" Well, it's for sure better than sleeping in my tent. Heck of a lot warmer for one. That and you smell better than my travel blankets. "

Winter said teasingly as he stroked Tranqils mane absentmindedly. He drained the last of the rapidly cooling coco and set the mug carefully on the armrest of the chair.

Tranquil smiles and nuzzles into the head pets and mane strokes "mmm thank you" she says with a giggle "I sure hope I smell better than travel blankets" she says "I like to keep my coat, mane and tail nice and well kept"

" That is something we share in common. Its one of my few bits of pretentiousness kept from my time at home. I absolutely spend a bit more on good combs and mane care products. Though if I fly at any real speed it totally undoes anything I attempt to do. So I often have to comb my mane multiple times a day. or at least I used to. That is one benefit to city living less speed flying and thus a better-kept mane. "

Winter yawned mightly and his hand started to slow as it stroked Tranquils mane.

Tranquil smiles and nods, noting that Winter had yawned "It's been a long day hasn't it?" she asks with a smile and nuzzles him "How about I make us both a mug of tea each then we call it a night?" she'd ask, getting up and taking the empty mugs to the kitchen, washing them to use for the tea. "Is there a particular blend you'd like? I've got plenty"

Winter stands and follows her into the kitchen. He gives her a bit of a hug and stretches his wings. 

" That sounds great. Do you have any mint or other herbal blends? I am pretty much a fan of all tea so its hard to go wrong really. " 
 

He was exhausted but happier then he had been in a long time. For once the future looked bright.

"Hmm, chamomile honey and vanilla, chai late, peppermint.." she smiles up at him "I have almost every blend" she says as she gets out two tea bags of honey vanilla and chamomile, putting them into the mugs.

Winters eyes almost bugged out of his heat at the mention of chia late. He was almost giddy at the thought. It was something that he had not had since he left Manehatten he always felt it was too fancy and other ponies would look at him odd in places like Appleoosa if he tried to order or buy it. 

" By Luna.... I have not had Chia late in forever. Please, let's have that... I have missed it so much. " 

In a moment of pure happiness, he almost tackle hugged Tranquil and gave her a kiss on the cheek.

Tranquil changed the teabags to chai late and smiled "Two Chai Lates it is then" she says with a smile and giggles at his reaction, she then kisses him back and hugs him as she gave him his mug "I hope you don't mind salted caramel"

Winter shrugged beaming 

" At this point, I have not had Chia late in so long that I am not apt to be picky. I could drink this by the gallon. Though I do not recommend it. I drank way too much in my first week or so after I left home. Got really sick. Pretty funny now but at the time I resented my parents being right. " 

Winter chuckled at his own youthful folly.

She smiles as she blows on her tea before sipping it "A mug of tea is always good before bed. I find it helps to calm both my mind and my body before I go to sleep" she smiles at him "and I can imagine, looking back on it, I can think that if my parents were there when I bought that relic, they would have told me not to buy it, and I probably wouldn't have listened, then look back and thought how much of a fool I was not to listen to them"

Winters muzzle scrunched up with frustration at his desire to drink his mug of tea more quickly than was sensible. Be blew on the mug and used his wings to force cool air towards the mug. He was smart enough not to flap too hard but it was a real temptation. 

" So do your parents approve of your line of work? Or will they be pleased with your change ish of professions? " 

He sipped gently at the tea that was cooled enough to be drinkable. He let a soft sigh of pleasure at the taste.

Tranquil smiles and thinks a bit about her parents "They weren't entirely against it, more like they were just concerned for my health and safety" she says softly, "As for them being pleased with my change-ish of profession, I am sure they will be more than happy I am no longer communing with the spirits and the curse is lifted" she says, sipping on her own tea.

Winter yawned heavily and drained his tea. He sighed discontentedly at having to rush himself. But his eyes were heavy and his wings started to droop. He stood a bit unsteadily. 

" Ok I wish I could keep talking but I am bushed. Plus we have a lot going on tomorrow. " 

Winter seemed to zone out his gaze unfocused as sleep called upon him heavily.

Tranquil smiles and nods "Indeed, don't worry about washing your mug, I've got some stuff to do before I go to sleep, so I'll wash them" she says and looks at him "I hope you sleep well" she says, smiling and kisses him on the cheek.

Winter returned the kiss. He stumbled to the bedroom he was granted and fell sound asleep. 

