Discord

So who exactly is Discord? I pick and choose my episodes (ha ha), so i have not seen many with Discord. I know he is a reformed villainous draconequus that was turned to stone by Celestia and Luna, but that's about all I know.

Discord's origins or the extend of his nature haven't been fully explained, but he's called the spirit of chaos and seems to function as an avatar for that attribute.

While originally a villain who represented the antithesis of harmony and the elements manifested in the Mane 6, contorting each element to its opposite until defeated by Twilight, after a lengthy reformation process Discord is coming around to expressing chaos in less malicious ways.

That's it in a nutshell. You ought to go ahead and check out the Season 2 premiere though to see him in full villainy. It's still a fun couple of episodes

He's basically an immature, genie-like being from another dimension -- just like Q from Star Trek (in fact, John De Lancie portrays both of them).

Thats all the answer you’re going to get.

We don’t know a lot about Discord’s canonical background. Whenever he shows up in the show, it’s usually just to cause mischief for that episode, but it never really goes more into who Discord is or what his backstory is beyond what you already know.

But yes, you have to watch Return of Harmony. Discord is amazingly sinister in it.

Discordis one part Q, one part Loki, one part Mr. Mxyzptlk, and one part internet troll. Tricksters with slightly different motivations and agendas. He is certainly amusing.

It really is.

And yeah, Discord is awesome. But I find that the writers can sometimes abuse his personality or his presence. I know people want more and more of him, but I also believe his is a character type that can easily outstay its welcome.

Discord is like salt in cooking. A bit is delicious. Too much is gross and unhealthy.
