Was Discord modeled after the Joker?

I know Q is a given, but it also seems to me that the Joker was an influence too, especially Heath Ledger's. Same speaking style and same ideology of evil (highly manipulative).

While that certainly sounds cool, I have my doubts. I think someone would have mentioned something about that by now if it were true. And honestly, I barely see the slightest similarity between the characters. That interpretation of the Joker was a broken toy out to break the world. Discord was just a mean-spirited prankster.

 

Their motive being they did cruel things for their own enjoyment is the only real connection I see.

I don't think the joker spouted so many popculture references. Besides Q, he kind of reminds me more of the genie, from Aladdin.

Haha... My dad loves mlp and used to watch Star Trek TNG. The first time he saw Discord being a jerk my dad just said "So, basically he's just Q?"

 

He's just Q in a different setting. I mean he's voiced by the same freaking actor, for crying out loud! Actually, given that Q is omnipotent, Discord *could actually be Q, having injected himself into the MLP universe for a laugh.*

 

They're identical. They even have similar character arcs. The joker doesn't fit at all.

The only similarity I see is to the silver age Joker. The one during the comics code era that just pulled pranks and wanted to make alot of money. But that is a bit of a reach.

I really don't see any sort of similarities between him and the Joker, so I have to say no.
