The Wizard's Politics

Welcome to my little day dreams! This idea is the product of boredom, fanciful ideals, and a school time day dream combined with some ideas from dozens of books and games I've played and read over the years.

The below knowledge isn't REQUIRED for playing this game at the start, but it is rather important for the story (and i like details).

Background Knowledge:

The players in this game, and the NPCs, are all going to be in one of the 'Guilds.' In general the Wizards dominate the other guilds, and often end up enslaving them and, tbh, I plan on most people being Wizards (You can play as a part of another guild, it'll just throw off the entire plot I have in mind and I'll just have to wing it). Players may or may not know that they are part of this guild, as due to the history of the guilds in America have left many generations without the slightest clue of their 'abilities.' If your character does know, they only know a little and their abilities are beyond their control, maybe even dangerous at times if it is built up without release.

This is set in the modern day, specifically on one of the great lakes in Michigan in a camp/school surrounded by a wood. This is a time when the two major political groups of wizards - The White Rose, and the Red Rose - are in extreme political tension and blood is being shed, more often then before, over the conflict. Also note: Average people do not have the slightest clue of the whole Guilds and Magic thing going on.

Magic works like this:

All the guilds can use their magic without verbal words, just mental concentration. Wizards, however, must use spoken words, which shape their magic in the physical world. Due to the use of words, a Wizard's power is a lot more flexible and can be shaped to do complex tasks - If you know the language to do so. The language use for magic in this game will be Latin (Lets just pretend that Latin is a dead language that no one knows except well trained wizards).

Also, all guilds have 'weirstones' just below their hearts - this is the source of their magic. Some people have extremely powerful weirstones, though I will not allow any players with OP weirstones unless they have some sort of disability to compensate.

Magic also depletes physical strength, and WILL kill someone if they deplete too much. It builds up over time, and if too much is built up and the person doesn't know how to disperse it properly, it can come out explosively - causing things to spontaneously combust, or do something else out of the ordinary. (Usually has something to do with the Guild their in).

The Guilds:

Wizards:

Wizards have the abilities of all the guilds to a degree, though not as powerful as the other guilds themselves, and shape their power with words. They can complete complex tasks with magic IF they have the knowledge and a improperly spoken spell will result differently, even ending in disaster. They generally are the most powerful for being the most versatile and rule the other guilds with an iron fist. They use the other guilds like slaves.

Sorcerer:

Sorcerers have knowledge about materials and their effects beyond that of any other being. They can use this knowledge to create powerful potions and poisons, and they can create objects of power with enchantments. They are valued by Wizards due to this, though not as much as they used to, as many recipes to make powerful objects have been lost over the ages, and the ones currently in existence are all that remain.

Enchanter:

Enchanters simply have the ability of persuasion. Their magic flows off them in massive amounts, making those around them unusually happy and open. They are one of the least valued guilds.

Warrior:

Warriors are extremely fit and can do extreme physical labor with little difficulty. They are naturally adept with weapons such as Swords, Bows, Axes, and polearms. They are used in Wizard politics, often one Wizard's warrior fighting the other to the death to decide a conflict without any Wizard blood shed. This has lead to the near extinction of Warriors and they are considered the most valuable of all the guilds to a Wizard.

Foreseer:

These people have the ability to see into the future, and predict possible outcomes - though they often don't see details, and their predictions are vague. They are valued by some, but to most are considered useless. Very few Foreseers are powerful enough to control their abilities, and they usually keep this to themselves. They are mysterious, and some believe that they have more power then they let on. Some Foreseers go insane from their abilities.

The Plot:

You have selected, or been selected, to go to the Greenwood Academy for one reason or another. It is a school for especially talented and troubled teenagers. The Academy is isolated in the middle of the woods on the shore of Lake Michigan in Michigan. The school population is relatively low, with only 100-200 students at any given time. Make no mistake, This school is for the 'correction' of students who have been accused of arson, or have mysterious happenings occur around them. The fall semester is just about to begin.

Character Details:

Sex:

Age:

Please note: I will be taking the liberty of killing off players who attempt to be OP, do something stupid that would result in death IRL, and it is possible that you will be voting eachother off the 'island' eventually if I decide to start killing off characters in the name of the story line. I guarantee it will be interesting. As soon as we have enough people we will start.

I'm gonna go ahead and say that from here on out, no more player Warriors. All other guilds are available, but the Warriors guild is supposed to be a near extinct group, with only 4 or 5 on the planet.

Also, decided I'm going to start this tomorrow after school, as the more I think about my evil plot and its awesome sauce twists, the more I want to start playing evil and throwing stuff at your characters.

(Ready - set - GO!)

