SunsetBaconDrive 169 October 4, 2016 Share October 4, 2016 After enjoying Legend of Everfree, I was satisfied, it will need time to grow on me like Friendship Games did. I just think I'm not over how awesome Rainbow Rocks was. But going back 2 years ago, Rainbow Rocks was a sequel to a mediocre if not bad movie(Equestria Girls) I'm not gonna defend Rainbow Rocks and say it has a complex plot, it doesn't. I guess the reason why others and myself prefer this movie above the others is that it has an energetic soundtrack and the dazzlings, I will even include Sunset Shimmer going from despised character to one of the best characters. Even if people think this is the worst movie out of the 4, you can't deny that Rainbow Rocks is an important chapter . I am not a fanboy of the movie who will crap on people for loving Friendship Games or Legend of Everfree better. Legend of Everfree had Embrace the Magic, Midnight in Me and Stand for Everfree. Friendship Games wasn't too music focused so we got one really amazing song Unleash the Magic. I think the core reason why people prefer Rainbow Rocks is that its an all around balanced movie compared to the other three. There is something for everyone in Rainbow Rocks. Sunny Fox 5,952 October 4, 2016 Share October 4, 2016 Inb4 DQ comes to say that Sunset Shimmer got brainwashed by the Elements of Harmony. But seriously, no movie should be forbidden i.t.o criticism. Rainbow Rocks is good, but not there are certainly plenty of episodes that are all-round better entertainment in the show proper. It's probably the zenith of the EQG franchise, but that doesn't make it perfect. Happy minion of The Fabulous One! Even Queen Chrysalis and Tirek, as black hearted as they are, could possibly be redeemed. If a hero can fall, a villain can rise.
Sunny Fox 5,952 October 4, 2016 Share October 4, 2016 To be fair to DQ, it's not exactly the most far out theory, given what a hash the writers made of the first movie's climax. I don't believe it personally, for various reasons I'm probably going to put on my blog someday or other but I can see why it might seem that way. Anyhow, this is tangential to the topic, and I hope DQ will forgive me my little jest at his expense. Rainbow Rocks is the best movie of the franchise (haven't seen LoE yet), and I do love it, but I think it would be wrong not to acknowledge that it has its flaws. Notably, the villains, while entertaining, are really just evil for the lulz. They don't have any real reason to be evil, except that they are Sirens and they're bad. And if that seems a little garbled, so is the motivation of the villains. Happy minion of The Fabulous One! Are they the only sirens? Were the sirens the changelings of their era? I wanted more dialogue about them taunting Sunset Shimmer. They knew what she did and I am kinda bummed Adagio just says "because you didn't" it was subtle, just wanted more in that scene.
Fluttery Shy 102 October 4, 2016 Share October 4, 2016 Rainbow Rocks was a good movie, because of it's soundtrack. It's my favorite EG movie, but it definitely isn't gifted with a complex good plot. It's a stereotypical band battle movie in the end which means, it's basically an animated soundtrack. But, holy hooves, the it's a REAL GOOD soundtrack that has been animated. ashi 261 October 4, 2016 Share October 4, 2016 Everything can be criticised (even Citizen Kane, The Shawshank Redemption, and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan), so long as it's constructive and not destructive. Anyway. Rainbow Rocks Friendship Games/Everfree Equestria Girls. :-P
takai 1,060 October 5, 2016 Share October 5, 2016 No, it can be criticized like anything else. However, RR is the gold standard when it comes to EQG movies because it was the complete package. The music was terrific, the villains were memorable and deliciously evil, the plot was great, the character development was fantastic, and it was wonderfully cinematic. KatonRyu 1,033 October 5, 2016 Share October 5, 2016 It will always be open to criticism, just like everything else is. The odds of me dealing out harsh criticism to it are slim to none, though, since I'm a huge RR fanboy. That said, it still has its flaws, like not explaining why they transform when they play music. The entire plot is facilitated by that magic, you'd think they'd give at least a cursory throwaway reference to music being harmonious and that triggering the magic or something, but no. It's lampshaded once and then ignored entirely. Twilight's 'explanation' didn't explain anything.
