Pigeons

I really need to stop almost forgetting the nightly question, as I type this out I have 5 minutes 'til tomorrow. So, how y'all feel about pigeons? You see them as the pesky winged rat, or as an adorable little unintelligent being? And ain't it a bit odd how the male pigeons are pretty and the females ain't?

That picture scares me... just gonna start with that.... And to me pigeons are just one of those animals that live out in the world that don't really bother me they just exist kind of thing... lol NOW CROWS crows can just burn in fire >.> freakin things always yelling at me when i try to walk down the st AND freakin one attacked me.

Damn, I feed the crows and they tend to defend my dumbahh. Maybe bring them sacrafices? (Food)

I love pigeons! Any member of the Columbidae family

I admire how they've adapted to urban life

My favourite is the Eurasian Collared Dove! 

Their plumage is pretty and, unlike the Rock Pigeon, they nest in trees, what makes them easier to spot

And umm... what makes you think that female pigeons aren't pretty? 

I think they both are... but to be honest there isn't much difference between male and female rock pigeons

 

I've always liked pigeons, you can find a bunch of them on every city around the world

This might make some people think they're boring , but that makes me like them even more! 

A while ago I read A Pocket Guide to Piegeon Watching by Rosemary Mosco, and I recently started reading Feral Pigeons by Richard F. Johnston & Marián Janiga

The first one is an amazing book, it could make anyone start liking pigeons, it is about our history with pigeons, their anatomy, their genetic variants, some different species and more 

And I'd like to read Pigeons: The Fascinating Saga of the World's Most Revered and Reviled Bird next 

Pigeons are simply fascinating! They've been with us for thousands of years

Birds in general are cool, they are so smart, even when they have small brains

I'd like to learn more about birds! The next few books I'd like to read are about birds 

I really want to read In the Company of Crows and Ravens & also The Genius of Birds

AAA birds and books are a divine combination 

 

Kinda sad there's people who hate pigeons and/or call them winged rats, that's unfair for both pigeons and rats

I think people hate animals for absurd reasons, humans do worse things...

Every critter deserves some love, even the tiniest ant

I'm no Pigeon, but If I'm laying a man's eggs he better be a pretty boy! 

They definitely have a look about them, kind of like a Goldfish? So you wouldn't think there's much going on in there but even those aurum swimmers can be taught to go through hoops and play. I've never actually seen one do anything I'd consider unintelligent.

Pigeons were considered for bomb guidance during WWII because they had natural gyroscopic capabilities and could be taught to recognize enemy targets like ships. They'd peck at an electric interface to adjust their trajectory before ultimately flying up to that great bread basket in the sky with a few sorry souls in tow. Being specialized service members has to account for something right?

I grew up being told that if you sprinkled a bit of salt on their tail feathers, it would throw them off balance just enough that they couldn't immediately take off, and you'd be able to catch one. For years I kicked myself for not bringing a salt packet everytime I went into "The Big City". Turns out it wasn't true, and I found out when a Pigeon landed in my grandma's yard and I told my cousin enthusiastically how we could catch it. Only for my then stepfather to pull me aside to let me know how funny he thought it was that I was passing on the joke. I left that conversation, like many frankly, feeling dissapointed, and now knowing the truth, kept it up because I didn't want to take that boys smile away. We gave it our best but couldn't get close enough. For the record, I was 14, and he 8.

On one final note, pigeons can be crossbreed with chickens to make Pickens! They're comically cute when done right and I want some someday.

Female pidgeons aren't much good looking 'cause they look more dull and ragged, though they're just as fun as any other pidgeon. If I liked books I would definitely read the ones you've mentioed. Rats are awesome too, they have TINY HANDS! You're right about humans doing worse things, us humans do suck sometimes. Oh, and your response isn't too extended, maybe a small bit, but still, it's nice to see someone who's pretty passionate about something like this.

I don't see why not, but I don't know what you'd get really? Pigeons are actually a red meated bird, where as chickens have been bred to be white. Ducks are like extra dark meat and I think are considered brown? Maybe they'd turn out marbled? Ostrich is red and tastes pretty good.

Pigeon eggs are similar in taste to chicken eggs, but if you hardboiled them, the "white" remains translucent. Also smaller.

I've actually wanted to try Pigeon ever since I saw Gordan Ramsay cook one.
