Indicus looked at the old photo and the mare in it trying to recall a name. "Give me your wife's name and I can better remember everything. I've always been bad with remembering names. But if she was in the Night Guard at that time then I was one of eight who trained her and the others."

"Her name is Night Wing" he says with a soft smile and looks to the stallion "She often speaks well of her handler and superior officer from when she was a raw recruit, she keeps saying that it is thanks to him, i am assuming you, that she got to the top rank"

Indicus nodded, "Yes I remember her now. You see when myself and my seven squad mates below me trained the Night Guard we each selected a promising recruit to personally mentor and Night Wing was my choice."

 

Indicus smiled as he remembered those better times. "During trainings and the Everfree exercise. A hellish experience for the recruits I tell you. She tended to take charge of many situations. So I further mentored her to be the best leader she could be."

 

Indicus closed his eyes for a moment, "I'm glad she has done so well. Tell her I said hello."

Nightmare smiles as he goes to fill up his water canteen "I will sir, and I am sure she will be happy to hear that you've settled down with a nice mare" he says as he stretches his wings a little "Any other messages you'd wish me to convey to her?" he asks as he checks that he had everything with him before walking to the front door

"No messages that I can think of at this moment. But maybe we can visit you or something at some point. Still nice meeting you Night Song. I wish you the best on your travels." Indicus gave a friendly smile before getting to the kitchen to clean up the dishes and put everything away.

Nightmare smiles and tips his hat once more "Alright, well I thank you both once more for your kind and generous hospitality and hopefully we will see each other again soon, I am sure my lovely mare will be eagerly awaiting her old 'handler's' return" he says with a chuckle and with that, he spread his wings and flew off.

 

Crystal giggles "Such an odd stallion, but I am glad that your old ward was able to find somepony to love..." she says as she nuzzles him and helps him with the dishes, "You've got to do that job for Celly and Luna don't you? Maybe we could stay with miss Wing and she could also probably offer up some valuable information"

Indicus waved as Night Song left. Once the stallion was out of sight he turned towards Crystal. Sounds like it would be a good idea, get to visit, get started on the job and also let you get out some. Though a few changes to not have the guards called will be needed. Canterlot tends to be filled with prissy nobles and with their strict distaste for anything too out of their respective boxes they can be quite annoying."

 

Indicus laughed, "I've had my fair share of nobles call me a disgraceful half breed and a slew of other things. Even a few duels to quote preserve the honor of the Equestrian military. Common for the nobles in the Royal guard to do to the Night Guard. They lose and cry that I won and something about revenge. Funny each time it happens, made funnier when I tell them the Royal guard is there to satisfy the nobles and nothing more."

Crystal nods and sits down on the couch, smelling the blanket that she had wrapped around her. It smelled of home, it smelled of Indicus and his love for her. She sighs softly and curls up underneath it "I feel so at ease and at home here, the love you have for me, it is warming and sweet" she says softly as she closes her eyes somewhat.

Indicus snuggled up next to Crystal lightly placing his head on the back of her neck. "I'm just happy to be here with you. Honestly these past few days have been some of the best I've had in a long time. I think that's because of you being here. Thanks for this second shot at love."

"I could say the same thing to you sweetheart" she says softly, murring as she closed her eyes "Perhaps if Princess Cadence is there as well, we could discuss our wedding plans?" she suggest softly and flicks her ears rather cutely "I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with you"

Indicus's mind paused for a moment at the mention of wedding the idea catching him off guard. Intellectually he knew because of his changeling friend that relationships between changelings go quickly due to their ability to feel emotions and sensitivity to love. So if the couple truly loved each other they both knew it. Much unlike every other race that had a period of dating that lasted several months or maybe a year and half to get to know their possible lifetime partner. It was another thing to be in such a relationship with a changeling.

 

Indicus blinked as his mind focused on the world around him. "Sorry just getting my mind over the fact that it has been about a week and we're this close. Not that it's a bad thing but, it takes a moment to register." Indicus smiled, "Yea sure, we can discuss wedding  plans if Cadence is available." Indicus found his head snug on Crystal's back just before the band that marked her wing covers.

she smiles and murrs softly "I know sweetheart, it will take a little while for me to fully adjust, it's just.." she smiles warmly at the thought "I just cannot imagine life without you now, you've given me a second chance not only at life but at love as well, something I never thought I would ever have ever again" she says as she closes her eyes fully and flicks her ears rather cutely.

Indicus breaths in taking in the scent of her mane, "You have done both of those things as well because like I said, I was on a destructive path that would have lead me to my death or imprisonment in the depths of Tartarus." Indicus smiled as she flicked her ear and nuzzled her back from where he was laying.