Arvena rode the cab in silence, watching the land pass by. There had been nothing but forest for several miles, and a few miles back they had passed a fence that marked the beginning of the academy's land. The place was clearly loaded, as the gate was made of iron, with brick walling running off in both directions, presumably around the entire place - which was huge. As the cab pulled up to the end of the driveway, near what looked to be like the school itself, Arvena gave a handful of bills to the driver, then stepped out of the cab with a backpack and travel bag slung over her shoulders. She looked around, taking note of several other students exiting vehicles and walking the campus, then pulled out the note she received VIA mail a few days before. Apparently she was to find the dorms (girls being separate from boys), claim a room with her possessions, then move on to the orientation in the auditorium. Unfortunately the note came without a map, and she didn't have a watch - but if she were to guess, it would start in about ten minutes.

"Hi, I'm Jacob, welcome to the academy."

Arvena turned to see a short boy holding out his hand in greeting.

"I'm Arvena. Could you point me in the direction of the dorms?"

She reached out and grabbed the boy's hand. The result was like sticking one's hand in an electrical outlet, as energy flowed through both of them. She pulled her hand back quickly, realizing the boy for who he really is - a wizard. The boy's smile had dropped instantly and he now frowned, and even had a hint of sadness on his face for a second, then the smile returned.

"Down that way."

The boy pointed down at a building in a short distance away near the lake. He then added in a whisper,

"Don't tell anyone about your 'abilities' and try to suppress your power. And don't say a word about me either."

With that, the boy turned and started to speak to more new people.

Arvena noticed something dead serious in his voice, almost as if he dreaded her coming. She turned and started to walk in the direction that the boy had pointed in, wondering what the boy could possibly have him on edge.

Nidal and Zeroc were thrown out of the police truck, landing on the dirt with their hands tied behind their backs. A police officer jumped out after them and took his knife to their ropes, setting them free.

"You two are free to go as long as you don't leave the grounds."

He reentered the truck and they drove off, leaving the two of them stranded in the academy grounds.

Nidal got up and brushed herself off.

"Might as well make the best of it."

Zeroc quickly got back on his feet and glared at the far away truck.

"Sure. Let's go meet the people, at least."

He turned his attention to a short boy who seemed at home in the camp.

"Hello. My name's Zeroc and this is Nidal, would I be correct to say that this isn't your first year here?"

He stuck out his hand.

Jacob quickly sent Arvena to the back of his mind as two others were deposited by the police, rather brutally, to the school grounds. He put on a smile and walked on over to the two.

"Of course, the names Jacob."

He took Zeroc's hand and released a bit of his persuasive energies into the boy.

"What can I do for ya?"

Jacob wondered what the two could have done to get treatment like that from the law enforcement. Either way, it didn't really matter to him, they would probably be broken in by the administration by the end of the week.

Zeroc furrowed his face and looked at his palm.

"What was that? I felt... something."

Nidal looked at him.

"Something like what?"

"The same feeling whenever I come in contact with you. As if energy was being moved from your body into mine. I'm not sure how to actually explain it."

Jacob looked at Nidal with astonishment. He had come into contact with not one, but two wizards new to the academy? This was not good... especially for the unsuspecting weir being dragged into this trap. He quickly weighed the value of their safety verses his.

"If I were you, I would try to control any... releases of energy here. Try to blend in with the Anaweir (those not part of the guilds) and don't speak to any of the teachers or administration. Don't try to leave, they'll know when you get to the fence and your goose will be cooked from there. And please do not say a word about me being here," he whispered.

Jacob looked at Zeroc.

"And you should just shut your mouth, and don't say a word about that 'feeling' you got. You'll be better off if you just forget."

"Look, all you need to know is that all this correctional facility for 'troubled teenagers' is bull crap. There is something bigger going on here, and only the weir are involved. You, Nidal was your name? I'll keep in touch. Don't believe anything the administration or the alumni say. Now just get up, find a dorm room, and make your way to the orientation."

With that, Jacob turned and started to quickly make his way towards the forest.

Nidal and Zeroc looked at each other again.

"But where are the dorms?" they said in unison.

After asking around for a little while, they were able to be given directions at last. They split up and headed to their own dorms, remembering they have no package since they were in prison, and returned to meet up and go to the orientation.

"So why will he only keep in touch with you?"

Nidal shrugged.

"Hell if I know."

Name: Gary

Sex: Male

Age: 14

Guild: Enchanter

(I loved the wizard's apprentice book's.)

Description: Gary had never known himself to be magical, and has always been the center of attention. People around him had always wanted to be close to him, and it made him uncomfortable. He dislikes other people feeling strange around him, and it depressed him. One day as he was walking home from school, a police car came up to him and accused him of burning his family home down. He was taken to the courthouse, but not kept in jail. He believes he is being taken to a reform school now.

Personality: Very uncomfortable around new people, Does not like when people around him feel strangely happy or sad.

