the slightest to know my name."

 

Vermilion continued crawling backwards. She still felt tired and sore from the electric fence, and she didn't think she could fight Shadow even with her magic. She was stuck.

Shadow walked up and said while moving a relic between his claws when it giving off a faint glow,

"Why don't you quit this little game of cat and mouse, and rest for a bit back at the prison, maybe it would help.I'm not a savage, isn't it nice for ponies to know your name? Name's Shadow Beast."

(The relic is the size of a coin, or a bit, and it's going over his claws)

Starry walk passed the cell while looking through her book, then stopped when she saw a guard fully cloaked watching a creature that kinda looked like Discord. She headed back and said with her mask covering her face and the book floating to the side of her, 

"Um, sorry to bother you, but do you know where an empty cell is
