While I do like G5 I do agree with some that it just doesn’t have that it factor G4 did and it doesn’t really seem like it’s attracting any new fans and the new fans that are coming are watching G4 instead. That said I hope G5 continues for a bit longer.

The series is certainly creating new fans, observed by TYT's immense popularity on YouTube. The problem is that the vast majority of the new fans are not getting involved in the fandom the way we'd describe it and joining sites like this.

Hmm that is a fair point for sure.

Pretty much. I recall looking up the viewership metrics for My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale on YouTube, noting that episodes released through their two official channels are attracting millions of views.

Moreover, in a recent conversation with my younger cousins, they showed me on their phones that platforms like Twitter, BlueSky, Snapchat, and TikTok host large vibrant communities with millions of users. When I mentioned the forums to them, they expressed a preference for the formats of those newer platforms, remarking that forums felt "slow" and for "old people".

I still like long animations like Make Your Mark. Even long animations in the Tell Your Tale art style would be nice. I guess I'm behind the times.....:Sunny-huh:
Also, I always thought concluding the Make Your Mark was a bad decision. After all, 3D animation can do that hard to do in 2D animation, there are different possibilities, and the animators whom created Make Your Mark are amazing! It's a pity to end the series.:worry:

Although I absolutely wish MYM had gone on longer and would absolutely love for them to do another 3D show, TYT actually does have "long animations" now with 22-minute specials. The first special came out in early April and there are three more coming in Season 2.

I watched the special episode and I really liked that one.
Although I disliked Tell Your Tale for being too short, I quite liked the song from the show

The movie and series were pretty good and its cool that ponies have figured out how to tie stuff with only their hooves.:winking-izzy:

What were Celestia and Luna doing during the "No Magic" years?

Maybe they hired an earth pony as a teacher to train them how to use their mouths and hooves ?

There's a saying in Chinese bronys use to discribe Hasbro:They use their life to create music, their heart to create animations and feet to make toys. The G5 cartoon in my mind is so far so good but still has space for improvements. But the original purpose of the mlp series is to promote toy selling. So if Hasbro could imrpove their mlp toys to a higher standard for Celestia's sake. I'm sure we will get more series of mlp in futre decades.

That's pretty much the idea, thougn, of course, they probably planned Hitch to be the equivalent to Fluttershy, specially with his ability to talking to animals, maybe meant to be a "Fluttershy if she wasn't shy", but now that we have Misty we can see that she's indeed more similar to Fluttershy, Hitch is more Applejack indeed, specially with his relation with Sparky, which reminds me of Applejack and Apple Bloom moments

I feel that so far it hasn't quite lived up to G4, but it seems waaaayyy too soon to say. It has a lot of potential, yes, but I'm worried that Hasbro might steer it in the wrong direction. The characters seem likable enough, and I liked the movie's animation style quite a bit, except there are a fair bit of plot holes, and there aren't that many connections to G4, which I find confusing, as it was shown that they take place in the same universe, and the ponies of G4 had made quite a mark on Equestria. Seeing as lots of extremely old history was preserved and displayed in G4, it's clear that the material they use in paper and such is quite durable, and can last for a while. So I'm not too sure why they don't have more information on the Mane 6 and the magic of friendship, and I'm also wondering why the Windigos hadn't come for G5 Equestria, at least that we know of. They are magical beings that feed off of hatred, and there was a whole lot of hatred between the Unicorns, Pegasi, and Earth Ponies before their magic was returned, and it's evident that there was at least a small bit of magic left before the G5 storyline takes place, since we can see Cutie Marks on the ponies (even if they are only on one side). Again, it's promising, but what I think it needs is for some plot holes to be explained/filled, and hopefully, they are able to do that, as G5 is fairly new

I think G5 has potential

Also, it would be cool to see them explore more parts of Equestria and see Spike again

It's just too bad that most of G5's potential seemingly won't be realized.

Here are my complete thoughts on Generation Five.

Generation Five had the potential to be something great, But I think what it was mainly struggling with was trying to be something new and at the same time trying to be like Generation Four without understanding why Generation Four was a big success in the first place.

