Soaring Symphony 372 October 10, 2017 Share October 10, 2017 (edited) While this topic has probably been done before, these are totally my own ideas and I have some pretty good reasons to back them up. First of all, ground rules. I picked these villians based on three criteria. 1: I'm not counting reformed villains. These are the freaking Seven Deadly Sins we're talking about. Naturally, they should only go to baddies. However, I will make exceptions for Discord and Nightmare Moon. I'm counting Nightmare Moon because, according to the comics (yes, I do consider them canon (bite me)), Nightmare moon is actually the result of the Nightmare Spirits combining with Luna. When she was hit with the Friendship Lazer, it separated the two entities. Nightmare Moon wasn't reformed. She ceased to exist. I'm also counting Discord because, despite allegedly being "reformed", he's still the pure embodiment of chaos and anarchy. No matter how quote on quote "good" he is, he'll always be causing all kinds of mischief. By the way, I'm writing this thread on October 9, 2017 so if any of these villains get reformed after the fact, it's not my fault. 2: I'm only considering villains who premiered in two parter episodes or movies. If a villain were truly a credible threat, they would have gotten more attention from the writers than a 22 minute episode. 3: While I am going to consider EqG, I'm only counting villains who are actually from Equestria. A human who manages to get magical powers through whatever contrived bulls**t is . . . no! Just no!!! Following those three rules, it actually leaves, coincidentally enough, exactly seven villains to sort through. Oh goody. Now, who matches up with what? ENVY Nightmare Moon. Duh. Literally the entire reason Luna became Nightmare Moon in the first place is because Luna was jealous of the praise and glory Celestia was getting. Next. WRATH For this one, I'll have to go with Tirek. He might have been power hungry, but in the process, he was perpetually pissed off, and usually screaming. Wrath an anger are the same thing so this seems like a pretty good fit. GLUTTONY This one has to be Queen Chrysalis. As Thorax said himself, changelings are always hungry, always trying to feed because they can't get full. While they might have a slightly unusual food source, the very biology of an unreformed changeling revolves around the fact that they eat too much. They are parasites, draining ponies of their life force. Just look at what Chrysalis did to Shining Armor. She turned him into a vegetable. Need I say more? LUST I'd say this one goes to the Sirens, mainly because of what inspired the characters. In ancient Mythology, sirens were said to be mermaid-like creatures who lured sailors to their deaths by being seductive, using their beautiful voices and stunning appearance as a ploy before turning face at the last second. In addition, the Sirens are also clearly modeled off of modern pop stars. If you take even a brief glance at pop stars irl, you'll see why that's relevant. Nowadays, a lot of female pop stars behave in a way that's extremely lustful (remember Wrecking Ball?) The Dazzlings even seem to play off of this idea what with their apparent, creepy need to touch and caress everything or the seductive way they dance. Although it's definitely toned down due to the "TV Y" rating, there's definitely a sexual undertone around the Sirens. SLOTH Discord. Even in his first appearance, he was more of a troll than a tyrant. He also physically has to do less work than everyone, being able to do pretty much whatever he wants with only a snap of his talons. Heck, he only ever wrecked havoc in the first place because he was bored. I'll admit, Discord doesn't perfectly embody laziness, but he comes closer than every other antagonist. GREED I'll have to go with Sombra. It's true that according to the comics, he started out with good intentions. His race, the Umbra, were buried in caverns underneath the ice and snow and Sombra took it upon himself to free them. However, his method of enslaving the Chrystal Ponies was admittedly a little screwed up. Not only that, but if we look at Sombra's future in the season five finally, it's clear that freeing his people wasn't enough for the stallion. He was building an army, and if he was able to pull it off, he would have taken over all of Equestria. He wanted everything, but instead, he got nothing. He's dead. Do you see why these sins are called deadly? PRIDE I'll have to go with The Storm King (from the movie). I'm sure most of you haven't actually seen the movie yet, so I'll try to dance around spoilers. Suffice it to say, The Storm King is extremely full of himself. He does what he wants. when he wants, for whatever reason he wants, and only thinks of his own needs. He's cunning and manipulative and all around just arrogant. I've often wondered why pride is considered a sin at all. How could it be a bad thing to be proud of your accomplishments? It's because the deadly sin "Pride" actually refers to arrogance and That's something The Storm King has in spades. Jeric 46,851 October 10, 2017 Share October 10, 2017 Always preferred lists that include Acedia and Vainglory instead of Sloth and Pride. Technically none of the villains would be representative of the original intent of what became Pride since they were all justified in their beliefs they were powerful enough. Greed is also specific to material wealth beyond that which one needs. What was Sombra's end motivation again?

Technically none of the villains would be representative of the original intent of what became Pride since they were all justified in their beliefs they were powerful enough. Greed is also specific to material wealth beyond that which one needs. What was Sombra's end motivation again? Oooooh, I didn't think of that. Acedia (apathy) would actually describe Discord better than sloth. Like I said, in his first appearance, he was only wreaking havoc because he was bored. But it wasn't the "I'm not sure what to do today" sort of boredom. It was an existential boredom. He was tired of life itself. Also, about the whole vainglory thing, I think the Storm King might be a pretty good fit. Like I said above, he's a manipulator. He knows how to control others through fear. Yet, as far as I know, he wasn't actually very powerful himself. It actually kind of reminds me of King Ramses from "The Prince of Egypt" (another character who's defined by pride) who was able to enslave an entire race of people but did so by enforcing fear. Both characters were extremely arrogant but didn't know how to handle the situation once their grip of fear was broken. About Sombra's motivation btw, I don't know. Why is that important? What makes greed dangerous is that there is no end goal. You just keep taking more and more for yourself until you're surrounded by crap you don't need and there's nothing left for everyone else. Besides, if you think Sombra wasn't greedy, he literally declared himself a king!!! For no reason!!! How much more greedy can you get than that? Misty Shadow 7,900 November 26, 2021 Share November 26, 2021 King Sombra and The Storm King should switch places with Greed and Pride. The Storm King only cares about using his subordinates, and even after conquering Equestria and gaining all that power, he was still too greedy to show appreciation toward his most loyal subordinate. When Sombra returned in Season 9, he was depicted as very vain, as if it was his defining evil trait. https://www.deviantart.com/frank3dz/art/A-day-to-remember-1140892930 (seriously guys, read this comic, it's hilarious)
Tom Gallagher 33,588 November 26, 2021 Share November 26, 2021 That's a very cool observation. Can't talk about the Lust one because I don't watch EqG but Envy, Greed and Pride are especially accurate!
