Your Top 10 Street Fighter characters

If you're older than 30 like me, you'll no doubt remember the original 12 from Street Fighter II. But after 30 years of games, Street Fighter now has close to 90 characters in its total line-up. That includes all the EX characters that are owned by Arika. If you've played all the games that have come out since World Warrior on the SNES, and you had to choose ten of your favorites NOW, who would they be?

If you're just coming back into this series and need to catch up to get familiar with them all, I'd recommend downloading the 30th Anniversary Collection that just released, as well as Ultra SFIV, SFV: Arcade Edition, Fighting EX Layer (if you have a PS4), and if you can find it, any version of Final Fight.

Gonna start with mine:

10. Rashid

3. Urien

1. Rolento

And since I feel this list will probably change in a couple of years, I'm gonna mention two more.

- G
sfv-arcade-edition-g-reveal.jpg.5b86f544a93ef29bb818d6be608648b0.jpg

I'm expecting them to add this guy to SFV in about a month. Nobody knows what G is all about or how he'll play, but he looks sick as fuck. He's like a roided out Abe Lincoln with gold tattoos. When I download him and finish all his trials, I hope I like him enough to make him my new main. I love Urien to death, but his bad defense is a problem for me.

- Doctrine Dark
1946670059_ScreenShot2018-07-25at12_30_35AM.png.64ca6cab6a2a7dfaca0f9971b4eeae10.png

I'm not gonna lie. I never played any of the Street Fighter EX games. They didn't attract much competition in the arcades I used to visit, and though I'm sure EX was popular on the PS-X, none of my friends got into it, so I didn't either. But man, watching all these online matches in Fighting EX Layer is making me want Arika to put it on Steam more and more. I want to play it so bad. And Doctrine Dark is the guy I want to try the most. His mine traps look extremely enticing, plus he's a militaristic psycho killer. That character concept's right up my alley.

Let's see yours.

Just a couple things I forgot to add to the OP: Try not to clutter things up with multiple versions of the same character. Nash in SFV clearly plays different than how he does in the Alpha series, but he's still canonically one in the same. You can specify if you use him in one game or the other, but otherwise, just put "Nash" in one space and leave the rest to other characters.

And in case anyone doesn't know, Oni in SFIV is just a more advanced version of Akuma. Even if he does use a different moveset and character model.

Well, I'll be damned.... I REALLY want to try G now. If I get the hang of him tomorrow, he just might knock Rashid or Guile off my list. This presidentiality gimmick of his looks very compelling.

And Sagat's looking better than ever.

What a tough decision this will be.....

Well, I'm certainly not disappointed. G is simply a badass! As a character, he just might be my new favorite out of all the newcomers. And we still don't even know everything about him. Who he is, where he's from.... or even if he's a good guy who really means what he says. And strangely.... that's what makes him so interesting.

Though I'm still undecided on whether I should start maining him. One thing I can say for sure is he's not as complicated to learn as all that tech form his trailer makes him seem. Just knock them down, then safely charge your level up. Or hit confirm into V-Trigger to get up to max level in an instant, then start canceling his specials into each other. I like that he can juggle off of his command grab, and it's a good set up for his super. And his Barrier is just plain awesome. It not only soaks up fireballs, but it can be used in combos, and with his VT1 active, it sends out its own projectile. This guy's a ton of fun.

2. Cammy

3. Juri

4. Makoto

5. Chun Li

6. Ryu

7. Zangief

8. Ibuki

9. Urien

10. Rainbow Mika

There is a theory floating around that G is actually Q from SF Third Strike. I was watching a video comparing there attack animations and most of them are identical.

I think they're connected in some way, but there's still too much doubt that they're the same person. I for one hope it's not true.

I think it would be interesting if it were true as I would love to know how he became that way. My guess would be Gill and the Illuminati.

Kind of off topic, but you play SFV? Do you play it on PS4 or PC? What characters do you like to play? And if you play ranked, what is your rank?

I play it on PC. I used to main Rashid, but I switched to Urien and stuck with him ever since he came out. I'm tempted to use G though. I haven't gotten much time with him in training mode, but I did finish his trials and I already like his gameplay. I've been thinking about using Sagat too since I played him a lot back in ST and Alpha 2/3.