But another issue was some fans weren't ready to let Generation Four go, thus creating this hate train. Don't get me wrong some of the stuff in Generation Five is horrible, but the reasons why some people don't enjoy or like Generation Four are a bit ridiculous.

I won't however act like I'm not guilty of acting like this in won't point in time.

Generation Five did have an interesting storyline but I think what ruined it ultimately was the fact it tries desperately to be like Generation Four, it ties into Generation Four too much.

I did enjoy Generation Five, but as soon as I started warming up to it they ended it. How disappointing  :sunny:

An entire generation of wasted potential

Everything after the film was a downward spiral in terms of quality and characters getting turned into one-note archetypes was extremely disappointing

Only real highlights were Movie!Izzy and Misty reuniting with Alphabittle

The movie was great, TyT has its moments, MyM is pretty solid apart from the animation. It was always going to be a step down from FiM in terms of fun and edginess given the Faust/Tara combo, but I really feel like the writers love the pony brand and, having got into all of the generations of pony now, I think it fits in.

hello time travelling North Star. I still agree with you :3 also, I like what they did with Misty

I couldn't watch past the first movie. It held so much promise. I liked the Gen 5 movie and the fact it was 3d. Then it got ruined...

For me, it depends on the time. From 2021 to 2023 for me the Generation is fine, 2024 onwards for me it's bad

I think the movie and MyM are nothing special, but they are good by their own merits, I specially think MyM had the best villain in the entire franchise (Opaline), she was easily the most entertaining part of the entire generation for me, they actually gave a lot of episodes to develop her and not just two.

Being a sequel to G4 didn't bother me any bit, specially because they used Twilight, Spike and the others to actually make a new story, instead of just making fanservice or empty nostalgia.

TyT for me is bad, but that show simply isn't for me (neither MyM or the movie were, but I still think they were more interesting), I can't enjoy the short stories and short format, but there are a lot of people who like it, so...

I personally think the biggest mistakes of G5 were finishing MyM and forcing its viewers/fans to continue into TyT to see the rest of the story, not everyone will just accept switching from a 3D show with 20 minutes episodes and more complex story telling to a 2D show with 5 minutes episodes with more simple stories, I'm sure about this because a I saw lot of people and youtubers complaining about TyT continuing MyM. For me they should've ended the story definitely in MyM or continue the story in a similar show, with longer episodes, and leave the "fillers" for TyT.

The other mistake was cancelling TyT and not letting it tell the full story, if you forced your viewers to go through it for almost the entirety of 2024, to wait every 2 weeks to see a new episode patiently, then finish your story, cancellation was such a terrible decision and for me this betrayed the fans who had hope for the generation.

I think that's pretty much it, "Aaah the wasted potential", Honestly? Honeeeestly? I personally think G4 had a lot of wasted potential too, not only in the first Seasons, but specially in the latter Seasons, there are some aspects in FiM that for me were worked so lazily specially in its latter Seasons, for me people are just too harsh with G5 as if G4 was perfect and didn't have a lot of problems too, I think G5 is fine considering its purpose and target audience, I think a adult like me just expect too much from it, I think the people behind it clearly aren't interested to do a show that breaks the internet again, they just did what's safe, a fun silly show to entertain the kids, and it's certainly one of the best available for them. G4 had its moments, moments that called the attention of older audiences, I think G5 had no interest in repeating that, and I don't see anything wrong with it.

People already saw what MLP has to offer, the franchise can't surprise anymore, I think what you expected for G5 was never going to be made, was it really necessary? I think it had some objectives, almost of all these objectives were completed, with the failed objective being the one of telling its story in full.

Or maybe this opinion is solely because I don't care much about the franchise anymore, so I don't know if my thoughts count :ButtercupLaugh:

Quick scene set:

g5 gets turned into their own version of Equestria Girls in the human world. Izzy founded a recycling club at her boring school, Pipp is a famous influencer at her school, Zipp is the captain of everything sports related and their mom is the mayor who is faking her connections and bribing people. Hitch is the detention monitor at his and Sunny's school where she's an outcast who is always promoting school unity.

How should they all meet and what are they trying to get together in place of the crystals?
