Well, its' a two step process -

first step is to make, draw, or google for an avatar image you like.

second step is to go to https://mlpforums.com/profile/45109-derpusderpyderpiton/photo/ and upload it

(for the first step there are a number of online pony makers, such as https://create.mylittlepony.movie/)

(mine above is from https://www.deviantart.com/generalzoi/art/Pony-Creator-Full-Version-254295904 and requires flash)

If by that you meant what you can do on these forums, go to home page and see what the site has to offer.  

For example, if you're interested in discussing MLP episodes and sharing your opinion on these, there is a section called FiM Show Discussion. Click the section name to enter this area:

You can also directly click one of its subsections shown below.

For example, let's say you want to share your opinion on the very first episode, go to the Season 1 Discussion and select the episode you're interested in:

You'll be taken to the thread focused on that episode. Then all you have to do is to post there just like you're doing this here!  

 

If you'd like to interact with other members to get some friends, few of the best ways are
- viewing their recent status updates and commenting on these
- visiting Forum Lounge and chatting with the others
- visiting Forum Games and having fun with the others!

You can do much more than that, just go to home page and take a look at available sections. Their descriptions will explain what each one is about.
