His only ex, in show, is Cheerilee and they were both under the effects of poison. Haven't read any MLP comics.

I may be in a bit of poor taste but i personally liked it.

Probably - I don't really find her heartbreak funny, so it was weird to see it as a throwaway gag - but it was unexpected and added to her character so I kinda liked it.