I'm currently at platinum. I don't play ranked that much. I just do it whenever it's part of the weekly challenges.

That’s cool. Urien looks fun to play. I like when people do all the crazy stuff with the aegis reflectors. I never bought any of the season passes so I never got a chance to try him.

I mainly like playing ranked. I have been Silver forever though. The highest I have ever gotten is Gold.

I'm sorry to hear that. But it's a good thing that using real money to buy characters isn't your only option for this game. I only used my Steam wallet to get the 8 or 9 characters I actually wanted. The rest, I unlocked with the fight money I earned from clearing all the trials, demonstrations, story modes, survival mode on every difficulty with every character (yeah, I was crazy enough to do that, but it takes thinking outside the box to accomplish), and beating the gold Shadaloo soldiers that come out once in a while. I must have gotten over 3 million in fight money total.

You might not have the time to build enough EXP to unlock everybody. But if you clear survival mode on easy and normal with just the initial cast and level them up, you'll probably earn enough fight money to unlock two or three of the DLC characters. Playing the individual character stories and watching all the demonstrations will get you even more on top of it.

I really like characters that shit all over this notion of honor between warriors, and Sharon's another one that fits the bill. Why fight your opponents when you can pull out a gun and shoot them? Lol.

There's more to her than that of course, but I'm loving her character model in FEXL. She looked hot enough in Street Fighter EX, but this takes her to another level. That dress is very reminiscent of Ada Wong in Resident Evil 4.

Arika, please put this on Steam.

Welp, Fighting EX Layer just got released on Steam yesterday. I haven't played anybody online yet, but I've been having a blast experimenting with some of the characters. And I think I've already found my main too.

It's fucking SANANE!
A.k.a. Nanase from Street Fighter EX2 and 3.
maxresdefault.thumb.jpg.1df71232a80e467bbf3917e8eb89f9a5.jpg

I did not see this coming. Like I said in the OP, I was hoping to gravitate to Doctrine Dark, but I felt like he just couldn't "click" with me. At least not soon enough. His trials were some of the most difficult ones I've played in any game. I even tried to get the hang of Kairi, yet despite being the de facto "shoto" of the game, my progress in his series of trials came up second worst behind Garuda's. Well, that's some bullshit.

And just when I thought I'd settle with Shirase, I messed around with this chick. And by the gods, she is SO fun to play! Her gameplay is somewhat reminiscent of Iori from Capcom vs. SNK (a staple on my N-Groove team). But Sanane's moves are way more interesting: rekkas that can be done up close OR from long range, with an additional anti-air built in. A command grab that switches sides with the opponent and sets them up for a combo. An "air rekka" that hits like an overhead, and in multiple directions. A projectile super that also functions as a trap. A slide. Color me impressed; she's got everything I need for my aggressive playstyle. And I haven't even tested all the Gougi combinations yet! I saw one Gougi deck that makes low jumping possible. When I master that son of a bitch, my Sanane's gonna get scary.

As a character, there's not much that can be said. She's cute, but without the funding needed to develop a more fleshed out arcade mode, Arika's basically made her another amnesiac. That naginata of hers more than makes up for it though. She's so good with that thing, it practically does all of her talking for her. It's quite funny actually.

And now I'm starting to regret having missed out on the EX games back in the day. It never had much of a competitive following, but at home, I'm sure busting my friends left and right with Nanase would have been a prized memory. Still, she gets the honor of knocking Guile off my top ten list. Because I can whole-heartedly say that I haven't enjoyed playing a new character this much since Rolento. That's the kind of potential I see in her.

Welp, I finally got to mess around with Sharon. And she doesn't click with me. Such a bummer. Her rekkas don't offer much in the way of versatility like Sanane's. She has a Hooligan flip that works like Cammy's, but the command grab ender is so easy to abuse, there's no reason to ever use the overhead kick. There's just no mixup value to be had there when it sucks that much by comparison.

Consecutive rapid fire bullets shot at three different trajectories would be a nice asset indeed.... if you could reload the gun. And Sharon can't do that. What kind of assassin is she?