She smiles and nods, murring softly in her sleep. Her smile only widened as she dreamed of a peaceful life with Indicus, she didn't care that he was a hybrid, just as he didn't care that she was a changeling. She flicks her ears once more and sighed softly in her sleep, "Love you my prince" she says softly in her sleep.

Indicus gave Crystal a kiss before carrying her to the bedroom and climbing into bed himself. He then snuggled up to Crystal and closed his eyes. "Goodnight my Queen" Indicus planted another kiss on Crystal before going to bed himself. His dreams were consisted of a pregnant Crystal and himself smiling at the prospect of being a father.

How-ever, Crystal's dreams soon turned to ones of nightmares. She squirms a little and whimpers in her sleep. "N-no S-Sombra! D-Don't do it!" she mumbles, "N-not the citizens! T-they did nothing to you!" she then bolts up in her sleep and screams "NOO!" she was a mess of shaken nerves and sweat.

Indicus's dream started to change and before he could react everything started to shift and he found himself with the changeling blood on his coat and a knife in his hoof Crystal laying on the floor dead. Indicus looked at the knife and blood then the body. A copy of himself appeared. but it had elongated fangs, and glowing red eyes, the mouth covered in blood that the doppelganger licked off before wiping the rest with a napkin "Who the hell are you?!" The double smiled and laughed "Why you forgot about me so quickly? You locked me deep in you soul and threw away the key then forgot... well tried to forget about me? You know very well who I am. Why, we were so close once, killing, feasting and growing in power. Then you just had to have a little bit of compassion of regret for that child. Since then you shunned me and buried me deep."

 

The shade walked around Indicus, transforming into a quite stunning mare with wings seemingly made of shadows, her red eyes looking into his soul as a part of him tried to hide. She had a long grey, midnight blue, and black mane and tail and she was a few inches taller. "This will be your future you beloved marefriend dead by your own blade. Me as your only company as we carve a path of blood through the world . Because you belong to me and I will let no one else have you! Who am I? I am you, I am your grief, and your rage. Your hate and your blood lust. And one day, I will be all that you will have. All that you can hold on to for eternity. So yes try to keep me weak, try to forget me, ignore me. But one day you will be desperate, one day you will embrace me in desperate hope to save her. That will be the day your mine!"

 

Indicus woke up his heart hammering and he heard Crystals panicked shout right next to him. Indicus hugs Crystal tightly holding on to her both to comfort her and himself. To remind himself that she was still alive.

The beautiful mare sobbed into his mane as they held each other close "I-I dreamed o-of him, of Sombra, of when he w-went mad, o-only I wasn't forced into exile..." she whimpers "H-he forced me to do m-many de-deplorable things, a-and then he k-killed me" she whimpers and nuzzles into him "Y-you'd never do that, y-you'd protect me, e-even at risk o-of your own life, r-right?"

Indicus hugged Crystal even closer. "No I would never do anything like that. I swear that I will protect you till my last breath leaves my body. If anyone tries to harm you, if anyone tries to take you. I will find you and hunt them down to the ends of the earth if it meant you would be with me. This I swear." Indicus lett some of his own tears fall as they embraced each other.

she nuzzles him "My dream started so nice too, the two of us, two little ones" she says, wiping her tears away and nuzzling into the nape of his neck and sighing softly "It-it was just a bad dream, that is all" she says and lays back down and sighs softly "I love you Indi, I always will, you and you alone"

Indicus rubbed a hoof across her back as a comforting gesture, careful to not hurt one of her wings. "I love you to Crystal, I'll always be with you or damn well try if i'm not." It was then a smooth female voice echoed in Indicus's head. "You will be mine one day remember that."  Indicus shivered a little and his emotions shifted to trace amounts of dread and fear for a brief moment but not quick enough for Crystal to miss.

"Why did you shiver sweetheart? Is everything alright?" she asks as she kisses his cheek, and tries her best to feed him some of her love, though it may have been futile, she still wanted to try and see if it could work, and if it could, then she could tell him that she truly loved him and would never let him go.

Indicus figured she would not believe him if he tried to say it was nothing. "A echo of a dream turned sour." Indicus thought for a moment before shaking his head. "No not a dream more like a manifestation of my inner demon. Some how it managed to crawl out of the deep part of my mind where I buried it."

 

The attempted transfer would fail. So unless she could make him part changeling it would continue to fail.

She nods "Try not to let it get to you sweetie, remember what you told me when I was scared and frightened, and when the others were here?" she reminds him with a kiss then sensing her attempt had failed, she decided to try to transfer it through the necklaces they now each had.

Oddly enough the transfer worked to a limited extent. Indicus felt a light warmth in his mind that really did nothing more then feel good but if she tried the direct way it would work slightly now. Though how it suddenly was doable would be a mystery vfor the time being.

 

Indicus accepted the kiss giving one of his own.
