Shanks 10,817 September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 The have a constitutional right to do it, but that dosen't change the fact that it is incredibly stupid. Colin Kapernick is a spoiled, selfish little shitstain that has no clue just how fortunate he really is. He claims that America is a racist white supremacist country when here he is a black man making how many millions of dollars a year playing football? And uh, who is president right now? Oh yeah a black man, granted he is the worst president America has ever had but hey at least they checked off that box right? He talks about police brutality and I am concerned about it too but then voices support for Black Lives Matter which is a terrorist organization. 2 Rarity Get's Cockroaches
Guest September 9, 2016 Share September 9, 2016 It is a right, and honestly I always felt when people get bent out of shape for not pledging your loyalty to your country it's insane. It's hard to pledge BLIND loyalty to a country with a ton of problems, many people being affected by said problems that are expected to pledge. That being said: The have a constitutional right to do it, but that dosen't change the fact that it is incredibly stupid. I partially agree. While I understand standing up for other people even when it's not affecting you is a good thing, Mr. Kapernick is horrendously misinformed and listening to misinformation. Racism in America is at an all time low. Sure it still exists, but it's no where near as bad as it was even 50 years ago. 50 years ago blacks could be barred from jobs, riding the bus, living in certain places, even going to school and people could simply list their reasoning as "they're black". Nowadays if someone did that, they'd be all over the news, they'd be shut down, lawsuits up the wazoo. Black people have it better now in America than ever before. Is it perfect? No, but there are still tons of benefits that blacks enjoy that whites can not and they justify it by saying whites in the past held too much power, but how fair is it to hold all whites accountable for the actions of some? I sure as hell didn't own slaves. I didn't bar blacks from jobs or schools. I didn't do any of that stuff, but I am being held accountable because I happen to share a skin color with those that did? That sounds a whole lot like racism to me. Black Lives Matter while has a few decent members, is being lead by people who advocate violence and spread wrong information. Police brutality in America is not as high as people think, and more cops are killed unfairly by suspects than innocent suspects killed by cops. No one wants to accept that fact, but it's the truth. Black Lives Matter has poor leadership and is run by those advocating violence. Martin Luther King whom is cited a lot by these people would be APPALLED by some of things they are saying. They have tried to get the news to ignore it, and will even get the support of major publications to claim that it's a "misconception" but we've all seen it. People calling for the death of the police, people calling for white people to be held accountable for crimes against blacks. The news will go so far as to indirectly call you a racist for not supporting it. I support equality, I support black people getting the same rights, freedoms and treatment as everyone else, I don't need to belong to a movement that is misguided and based upon wrong information to do that. In the words of Martin Luther King: "In the process of gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. We must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. We must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. Again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force." And: "I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia, the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood." Martin Luther King never called for white men to apologize for the past. He never called for people to blame the white population. He never called for the white population to solely be responsible for fixing everything. He never called for resentment against the white man. He spoke AGAINST falling into that trap. He spoke AGAINST special privileges for blacks. He spoke AGAINST keeping racism alive through reverse racism. And yet people are acting like this movement is what he wanted. It isn't. EpicEnergy 23,247 April 27, 2020 Share April 27, 2020 (edited) I don't understand why they want to disrespect the nation by kneeling. I mean, they could surely find other ways to protest whatever they are protesting. Kyoshi Frost Wolf 42,202 April 27, 2020 Share April 27, 2020 I was always down for this type of protest mainly because the national anthem sucks. That isn't just an aspect of my modern disdain for the US, I've never liked the anthem. It is pretentious as hell, with its boasting about the US being the "land of the free, home of the brave", because apparently no other place in the world has free or brave people. The lyrics should be something like "Land of the indebted, home of the military industrial complex" if it wants to be honest. Now in terms of these NFL peeps doing it, I don't exactly care either way with them because personally I don't give two shits about what some overpaid athletes are upset about, but the message I can at least get behind for sure. I am entirely against blind loyalty to the US and it's "flag". The fact that people were losing their minds over these guys simply kneeling during a dumb song is a perfect example as to why. 2 Redeem me into childhood. Show me myself without a shell. ssj4gogita4 102 April 27, 2020 Share April 27, 2020 Lyrics need to be updated. Definitely not land of the free. With that aside, I don't really care about the kneeling. The games are fun to watch. I understand they get paid millions of dollars to play every year, but they do have the right to kneel. I feel like it's upsetting so many people today because it was never a thing in the past. Or if it was, no one got the amount of money they did.
Early Sunsets 2,111 April 28, 2020 Share April 28, 2020 It's their freedom to do so. On the other side of the coin, it's also the right of a particularly patriotic person to boo them, and also the right of the NFL to kick out people who protest the national anthem. Looking back in history (or even at many other countries in the world today), that kind of protest would get you jailed or even killed (maybe not in today's world, as long as you aren't looking at a dictatorship), so it's amazing that they even have the right to do that. I don't personally agree with kneeling for the national anthem, but I do believe everyone should be able to express their opinion without going on a government hit list or something.
