Oh really now? I know many a Roberts that introduce themselves as Bob. Its literally a variant of her name that she prefers. And people who are named Robert will often introduce themselves as Rob, Robby, Bob, or Bobby.

It's not a rumored name, it's used by her mother in a flashback in "The Cutie Mark Chronicles". So it's entirely canon.
