How powerful was Grogar?

As you know, Grogar turned out to be Discord in disguise. But, how powerful was the real Grogar? The magic from his bell was powerful enough to turn Cozy Glow into an alicorn, Chrysalis to turn into a more powerful form of herself, and Tirek to grow to a form he previously had to absorb the magic of hundreds of ponies to get to.

Grogar would without a doubt be the most powerful opponent in the entire series. He would have knowledge of ancient magic and forgotten spells. If anyone could believably counter Discord's magic it would be him.

It wasn't exactly Grogar's power that transformed Cozy Glow, Tirek, and Chrysalis into potent beings, but rather the power that remained in the bell. That power could have been stolen from multiple creatures for all we know. I would argue though that Grogar had even more power than Discord, since his bell could easily consume anycreature's power and transfer that power over to Grogar.

There wasn't a real grogar right? It was just discord in disguise, I think they would share the same powers since they are the same guy.

My impression was that Discord took on Grogar's identity based on past events. The real Grogar is either dead or still out there somewhere roaming other dimensions. For all we know the activation of his bell will lure him back to Equestria one day

Ok, Im getting confused a lot.

There was a grogar and discord took its identity? Is discord just grogar? I don't know what does the story says since I haven't watched the later seasons.

If I remember correctly Grogar ruled Equestria thousands of years ago but was eventually defeated by a pony named Gusty the Great. Grogar's magic was sealed inside his own bewitching bell and he was banished from Equestria. The bell could not be destroyed and was hidden in a secret location. 

Within the Canterlot Archives was an old book which described the workings of the bewitching bell.

Since the Bell exists then that means Grogar really did existed, but he is either dead or wandering somewhere else powerless.
Meanwhile Discord was able to impersonate Grogar to pull off that iffy plan of his to boost Twilight's confidence(*cough*whilemostlikelydoingmoredamagethanhethought*cough*)

Grogar was more powerful than Discord. His bell was able to withstand the Deus Ex Machina Friendship Rainbow Beam and still continued to function. Unlike with Tirek, who was drained of the stolen magic by the same beam, the bell retained everything it took and had to be reactivated to give Discord and the Princesses their magic back. If Grogar could make something more powerful than Discord, it's not beyond reason that he himself was more powerful than the Spirit of Chaos.

Yeah, if he could make something that can literally survive a TRIPLE rainbow laser and still worked fine, that is some power.
In fact I bet his dark magic still exists within the trio, just weakened. Probably even going to regenerate soon and end up breaking them out of the statue.

That's a very good theory. If Grogar is still alive, there's a good chance he knows his bell was activated, and will use it to find his way back into Equestria.

Probably stronger, magically wise than any other being(hard to compare anyone to discord since his magic is more manipulative, his magic is not comparable to the others), as his power stored in the belle was enough to do what it did, and who knows if he had even more before his defeat(plus he was able to resist the rainbow beams as was told in twilights book.

It actually said he can tank the friendship rainbow lasers of doom?

Guess that explains why his bell survived a triple one and worked perfectly fine afterwards.
