Just how long is Rainbow Dash's mane?

So i've been watching MLP for a while now, and something has always bothered me.

How long is good 'ol Dashie's mane?

Most of the time, Dash's front hair has more volume and occasionally more length than her side hair. But there are times when her side hair appears to be way longer than it should. When she turns to the side her mane looks completely different to how it does at the front, and yes, it does look longer. Also, there are some moments, like when Fluttershy disturbed her on her cloud in Discord's maze whilst she was corrupted, when she lifted herself on her front two hooves her mane stretched all the way to her hind legs, which seemed madness after her apparent mane length. At the gala, her mane was now long enough to go into a pony tail almost longer, if not the same length, as Applejack's. I know hair can grow, but that fast? Also, in her Breezie form she has the longest hair of them all. I know this is probably because kids love Dashie and having long maned Breezie dash would make them go crazy and the merch would spiral etc, but usually she has the shortest mane. Why, suddenly, did it get long?

Also, in EQG, Her hair seems to be one of the longest. If we're keeping stuff how-accurate this is weird. Surely Applejack or Fluttershy should have had the longest hair in those movies?

Whatever length it needs to be. I assume the animators don't really have an exact length to work to, and just make her mane as long as necessary for whatever shot they are animating. Simply put, it's not an important detail, so they just go with what they think looks good.

Animator aren't that strict with that.

 

Sometimes Twilight suddenly get much more mane when it flows in the wind. Applejacks unfurled mane is hardly longer than Rainbow Dash's. Fluttershy 's mane covers one side of her face and later it's not much more than Pinkies front curl. Raritys wet mane seems to be longer than anyone else, being styled she looks almost bald like Trixie.

 

I think Pinkie has the most hair or maybe it just deludes the eye.

It's not really short, but it's not very long either.

I would go with a medium length.

Perhaps pony manes are elastic?  In fact, just like how pony ears can perk up or drop down depending on their mood, perhaps how a pony is feeling affects their mane shape/length (Pinkie Pie's mane is an extreme example of this).
