spoiler Are video game expanded universes a good idea?

I know this will never happen, but I don't care, games need to be fun again. Movies have done it with super heroes and video game characters are almost super heroes in many ways. After beating Uncharted 4, I said

"We need Nate Drake and Lara Croft together after the events of Uncharted 4."

Might sound dumb to you, but it would be an amazing idea if publishing corporations weren't so greedy. I have no doubt in my mind employees at Naughty Dog or Crystal Dynamics, considered bringing the two characters together in some form or another. As of now there only exist fan movies and forum threads.

Uncharted is violent, but has a dark satire side to it. Nathan Drake just casually killing people like it ain't no thing. Lara in Tomb Raider does it out of survival and doesn't make fun of it. It would be the perfect foil to bring these two together as friendly rivals( I will never ship these two, Nate has Elena and Lara isn't pursuing love in her life now)

I already have ideas going on right now. Like Nathan Drakes ever since his teen years always knew about the famous Croft family and Sully would have told him he had done "work" for Richard Croft in his prime years. Lara currently now is barely 25 after Rise... Nate at the end of Uncharted 4's story(not the epilogue) is in his mid 30s. I think  it would be a great character dynamic if these two were to interact. Have them save each other's lives back and forth. Have Nate help Lara fight off Trinity. Just so much possibilities.

Not just for TR and Uncharted, it could be for anything.

Perhaps they should focus on providing consistent and interesting gameplay before going so far in writing. So much money saved from watching videos rather than playing. It's the always the same : new game, new gameplay promises, hype, actual gameplay is very repetitive, wait for new game, repeat.

Better stories, crossed universes, why not ? But as long as watching videos and reading wikis gets you 90% of the game content, you might as well write a book.

I would want the combined gameplay of TR's survival mechanics with Uncharted's set pieces.

Actually there is this youtube channel I watch called Extra Credits  who does analytical videos on game designs.

I can't quite think of the exact video, they come up with this idea of a game that connects mobile gaming with AAA gaming.

See there would be the person who plays the main game, the one that's on the console or on the computer. However these people would have friends and family members who are more casual people playing mobile games that are integrated WITH the main game. Think about a game like Candy Crush or Farmville. The person who prefers that kind of game racks up these arbitrary scores for just the satisfaction of making their numbers bigger and harvesting more supplies. Now imagine if the person who did that could actually send those supplies and gold and whatnot into your AAA game? Not everyone is going to want to play an action adventure type game. but people could work together in this fashion by integrating the more casual types of games into the more hardcore varieties. You could be playing while someone you know is harvesting something valuable for you to give you an edge. They get the fun of casual gameplay and they get too play your game with you without having to learn the same skills required for AAA gaming. Mobile gaming is huge, and a lot of people are into it that aren't the usual gamer. Having an integration like this would bridge the gap between the two worlds without sacrificing their love for the casual style or AAA style of gameplay.

I thought it was a really interesting concept.
