Was The Lunar Rebellion Actually A World War?

Think about it. If two beings that controlled the night and day came into conflict and only one was going to win, wouldn't you want your country to have a say in the outcome? Every race and every nation in the equestrian realm would have been effected by the winner. A great deal would probably not want eternal darkness and send their forces to intervene.  

 

But then this was a war between night and day. So would it have been to far of a logic leap to presume that if Luna lost, the night would fall with her and there would instead be never ending daytime? Those nocturnal species or beings in colder environments would have a stake in seeing Celestia suffer defeat.

 

Or how about countries that don't wish to see their fate decided by a pair of ponies and instead intervene to end the conflict on both sides?  Defeat the warring gods that threaten to disturb the balance of the world. 

 

And even after the fighting between Celestia and NMM ended, word would still spread of the rebellion and eventually, it's end. Sides would still be chosen to either support the idea of eternal day or dethrone it. 

 

So do you think it's possible the implications of the equestrian civil war extended far beyond it's borders? Or do you disagree and think that somehow it stayed between ponies.

Assuming the entire conflict between Celestia and Nightmare Moon/Luna lasted longer than the few minutes that the show says, then I could only imagine that it would stay a civil conflict.  If any nations were called in to the fight, I can imagine that the vast majority of them (barring changelings, maybe) would side with Celestia on the grounds that NMM was batshit insane.  I cannot think of a single reason for anyone, aside from the Lunar Guard (or "Nightmare Knights" as I've taken to calling their evil counterparts), to side with her, since an "Eternal Night" would cause crops to die and the land to freeze over.

There doesn't seem to be anything to suggest that there was a protracted conflict, what we've seen is that Nightmare Moon refused to allow the sun to rise, the two sisters fought, and Nightmare Moon was banished.  That would seem to suggest that the entire thing only lasted, at most, a few hours.

 

an "Eternal Night" would cause crops to die and the land to freeze over.

 

Assuming that in Nightmare Moon's alternate timeline that she took over Equestria at same time as she did in season one (a fair assumption given that her return was foretold by a prophecy) then ponies had managed to survive six years of unending night (or whatever time span six seasons of the cartoon equates to, I think it's about 2 or 3 years given the amount of Nightmare Nights, Hearths Warming Eves etc that we've seen).  One would have to assume that things don't work exactly the same way in Equestria.  Maybe Nightmare Moon's magic allows some kinds of edible plants to grow in the dark, or maybe they all eat mushrooms now.  Whatever the reasoning, it seems apparent that eternal night doesn't mean the extinction of all life as it would on Earth.

I don't think the land was frozen over or anything when she was victorious though, the light from the moon and stars were probably fine enough for equestrian plants, considering it must've been years later and we didn't see it frozen over.

 

Ultimately the bigger issue was probably the monarchy was more strict and she was a villain ruling the nation and etc, caring more for her ideas than the nation as a whole.

Other intelligent species could likely had some sort of grief that the ponies controlled the weather and the night/day cycles but since Luna's outburst only lasted for one day I don't think the news caught on right away to anyone not even much of the ponies.
