Pony society vs humans

The society in MLP is based off western human societies. But with all the differences ponies have from humans, what logical quirks (for humans) would ponies have? Here are some facts that are in the show, or things that would probably be true, considering what the show gives us or the nature of ponies themselves.

Cutie Marks: Having a magical icon, wherever on the body it is, that shows your special talent in life would have a HUGE effect on society. The cutie mark would have a huge effect on first impressions, and an adult without one would never be taken seriously. Also, the effect on job applications...

Clothing: Since ponies don't wear clothes except to formal occasions (accessories don't seem to count), clothing in a casual occasion (unless it's cold) could be seen as erotic. Equestria would have "clothers" instead of strippers :o. Also, unless necessary clothing will probably keep the flank naked, to show the cutie mark.

Violence: As herbivores, I'm pretty sure violence will be a lot more taboo than with humans, since they didn't evolve with the need to kill.

Attractiveness: Male ponies have a big snout and no eyelashes, while females have small snouts and big eyelashes. Therefore those traits could be seen as attractive. So humans will be a lot better looking to male ponies than female ponies.

Emotions: With the ears and tail showing emotion and a lack of eyebrows and (probably) less emotional cheeks, humans would probably be seen as unemotional beings to a pony.

Telling each other apart: ponies probably differentiate themselves via fur color, mane color and shape, cutie mark, snout, eye color (they have huge eyes), race, and in the rare case (such as in Bic Macintosh) muscle build. Since humans mostly differentiate each other via the face, and we don't have skin and mane colors of every color under the sun and our mouths are built mostly the same, we would probably all look alike to ponies. You ponies are all racist!

Any other things that would differ between ponies and humans that I didn't list?

Easy. We have Facebook, they don't. Ponied win automatically. Oh wait, that wasn't the point of this? Very well, then...

Hm....very interesting comparison, good sir. Besides the part about violence and strippers, I'd say this is pretty accurate. xP

Oh, and I think Lyra would enjoy this thread very much.

Pray tell, did you read that fanfiction about clothing club?

I could hardly believe a single garment meant something erotic

One thing that seemed to escape most of us is the very fact they are horses. Equines. They moves in herds. In Equestria's case it seems the entire country is one huge herd, and Celestia is the Alpha Mare.

Humans like big guns and explosions. We blew up in Japan with the two atomic bombs for God's sake. That, and the fact that basically every human being is a violent creature compared to Ponies.

There are both unicorn and pegasus ponies who have horns and wings and can freaking use magic or fly/control weather respectively, and some who are both pegasus and unincorn/alicorn. Humans, meanwhile, are all akin to earth ponies...

I think the amount of magic the keeps harmony among ponies is the main difference.

The ponies, frankly, are too nice to be compared to humans. With a suprme just ruler who is more of a sentinal then a tyrrant keeps people happy, it's an ideal society just about. But like comunism, sounds good in theory, but it'd be impracticle.

Also they'd be alot of discrimination towards cutie marks.

If humans had cutie marks, we'd see some really awful talents Posted Image

With the talent for a certain kind of writing I have, I'd be really glad of pants if my cutie mark reflected it!

Ponies lack the level of corruption and greed that drive humans at their cores. The result is they don't have very much conflict (wars), they don't use religion as a weapon to attack anything they don't believe in, they don't kill the environment for convenience or money...I could quite literally go on for a page or two :3

In short, ponies are a far more advanced, less immature race.

I think that human beings are, by nature, violent because we evolved needing to kill. An herbivore sapient, then, will be peaceful compared to humanity. I'll be scared of an obligate carnivore sapient...

Just a theory I developed by myself, didn't check to see if there are any scientific theories on that.

Ok this is getting into a spiritual level which i find very impractical.

Cutie Marks: Though humans don't have Cutie Marks I find it rather easy to tell what a human does based on their looks, attitude, and apparent education level. Ponies look similar to each other most often unless it is intended to show a stereotype. That creates the need for a blunt image to show individuality.

Clothing: Ok... to start off I don't think clothing would be erotic if worn constantly. Take Canterlot for example. Almost everyone wears clothing on a normal day. Now pants is another thing however. While most ponies who wear clothing wear dresses(females of course)... Me tend to skip the pants for their suits. I assume that is because it would cover up the cutie mark and thus take out individuality.

Anyways, my main idea for clothing is that humans used to wear clothing because they need it. We dont have the fur coats to stay warm and protect us from outside conditions. If we had a better coat of fur I can guarentee you we wouldn't know what clothing is today. Ponies wearing clothing is a pure fashion statement just like most human styles now. Clothing for humans has become more decorative due to the ease of manufacturing them. Now why humans consider clothing necessary for simple? I'm not quite sure.

Violence: Of course they have violence. The season 2 finale shows that. Also, the palace and Canterlot are filled with guards that are often equipped with spears. That shows that they do know about weapons and what not. As for domestic violence I don't think it would be any more or less accepted. Violence is caused by the anger of one person/pony which occurs all the time. If a pony reaches its limit on anger there will be violence. If I was a pony and I just walked up to someone and just slapped them across the face which caused a brawl. The witnesses may be shocked and confused but so would a group of humans as well.

There is more to discuss but these are my main views so far.
