Drawing and pushing the code to the limit today to make a Pony Tetris. It will be absolute perfect to fit all the pieces together..... And the good controls are back :ButtercupLaugh:

The two poines seen are two different things: Starlight is a "sprite", and Fluttershy is made up of background stack blocks. That means that it will be possible to clear lines and cut ponies in half.... :awwthanks:

Sure looks interesting,but how do you access it? Only thing in the start menu's Pac-Pone.

Tetris.... I mean PonyTris is ready:

With intuitive controls, multi preview of next pieces, and cool sounds, you will have the best of times.

I was hoping to finish this before the old deadline but it wasn't possible because of some gravity calculations. If it turns out that there are no visible glitches, I will have to artificially add some. But I do expect something to break at some point.

Continuation...

My final update (unless I find something really broken before the deadline):

A showcase of the Tetris clone:

A showcase of the Pac-Man clone:

There are a few bugs, some known, and some only happening if the frame rate drops (which happens if you run too many windows). There are added glitches that were not there previously, so search thoroughly!

This has been a long and kinda awesome journey for me, because I have prioritized areas of programming I haven't done previously. It has been a challenge and a learning process. Most of the code can be reused for much better games in the future. The project will keep living on after the competition has concluded (but will be frozen until a winner has been decided of course). There are still potential for this to be a "real thing", kinda.

@Splashee I actually intended to put a jumpscare in my project, but for some reason, this "intended glitch" doesn't appear as planned. Does this (an intended glitch not working) count as a glitch?

Glitches do need to be visible to count.

I can only see the Pinkie duplicate glitch. I wasn't able to find anything else.

MY GAME IS FINALLY FINISHED!!!

My Little Pony - The Mission of Saving Starlight Glimmer.sb3

This is an SB3 file. Watch this video to see how to open SB3 files:

Quote

Instructions:

Queen Chrysalis has built a castle in Equestria and has kidnapped Starlight Glimmer and hid her in her castle. Your mission is to help the Mane Six defeat Queen Chrysalis and save Starlight Glimmer.

Use arrow keys or WASD to move. Press R to restart if you are stuck. Navigate around the castle, collect diamonds and 1-up hearts, kill enemies, avoid slime and make your way to Queen Chrysalis.

Since Queen Chrysalis used changeling rock to build her castle, this means pony magic doesn't work. Therefore, no flying and no unicorn magic.

The enemies you'll face are: walking changeling, flying changeling, shooting changeling and changeling slime. Collect diamonds to get a better score and 1-up hearts for extra lives. But watch out, because some of the changelings are hidden among the diamonds. Can you figure out which diamonds are real and which ones are fake?

Throughout your journey, you'll also face six different challenges: the walk/fly challenge, the shapeshift challenge, the maze challenge, the slime challenge, the platform challenge and the shooter challenge. Can you get past all of these challenges and get all the Mane Six to the boss room?

The fastest player gets the highest score.

Note: This game also works just fine on mobile devices. In other words, it's mobile-friendly.

If one of the levels is too hard and you think you can't beat it, then you can watch the walkthrough to figure out how to do it.

Please note that there are some glitches in my game. Like I said, it's impossible to make a glitchless game. However, the glitches in my game are very hard to pull off. Therefore, good luck if you want to see the glitches, but I'd suggest that you don't.

The boss fight was also rushed because of the time limit. Thankfully, I managed to come very close to what I had in mind. But still, I could have done better.

Spoiler

In other words, my game is somewhat similar to season 3 of MLP. Basically, everything is exactly how it should be, except for the last part, which was totally rushed.

I hope you will enjoy my game! Good luck, everyone!

I can't do anything now, it's time for bed...

Guess it won't count. Meh, I just came here for the fun of programming, not to win.

Same here, it is all for fun. I also understand your time zone and school.
But you do have a visual glitch so it is all okay! :)

I got through to Applejack before I got Game Over.
Very polished game. Good music, good artwork! Moving platforms!

Definitely very high quality. I didn't run into any glitches though...

The thread auto locked on my 12 AM and not on the forum's 12 AM. I unlocked the thread manually and will keep it open until the forum actually ticks over to Monday, which is less than 2 hours from now.

Manually locking at exact 12 AM 19th September "Forum Time". Do not change or edit your entries.

I will start a discussion with the participants how we should proceed with judging the competition (through a Status Update tagging all the members). In the meantime, try each entry out!

I got a non-forum friend to judge this competition. She's had 96 exits in Super Mario World, and has seen all of Friendship is Magic:

@Rainboomer Zap
The Pinkie game is super cute and lets the player just go nuts with fun and varied decorations all over the place in true Pinkie style! The Pinkie clone glitch was a fun and surprising addition. So many Pinkies!

@LCpony417
This game was fun, exciting, and challenging as well. Really nice pony sprites and the platforms were very cool. The controls were simple and easy to use, which is always a plus!

@DPBOX
Getting a retro feel with this one, especially the sound! Very colorful artwork and map design. Quite distracting glitch following Luna around! Slightly difficult to control the player, even with the instructions.

@Splashee
Very difficult to play the games with the easy-to-miss buttons. Takes quite a long time to get the games running. Glitches weren't as noticeable. The Starlight Glimmer theme was a nice touch!

And the winner is:

@LCpony417
While your game had a few issues, completely fitting the glitchy theme of this competition, I had a lot of fun playing through the 10 generous lives, and got to enjoy the cute sprites and music. I didn't get far, but I got to see the ending through your video.
Congratulations for winning the MLP Pony Dev Jam!

Wait mlpforums had a game jam and I missed it? Dang I gotta be online more. Awesome games btw ^^

Thanks!

Let's hope we can have another Jam soon. A lot of members are busy so it is very difficult to plan.
