Ideas for a science fiction movie?

If you made a sci-fi movie, what would you want it to be about? Where would it take place? Would you have aliens, robots, mutants, or time travel?

Can I suggest a novel be made into a movie? I loved the 2003  book "Getaway Special" by  Jerry Oltion. I think it's more a a fantasy, really. It's about a gifted young scientist that invents a faster than light star drive, and the software to navigate it with. It's made of electronic components so cheap and easy to find, that as soon as the plans start to spread on the internet, people being leaving earth in droves. All you need is a strong air tight vessel to use as your crew capsule, and a big parachute for landing. The main character and his girlfriend (A space shuttle astronaut) mount one in a (New and unused) plastic septic tank! One of the more interesting passages was about them meeting up with a submarine from the French navy. Out in deep space!

I loved that book! I would love a movie about it.

 

My own idea is perhaps similar. A lone inventor actually creates a working time machine. While using it, she accidentally corrupts space/time. The movie would be about her struggle to get the timeline back to where it's supposed to be, before she messed it all up.

An alien invasion type story from an alien point of view where humans are the invaders. I wrote a little story kind of like that once.