Gary lifted his head from his slumber. He realized that he was still in the squad car he had gotten into from the poilce station hours ago. His mind began to race on where they were taking them, each thought getting worse and worse. He began to see a school rise over the mist, and he slumped back in his seat. Once they got to the front of the school, the poilce officer got out of the cruiser and opened the door, forcing him to come out.

Arvena chose a room in the back of the dorm, dumped her bags on the bed, then proceeded to the building near the entrance, one she had identified from a picture in the dorm as the main school building, which also happened to have the auditorium. She followed another 20 or so new students into the large room, where a tall and powerful looking man in a business suit stood, smiling over the the students. Somehow, the smiling figure managed to look menacing. As students walked past him, he greeted them and shook their hands. Most students seem to shrink back from the powerful figure. When it was her turn to grasp the man's hand, she learned why. His grasp unleashed a torrent of power through her. She suddenly understood why Jacob had told her to keep her 'powers' secret. It was obvious that the man was extremely powerful, and she was hoped that the man hadn't noticed the tiny amount of power she let go in shock herself.

"I'm Dr. Zetlin. Weclome to Greenwood Academy. Please, take a seat."

The man gestured to the auditorium and continued to grasp people's hands behind her.

Jacob wandered a ways into the woods, then looked around to make sure no one was watching. Once he was sure of his solitude, he removed a pendant from underneath his shirt - his Celatum Cor - and held it in his hand. He whispered a few words and felt a drain on his strength as light bent and sound bent around him, rendering him unnoticeable. He then made his way to the Alumni building and into the basement, where he lay back on his bed and turned off the spell. Jacob silently removed a book from his mattress and started to read it as he though about the two wizards he had met today.

*Perhaps the three of us could become powerful enough to escape this place...*

(+ 5 points for identifying the series that a lot of this came from, finest. I'm putting a lot of twists in there, but I am stealing a lot of the ideas. This is more of a test for the whole set up of magic in a RP.)

Nidal and Zeroc shook Zetlin's hand and sat down next to each other, chatting about causal stuff as they waited for him to start speaking, in addition to one odd comment.

"You felt that?"

"Yep. Seems to have something special about him."

Gary ripped his arm away from the Policer officer and began to walk towards the school, taking in it's massive structure. He saw many students walk into the school, and sped away from the officer, walking into the school. He walked to the room where the mass of students were, and saw a big man near them.

"Who are you?"

Gary nervously asked.

Dr. Zetlin smiled and held out his hand, preparing another shock of energy.

"I am Dr. Zetlin, Headmaster of this school. I'd advise you to enter the auditorium, as orientation is about to start."

Zetlin stood in shock for a few moments after the last student had entered. He didn't know exactly what had just happened, just that the last boy had suddenly confused him at a touch, to the point where he hadn't released the charge he had stored up for him. He was about to go after the child, when he realized he couldn't remember what he looked like. He sighed, entered the auditorium and marched up the steps to the microphone on the stage where he turned to the crowd.

(Gotta go for now, just gonna slap this up now and do the actual speech and intro and crap tomorrow. night.)

"Greetings, and welcome to Greenwood Academy. We have the best facilities and faculty available to the public for your educational use and rehabilitation. The building you are currently in, obviously, is the main school. All classes will be held here with few exceptions. Physical Education, for one, is generally held out doors at the fields to the north, where there are also indoor facilities for the winter season. All your meals will be served in the mess hall just south of this building, and the dorms, as you should already know, south beyond those as well. To the east of here is, of course, Lake Michigan, and the boat houses. There are other buildings scattered throughout the campus that you may become familiar with later.

There are a few rules that should be applied at all times. One - No going out on the lake at anytime without an administrator's permission. Two - No venturing into the woods that surround the school and its property. Three - No entry to the Alumni building at any time, ever. Besides those, all normal rules apply, no fighting, no cheating, no swearing and all that. You should know the drill at this point of your life. Violations of school rules will be responded to swiftly, and severely. Make no mistake, many of you were sent here for rehabilitation for heinous crimes, so we are allowed to go beyond the average school's punishment.

It should also be noted that as a rehabilitation facility, we have complete control over all materials that enter and exit the facilities. Internet access and phones are disabled and only with special permission will they be allowed.

You will be attending this school until next summer, some of you through the summer semester as well, and I wish to get one thing straight right now. We do not accept shit here. Any attempts to escape school grounds or incite violence will be punished. Severely.

You are now all free to go back to your dorms, mingle and do whatever it is that teenagers do these days until dinner at 7 P.M. sharp. Classes will start tomorrow and students will receive their list of courses and materials needed tomorrow."

Zetlin wandered off the stage. He hated orientation, it simply distracted him from his more important research and projects.

(Those who know the geography of the midwest know that lake Michigan is generally west of Michigan, I'm going ahead and saying that this academy is north of Traverse City on the Peninsula.)
