Is the MLP fandom more fickle than most others?

I have been a fan since season 2. Since then I have noticed something. When I first joined and subsequently started looking things up I managed to find many who made videos on YouTube, from analysts to content creators etc.

 

However despite having been subscribed to quite a few, there are only a handful left, a number of them either just left without a word, some left due to personal issues, some due to not liking the show as much and quite a few other reasons.

 

In contrast, I have been subscribed to several gaming and movie channels before MLP:FIM even first aired. Sure some have left, but not near to what has happened to the many MLP channels I subscribed to.

 

Any idea why when it comes to MLP channels they at least to me seem very short lived and many just up and leave or get frustrated and quit in comparison to other kinds of fandoms?

From a few reviewers i heard, that they have a Job now and dont have the time anymore to work on Videos, since many cant live from Youtube.

 

Other than that, most of my favorite Mlp Channels are still there, i didnt noticed a big disappearance.

People move on for many reasons- lose interest, run out of ideas, etc

The amount of creators does appear to have shrunk, true, but I suspect that is mostly observational bias- I have seen others say there are still lots of cretors around, they just are not as visible, which makes sense- even if many of the old big name creators have moved on, people's content will still be compared to such- in any fandom, as time goes on it will get harder and harder to become one of the more prominent creators.

 

Oh yeah, and 'fickle' isnt the word to use for what you are describing- fickle is changing suddenly and without good reason, usually of loyalties/affections, and usually changing often. Fickle's not really a word that can be used to describe a fandom. Induvidual fans yes, maybe even a group of them, but not a fandom.

Movies and games will always be a relevant topic, since they are both mainstream topics. Especially movies, considering they are a thing for over a century. In that case, They will be with us for a long time

 

MLP is a pop culture phenomenon, which the biggest haydays are past now, because when this fandom started, it was a new and trendy thing. For alot of people that have started in S1 or S2 (BTW, also here since Season 2) alot of people since then have left and people just start to lose interest after awhile. This is the case in almost all fandoms and not just exclusive to the brony fandom.

Thing is, movies and games are a broad genre that people may never run out of material for, but as popular as this show is there only so much someone to get out of it before it becomes stale. Plus, this show's been going long enough that people who talked about it during season 1 might now have a job to worry about, or a family, or need to focus on their schooling maybe, or even just new interests pop up.

 

Like for example, Mando still makes Pony songs on occasion, but now he's branched out to things like Undertale or Overwatch.

Such as? A lot of the good fandoms stand the test of time, I think. I guess I was hoping that MLP would survive like the Pokemon fandom did but I suppose that was wishful thinking.

There are still as many, if not, more creators in the fandom as there was back in the early days. Look at it this way:

 

Way back when it was just exploding, what were Bronies? They were a group of weirdos that liked a cartoon. Big deal. But then, all of a sudden, someone said, "Hey, I can also make music."

 

Then the fandom went, "Wow, that's really cool."

 

Then somebody else said, "And I'm pretty good at drawing."

 

And the fandom went, "Wow, that's cool, too!"

 

And those artists got built up. They made more art, which inspired and attracted more artists, and so on. But then, some of the first few guys said, "I dunno, I kinda moved past all of this."

 

Why does it seem like all the animations, songs, remixes, fanfictions, and fanatic is slowing down? Because we keep looking for it where it has ceased to come from.

 

More people than ever make all of those things right now. They just don't get as much attention, because they're not famous. Back when the fandom was first a thing, it was new and interesting to see Brony artists. Now, they're everywhere.

 

Why? Well, riddle me this: what do you think of when you think of the Brony fandom? A portion of you might think of cringe compilations and dank memes. I think of artists. Because that, I think, is what the fandom was founded on. The appreciation of art tends to draw in artists.

 

Yeah, a lot of people quit. And sometimes for unfortunate circumstances. But oh well. The stuff they made is still out there, we can go back to it whenever we like.

That's not what i meant. The fandom WILL survive for a long time. But it will certainly not stay as relevant.

 

I can imagine that once FiM is over, alot of people will leave and that only the most hardcore fans will stay.