Suddenly Winter was back at his Cute-ceañera. His parents were berating him for the large pile-up of snow he caused in his overexcitement of his first time helping weather patrol. His mother was shreaking at him about how she was now going to have to beg for funding because he delayed the delegation from Canterlot including Princess Celestia herself. 
His father was telling him that his uncle Spring Step would not be able to wash this one away for him. That he embarrassed the family. 
What should be the happiest day of his life was just another one of misery. 

Winter tossed and turned from the nightmare sweat soaking his brow.

Tranquil could feel his unrest and gets up, covering a yawn. She puts her dressing robe on and makes her way to his room. She thought about knocking on his door, but thought not to, so she just walked in and sat next to him, gently taking his hand in hers and using some of her unique calming magic to help calm him and his sleep down.

Winter seemed to settle a bit. He was still covered in sweat but he was no longer tossing about 

He was now in the skies barely hours after the party ended. He was half blinded by tears of upset and yet laughter at the freedom he felt. The decision was the hard part but the skies understood. They always did. The cool wind in his mane, the sights of ponies the size of ants, the smells the wind carried for miles. It all seemed to be endless possibilities before him. That day he flew until he fell out of the sky and slept in the tree he crashed into. 

Winter seemed to laugh at himself in his sleep. His skin was growing cool as if the dream was becoming his reality and he was cold from his " flight " .

Tranquil smiles, feeling that she's done all she could do for now, she kisses his nose and makes her way back to her own room, snuggling under the blankets and falling into a deep sleep. 

It wouldn't be until about 6:30am when she wakes up. She looks out the window "Still dark" she thinks to herself as she made her way to her living room for some morning meditation.

Winter woke up feeling like he had taken a bath in snow clouds. His fur was freezing. He stumbled into the living room and towards the kitchen shivering. He did not even see Tranquil as he staggered past and turned on the stove. 

" By Luna's mane, I am freaking freezing. What in Equestria happened in last night? It's not even cold. " 

He muttered this in hissed tones clearly still oblivious to the meditating Tranquil

"You were having a nightmare last night and was having trouble sleeping" she says, still meditating, "I did what I could to calm you, but I didn't it was my place to wash your fur" she smiles a little "and good morning to you too hon"

Winter was filling the kettle and ended up sloshing water in the sink as Tranquils voice caused him to jump. He snorted a bit laughing at his jump scare. He filled the kettle and put it on the stove. 
" Good morning. Thank you for taking care of me when I was dreaming. I am not sure how that could leave me ice cold though.... wonder what that was all about? " 

He grabbed some oats, brown sugar and honey from the cabinets. With that, he set about making a hearty breakfast of sweetened oatmeal, eggs, and a couple of mugs of tea. " 

" What would you like in your oats? I tend to add brown sugar, honey, and some chocolate shavings. Oh, and what type of tea would you like? I start the day with tea and have a cold coffee around mid-morning "

"Well in your sleep, you mumbled something about clouds, and you were sweating quite a lot" she says then smiles at him "And you're welcome, it's my duty as your girlfriend to help you when you need it" she says, getting up and kissing him on the cheek "As for tea, I'd love a nice berry blend please and I'll have what you have with the oats, please"

Winter returned the kiss and blushed a bit at her comment. As he ducked into the cabinets to grab some tea he sneezed and as he jerked his head back thunking it on the door of the cabinet. He growled in irritation at running the sweetness of the moment with an act of pure clutziness. He gets back to the food making two hearty bowls of oats with fruit, brown sugar, honey, and some dark chocolate flakes. As a side, he had two scrambled eggs and the mugs of berry tea. 

" So today we have Iron Feathers party to attend. Outside of that, there is a good chance a letter or worse an employee of my parents might arrive. Oh and your training. Then there is my own training for the shop. " 

His word seem to tumble out showing how his thoughts were swirling around. It seemed like survival in the mountains was just as complex as survival in the city. He was just not familiar with this type of survival and it caused his head to spin. He took a few spoonfuls of oats and then looked up looking a bit panicked. 

" Is civilized life always so complicated and busy? "

"Mm the food looks delicious dear, thank you" she says and then listens to what he was saying "I think your training for the shop can wait until tomorrow, I want you to be able to relax and enjoy yourself at your friend's celebration" she says, nuzzling him "and if a letter or employee arrives, we'll deal with it, okay love?"
