What Could have been

So I have seen the movie once in the cinema and once at home on the leaked version. And I just want to say I enjoyed it a 2nd time, but am still disappointed by some choices made in the final cut. 

I bought and read the Art book for the movie before seeing it and it got me hyped for a few things that were sadly cut from the final movie. (I will add pics when I scan them)

- The Storm King

The weakest character of the film, imo, but there are a ton of concepts and designs and even an early movie poster that hinted the Storm King having a final form after collecting all the magic. It appears to be a huge Kirin/Eastern Ice Dragon creature with lightning firing off him. Its beautiful and wouldve made for an amazing fight scene with Tempest and Twilight at the end and for a more viable reason for him wanting the magic in the first place. 

- Scorpan

The G1 Character mentioned before as Tirek's Brother. The book shows a full design of him serving the Storm King as an advisor of sorts. I guess this was too many characters and he got cut. But this may mean that he will be appearing in future, movie or season 8 maybe. 

- The Hippogryph land

The concept art for the land of the hippos' is stunning. Sadly you only get to properly see one part of it in the film which is the fountain where Skystar sings. Everything in the book is of wings and horse heads and I would LOVE to pay an artist to sculpt these for me for statues around my house. 

- The Hippogryphs

This was the main thing I was hyped for. HIPPOGRYPHS. All of them have incredible designs or different birds and colour schemes. They're so so pretty! BUT In the movie, we only really get to see a lot of Skystar's form, with the rest being stuck onto the end scene. You dont get to see the majesty of this species. The species that Celestia ordered Luna to find and help them!  GAH. It's so frustrating to see these designs just thrown away. There is a short storyboard of an army of Hippogryphs flying alongside the pirates coming to rescue Twilight with the 5. That wouldve been better than the cake scene. 

Sigh alas, it was not meant to be. If you guys have the book, let me know what you wouldve loved to have seen that was left out. I will add pics later for those who have not got the book.

I'm hoping they reuse the original storm king plot in another movie or in the show; what we got looks to be almost totally divorced from the original idea.
from what the original artwork of "cosmos"/tempest and the Storm king's beastial design looks like, I'm guessing the original plot was Cosmos/tempest Trying to unleash the storm king as a beastial Elemental to control for her own ends, probably like how the sony script info that we had talked about cosmos trying to get control over 3 elemental stones (betting the original idea was Cosmos trying to gain control over those stones to unleash an eldritch abomination being for her to command, it goes out of her control, similiar ending)

Yeh after i saw their previous ideas after seeing the movie I begin to heavily rated the movie much lower like about 5/10. I was hoping for the Parrot Crew to be more of intimidating vigilante  pirate crew who have some sense of right and wrong of course. But the 'Intimidation' part was knock out of the park. The part when Captain Celaeno came walking toward the ponies and figuring out their fate,  I was getting all hype up, till ya know..lunch break ruin it.  I mean they weren't bad but they could at least play a "anti-hero /bad guy" role for a little longer.  Same goes with Capper.

The two things I'm glad they changed was Capper's look design and Tempest concept.  I thought adding a brother of the two sisters will be a HUGE distraction that will take away the attention of the main threat, The Storm King.  And then it would have created two completely different sided plot story.  As for capper, a fox is overused, I'm glad they go with a cat. 

But overall, I hope the next time they make the movie they should be extra careful and learn their flaws from this movie to make the next one better.
