gaming Official fighting/brawling game thread!

Recommended Posts

A thread to discuss everything we know and love about fighting games, or brawlers if you use that term too. (I've heard some games called both so let's not fight about the distinction between the two)

-----

Fighting games I have and love:

Bloody Roar 3

Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution

Soul Calibur II

Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus

Super Smash Bros Melee

Super Smash Bros Brawl

Marvel vs Capcom 2

Naruto: Clash of Ninja 1 and 2

Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 (This is technically my brother's but it's my PS3 lol)

Dragon Ball Z: Raging Blast 2 (Brother)

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi (Brother)

Castlevania Judgment

Fighting games I've owned or played in the past but also love:

Super Street Fighter IV (Played at cousin's house)

Soul Calibur IV (Played at cousin's house)

Dragon Ball Z Budokai (Rented)

Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 2 (Played at cousin's house)

Bloody Roar 2 (Played at babysitter's house and also rented)

Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (Rented)

Digimon Rumble Arena (Previously owned)

Super Smash Bros (Previously owned)

Clay Fighter 64 (Rented)

Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Played at cousin's house)

Tekken 3 (Previously owned)

-----

To me, I don't care if a fighting game is as technical as Street Fighter and Guilty Gear or as simple as Super Smash Bros and the Naruto games, I love them all for what they are.

I really wanna play the BlazBlue games too but until I get a job I can't do that and it sucks. I also need to get a second PS3 controller so I can play with people offline too though, especially when I get the BlazBlue and Soul Calibur games.

-----

I'm not overly fond of character lists that aren't at least 15+ characters big (point in case: Bloody Roar 3's roster is too small imo but that game in general doesn't have enough features. Primal Fury was a much better game)

I mean, I can live with small rosters, they just aren't nearly as fun especially since I'm the type who hits "random" when I choose characters so I don't have to worry about overusing certain characters over others and can get good with pretty much all of them.

-----

Also, I'm a Brawl > Melee type person. As far as fighting games go, Melee and Brawl are both good enough for me. I'm not competitive player in any fighting game so I don't care about specifics that only competitive players know or care about. Plus as far as video games in general go, Brawl has maaaany more features to it, particularly Subspace Emissary, that make it better than Melee. I really hope in the next Super Smash Bros (I think it's gonna be either on Wii-U or 3DS, I don't remember all the rumors and news I've heard) has something similar to SSE because that was simply amazing execution.

:( Well I needed to call it something besides "Raronoopa's fighting game ramble thread"

And I didn't know it needed mod approval to be called official. O.o

I figured it was okay since there wasn't any other thread like this...<.<

Well whatever, they can change it if they need to.

:( I haven't played Tekken since my Tekken 3 got too scratched up to play and I had to throw it out. I've wanted to get Tekken 5 or 6 for years.

Also, is there any relation to Yoshimitsu in Soul Calibur and Yoshimitsu in Tekken? They seem oddly similar.

Lets get some Tekken discussion up in here yo. Best fighting series ever, I reckon, Yoshimitsu for life.

I've been with Tekken since the first game, and I own a copy of every Tekken-related game to come out since! No disrespect to Yoshimitsu (I've got a pretty good record with him), but Jin Kazama all the way!

I've got an idea! No..... No, wait; it's just a concussion....

No way man, Paul totally kicks that guys ass! Remember that kickin' rad fire punch thing he had? Number 4 was awesome... Steve was awesome. But Jin, yeah Jin was alright, fairly good guy, nothing special. I like Henechi, or whatever his name was, too.

Brawl!

I bet a million Ponyville currency that no one can beat me while playing as Toon Link B)

Bits is the currency of Ponyville. :D

Also, my Lucario = godly but I hate playing online because the lag messes with my game. I hate people who get used to the lag and brag about it because the lag is the very thing that makes me suck at online Brawl.

I recall being particularly good with Heihachi and Eddy in Tekken 3.

I had a newfound respect for Heihachi after Tekken 6. I mean, the guy stopped bullets with his forehead!

