Prequel.

 

The whole Prometheus thing amuses me no end.  Ridley Scott was adamant that Prometheus, although set in the same universe, was not going to be a direct prequel to Alien, and then the (proto) alien appeared at the end.  Then he said that the sequel to Prometheus would take the story even further away from Alien, and instead it is now being billed as a direct prequel to Alien.  He either can't make up his mind or he's being steered by the studio.

 

I am looking forward to Covenant, but I'm considerably more hyped for the apparently upcoming Alien 5, especially if the rumours are true that they are going to disregard Alien 3 and Resurrection and set it directly after Aliens.
