One of Mercury's eyes opened. She stretched on her cot and yawned. Today's a big day, Mercury thought. Escape, legal activities, return by sundown.

Mercury ran a hoof over her mane in attempt to brush it out. With a sigh, she got out of bed. She walked towards the place she was pretty sure the entrance was. The gate loomed overhead. Mercury noted the guards on either side of the gate and walked away from it, along the fence. The fence was actually shorter than the gate; It made easier climbing. With a grunt, Mercury began climbing the fence, hooking her hooves into the wire links to progress. She ignored everything, focusing on getting higher.

Like with dresses, Redwood had never really been a big fan of shopping. This was special though, and she was more than happy to do it. Plus, it had been a long time since she had taken any time off.

Kurren$y watched from his seat as the world revolved around him. This was probably the lightest punishment he had received, odd for his heaviest offense.

"Must be done here. swaagg. See you later boss."

Kurren$y non-chalantly proceeded to head to the door, but stopped as he remembered something important.

Mercury grinned at the guard. She shifted ever so slightly to one side.

Her rear hooves hit the guard's stomach, and one of her forehooves slammed into the side of his head. Mercury rolled the guard off of her and ran to try again at a different point. This time, she put her thoughts into speed. Once she had a feel for the links, it was simplicity itself to flow up the fence, and she was out of reach almost before the guards had noticed her.

Hooligan smiled, "lead the way," he said happily. As Hooligan and Redwood walked through the prison towards the exit he couldn't believe how amazing the last few days had been. And now for the first time in years he was being aloud to leave the prison. And it was all thanks to Red.

Mercury's eyes widened as the fence started humming. Quickly, she shifted her hooves so that all four of her horseshoes were propped on the links. She sighed quietly as a faint tingle filled her body, the tingle of electricity moving. Moving electricity that, thankfully, didn't build up enough to injure her. I should still get moving, she thought.

Carefully, she lifted her right forehoof and left rear hoof off of the fence. When no shocks happened, she hooked them in the fence a few inches above with precision that could only come from a fear of being killed.

Moving slowly, Mercury scaled the rest of the fence. She was careful to only let her hooves contact the fence, and always two at a time. Once she was at the top, she simply jumped. Her muscles burned and she tingled from ears to tail, but she was out.

With a determined grunt, Mercury galloped towards the seedier neighborhoods below.

"Hmmmm"

Grunting through the pain was all Kurren$y could do while remaining silent. Despite the pain, he felt a tinge of monotony as applying pressure to his unhealed leg was the punishment he received from Shadow the first time. The exception being that this time there was no genuine fear instilled in Kurren$y, only mental anesthesia.

Oh, and you remember the red collar you gave me earlier? I kinda plocked it on Spellvamp when he attacked. That did something I hope. Would it still work? I mean they are thin, I can manage to lock this one too... But, you know... Possible artefact disagreement when both effects applied together and stuff...

@@reader8363,

One of Mercury's hooves slipped out from under her as she ran through an alley. She giggled as she corrected her stumble, leaping on top of a dumpster. Her mane and tail felt light; She was sure that the electricity had screwed up her mane to an extraordinary degree, but it didn't bother her. On the contrary, she thought, jumping from the dumpster to a rooftop, I rather like it this way. It's so fluffy.

She galloped over the sloping roofs, jumping from rooftop to rooftop. She turned almost completely around once she'd gone a certain distance, and jumped rooftops to get to the nicer parts of the city. What she was looking for was definitely not a dumpster. She'd seen enough of those.

Once more ponies started filling the streets, Mercury slipped to the ground. She lost herself among the crowds of the city. A discount store provided a map; Mercury stopped to check it occasionally as she made her way to her destination.

Mercury trotted into the place she'd taken such trouble to get to.

It was a library, filled with majestic columns and shelves upon shelves of books.

Mercury waved at the librarian as she walked past, following signs to different sections, perusing books, and occasionally flipping through one's index. In the end, she'd narrowed her search down to four books. Anatomy of Unicorns, Curses: Make or Break, History and Science of Umbramancy, and Runecraft for Beginners.

She balanced the books on her back as she searched for a space to sit. Eventually, Mercury found a satisfactory beanbag chair and sat down to read, ignorant of the commotion outside.

"Yes," Mercury replied, "but there aren't the kind of books I'm looking for there. It's simple pursuit of knowledge, sir. After all, do you really think Darky would put books on umbramancy and curses in his prison?"

She rolled over and turned around lazily in her beanbag chair, resting her chin on her hooves. The picture of relaxation, for sure. Yet, through half-closed eyes, Mercury looked up the sharpened tip of her horn. She definitely wasn't going back without what she was looking for, all of it. Though she wouldn't give up her life, she decided. That would be pointless.

Well, she went slack for three seconds. It was something, okay?

Then, it was chaos. Her horseshoes blurred, neatly striking jaws and causing guards to crumple around her. When she propelled her back hooves into the final standing guard, Mercury realized that quite a crowd had gathered.
