How does that work?

I've been wondering about Tirek and Scorpan for a while now. They're vastly different species- one's a centaur, while the other is  gargoyle. Their parents, King Vorak and Queen Hayden (IDW comics, FIENDship is Magic) also reveals them to be of the same species, respectively. Apparently, they're compatible enough to sire halfbreed hybrids, if Tirek and Scorpan are a result of Hayden and Vorak's current marriage, and not- say, from a previous one. Is Tirek part gargoyle? Is Scorpan part centaur and capable of stealing magic like them? Are any other races able to breed and produce offspring? Griffons and Dragons? Yaks and Zebras?

Could be some ancient connection the two species have which has allowed for cross-breeding for a long time. And with the cake twins apparently being resutls from past genetics to be totally different pony races from their parents, it could also be the same cause here, where genetics play a wonky role in what species one is. I will also say that if the show ever confirmed cross-species possibilities at all with ponies, the fandom would go nuts. XD

Most certainly they would. Though I would still like to see future canon confirmation as to why this is.

They could be adopted, or crossbreeding is canon in the universe of MLP FIM.

I mean Mules already exist in the show, so that possibility wouldn't be all that too out there, all things considered.