But if there was one Tekken character I wanted to see in another game, it'd have to be Dr. Boskonovich, just because his moves were so weird and funny!

I've been playing Smash Bros. since the first game on the N-64, so any of the veteran characters are a given. Also pretty awesome with Metaknight and Lucario.

Also, I'm glad Tekken decided to bring Eddy back as a playable character. They sort of made him obscure for a few games...

Oh yeah, Vitamin B! I loved that farting bear in the red t-shirt, from 4. He was so awesome. And that farting lizard... thing from, ah, 2?

Talking of Gon? He was brought into Tekken 3 as an unlockable character. He was completely broken because only low attacks would hit him. lol

I'm also starting to get better with Ganon! I know that he sucks and all, but I'm awesome with Captain Falcon and he's a rip-off of him so yeah, they are pretty similar :3

At least Ganon is a little more original in Brawl than in Melee where he was just a slow copy of Falcon. He's still a copy in Brawl but his animations are a little more original at least.

Seriously, Ganon deserves better than just a copy of a different character. He's the king of darkness, he should be using that sword he uses for a taunt! :D

Rings a bell. I think he was orange, legendary character... anyone seen Sonys new SSB clone? Any opinions, thoughts anything?

Yeah, sounds like Gon to me.

I heard about it but if they've put up any videos of it I haven't seen them yet. I'm looking forward to it as a fighting game fan and also as a Super Smash Bros fan but I gotta wonder how they'll balance things out considering some of Sony's characters are cartoony (Sly, Ratchet, Jak) while others are realistic and ready for gore-mania (Kratos, Drake)

Maybe they'll take blood and gore out completely but keep their moves and such. Super Smash Bros proves you can throw multiple artstyles into one game. xD

Oh I loved Solid Snake in Brawl, kickass character, so yeah, if they can do it Sony can do it. One feature that concerns me is that I've heard KOs are done by special attack ONLY. If thats true, then thats a real shame.

Special Attack only, eh? I suppose that depends on how difficult it is to pull of special attacks. If it's like SSB where you just tilt the joystick and hit the B button then that won't really be much of a problem but if it's more complicated it'll possibly outbalance the game.

Like...will they be put in a "Finish Him" state when they hit low health but gain some back if they aren't finished or will they just be able to keep tanking as long as they don't get hit with a special attack?

Super Smash Bros Melee is the best!

I also love Naruto Ninja Storm and Soul Calibur but not as much, but I hate almost everything else on there and the communities that play them.

Have you considered making a poll to see whats everyone's favorite?

There's far too many options to put into the poll so I didn't even bother. Besides, more than likely the winners will be Super Smash Bros or Street Fighter anyway. lol

Apart from Super Smash Bros Melee, I was never really into fighting games, except recently. I could never figure out the combos. :(

I played Tekken... 5 I think, a fair amount but to be honest I either mashed one, or all the buttons.

I also own Mortal Kombat deception, which I played quite a lot. I did start to learn combos there, but I never got far in it.

I am really looking forward to MLP:Fighting is magic, though!

:D Fighting is Magic is gonna be AWESOME.

I just hope they don't run into the same problems Equestria Online did. Infighting ruins gaming development. :(

When trying to learn combos it's best to understand what each of the symbols mean and remember that they usually need to be pulled off in every quick succession. If you are confused about the symbols, look it up online or in the booklet of the game. Starting with simpler games like Soul Calibur or Bloody Roar will help too.

Fighting is magic CAN'T run into that kind of problems! That would shatter my heart! I want to play that game more than anything, at the moment.

I'll wait with the combo-learning till I can play a fighting game on my PC. It's not worth setting up my Tv and Gamecube or ps2.

Well FiM should have combos of various types, considering it's in the same format as Marvel vs Capcom, so you'll have your chance then. :D

I don't think most fighting games are on PC most of the time, it seems to be a console-focused genre.

Console-focused for a good reason, I think gamepad/joystick whateverit'scalled is a better control system for fighting games and not all PC-games have bought one, whereas console gamers usually get one with the console itself.

That reminds me, I have to buy a gamepad for my PC.
