Motel/ Hotel experiences

There’s always stories to tell when people stay at hotels or motels. It’s either a good or bad experience, I think. So let’s share.
What have you guys got to tell about your own hotel/motel experiences that stand out the most to you?

I have personally found myself having to stay in a same name chain of motels in 3 different cities, back to back, for a time- and each time (so far) being vastly different from each other- the first stay in city #1 being a place that didn’t even have staff come in to take out the trash or supply fresh towels for the duration of the stay (a whole week). But the shower had excellent water pressure, lava hot water, and a nice shower head. And there was no issue with my card being demagnetized although being kept in my wallet the entirety of the time.

The second  location had actual room keeping and fresh towels and soaps day to day, which was nice- but the shower head was garbage and didn’t have enough holes to provide a satisfactory distribution of water. And unlike the first location, the room card quickly became demagnetized after having spent the day in my wallet, which was a frustrating realization coming back to a dead card at the end of a long day of being out and about.

You're not setting your wallet down by a self checkout or anything like that are you? I ruined a gift card that I was in the process of purchasing when that happened. Apparently you're supposed to just hold onto them and not place them in the bag. Anyways, off-topic.

The last hotel I stayed at was at a local casino. The room was nice, oddly dim despite the crazy number of lights. Had a good view of the parking lot and could see our car. Pretty treeline and it was a good night for the sunset, waning view, and I think Venus. The complimentary hot beverages include mint tea, which is one of only a few I like so I had something to sip and enjoy. Shower was interesting with one above head and two in the wall. Good water pressure and temperature but it made a creaking noise the whole time. Only real complaint was that there was a booger on the wall in the bathroom.

Being a casino, the ground floor was all games and amazing restaurants, some of the best I've ever been in. Only issue there is that there's no complimentary continental breakfast.

We'll be going to Vegas later this week so that might have incidentally served as a warm up to what's to come. I don't expect eating to be cheap :lie:

I have never heard of a gift card being ruined by being near the register before- what?!

And I cannot fathom how a Vegas hotel lacks any continental breakfast. That stinks.

I don't get it either, but customer service and the store manager told me something about the scale table where you put the groceries after scanning them at a self checkout does that. They did it with their wallet once and had to replace all of their cards. Luckily I just had to select a new gift card.

I've never been to Vegas, but the casino hotel near home I stayed at just offers the restaurants.

I stayed at a Best Western just on the edge of Disney property at Walt Diseny World. I usually stay at a Disney hotel but didn't want to spend another wad of cash to park my car. It should come with the room, like the pool, pillows, bathroom , etc. Anyway, it was a great hotel and I was in a tower room with a great view; much better than the Disney hotels which were close enough to spit on, even though it was peculiar in that there was no one there to check us in when we arrived. The place was deserted. We were late, but we did call ahead and they knew we were coming. It took some serious searching around to find someone to actually let us in. Aside from that lapse in professionality, it was a nice stay at a nice hotel for a nice price.

The most memorable hotel experience I had was when I visited Sydney about 10 years ago. The room was small, but it was so clean and comfortable. I didn't want to leave! :please:

I haven't had any bad hotel/motel experiences yet, so I'm lucky in that sense.

I honestly don't feel comfortable at any motels nor hotels, but If I had to stay the night at either one, It'll be a two bedroom hotel. Probably would be spending like 150$ per night at a fancy Hotel just to feel comfortable if I ever go on a vacation in areas where no relatives are living. :pout:

Most of my experiences have all bin good but one time we went to a really small motel and it was just odd really there was I assumed a dog toy I thought because it squeezed but it was under the carpet. It was a big bump in the floor in the middle of the room it had a pull out couch but the bed was like the thickness of a pillow and everything else was just odd.

This one was just funny at the time one year when we went to bronycon my mom for some reason thought it was a good idea to bring watermelon and it was all chopped up but it got warm and went bad by the time we got there and it started to smell. We didn’t know what to do with it cus we couldn’t just throw it away because it stunk so we had the bright idea to flush it down the toilet. Wtf I know. Anyways we tried but the toilet clogged and we panicked. We had to call the desk and say our toilet was clogged and they sent a guy up and I said I ate a lot of watermelon and no one said anything else. He fixed it though. :Thorax::laugh:

Oh yeah nothing like getting woken up in the middle of the night because the people in the room directly next to you decided to “have some fun.” That’s a memory I’d really like to forget

I instantly remembered that one time I was in this crappy motel 6, and I hear the police shout "come out with your hands up, we have the building surrounded", I was like whaaat?

It was something along those lines :ButtercupLaugh:. Oof. It wasn't for me or my friends lol.

Did you already figure out it wasn’t for you before going outside with your hands up? Lol

Maybe I should have :P . I don’t think that would’ve constituted a confession to something I didn’t do.

I did have an interesting experience once when helping out the staff at a hotel where I do a little floor polishing as a side job. We had a Russian ballet troupe staying with us for a performance in town, and they didn’t speak a word of English. When they were getting ready to leave, they had a large bus in the parking lot and were loading up their luggage. Just as they were pulling out, I saw a box of dishes sitting in the lobby which they had apparently left behind, so I grabbed it and ran out to give it to them, happy to be of service. They looked at me with very puzzled expressions, but I assumed that was because of the language barrier. They left and when I returned inside there were some other guests who were looking for their missing box of dishes. I didn’t really know how to tell them their plates and flatware were on their way to Russia. Détente takes some weird forms, no?

I've been to a large share of hotels/motels. I remember one in Colorado that said it was a quality inn, we get there and it was just a super 8 that had quality inn logos on top of it. It was not good.
