Arl Trotter (Torch-Hound)

Some of you may remember Arl, my character of an original species called torch-hounds.

Well, using my limited abilities in spriting, basing it off of the pony trottter, and a whole hell of guess work, I have made the very first torch hound trotter. It's also the first thing I've ever animated in my entire life. I had to pretty much remake most of the animation from scratch by referencing a pony trotter, and copypasting and modifying a few parts. A few things are 98% scratch: such as the entire head and neck area.

Go easy on me. It's my first time!

It is a bit choppy, but as it is your first time, it's WAY better than anything I could do. Two thumbs up, five stars, etc.

Well done!

Yeah, I know it's not as smooth as the original trotter. I did have a different body-type to work with though. But thank you. :)

Quite intriguing, I've been venturing at creating some sprites myself, but I'm not entirely sure how I should go through with it. Very nice work!

I think the best way to start is by modifying existing sprites, personally. It lets you get a feel for things. Thanks though.

that's amazing good work B)

Nicely done! :)

Looks nice.

So cool Good job^^

Thank you, everyone!

Not bad. Ok some suggestions. A big reason it looks jittery is because her positioning is changing. I would suggest marking a vertical line right in front of her nose then making sure her nose in every frame matches up to that line because she's going back and forth when her head and body should just be going up and down. Next after I lined her head up right it seemed like her neck really elongated way too much during the trot cycle. I would suggest lowering every head from frames 1-5 by a few pixels. Next her front legs on a few frames get very wide. Frame 7 is really noticeable. I would also try to make her foot less wide in frame 9 and maybe 15 as well. Next her back left leg for frames 13-16 have come forward a bit more so its a smoother transition to putting her hoof down. Last thing is you might want to have her tail cover up her back right leg since the tail is usually supposed to be in the center of the two legs so would naturally cover that leg up when viewing from the side angle.

That's all I have for you. Its a great start.

Thank you for your detailed critique. It was helpful. :D

I did notice the bit about the tail after I finished, but I was just way tired and sick of it, and didn't want to go back and edit several frames.

I might go back and fix it much later with the suggestions you've made. At the moment, I'm rather exhausted.

It depends on what you're going to do. Do you mean you want to use it to make your own torch-hound?

Nope, I was actually thinking along the lines of seeing what I could personally make of your current revision of this pixel, as in, adding in my own changes (It's a very common exercise/fun thing to do between pixel artists) :)

Well, technically it's not mine and based on an existing trotter animation, so feel free to go ahead.
