Why does everyone like Princess Luna so much?

I like Princess Luna's character design and I feel bad for Luna because she couldn't properly express her emotions to Princess Celestia

which, led to the sisters being separated from each other for a very long time. 🥺

1) Tabitha is amazing (she's also Rarity)

and she's Minty in G3

2) Woona appeals as an outsider. Nopony wants a pony who's got it all made, like her snow white alicorn sister.

3) She was the first princess to feature in an ep as a proper character - it took ages for 'Tia to do much - and her first eps were strong, like Luna Eclipsed

also, the fandom is silly. what the hay was all that about Derpy? :P she was a random background pony! (although she was voiced by Tabby. that must be it!)

She's very relatable to me, as I'm nocturnal and introvert too, and I think many people in the fandom have similar feelings. Also her design is unique, most ponies have bright colors while she's dark.

I like Celestia as well, but in this case it's pure admiration instead of relatability.

My take is that Luna has a pretty cool design artistically and her whole struggling to fit in arc was really endearing and relatable to a lot of fans who themselves find it challenging to fit in sometimes.

The world loves to root for an underdog and this fandom is loaded with edgelords who love breaking the status quo, and then latched onto the the first character that was all about that.

Many got into this thing because it wasn't meant for us, and here we are. Funnily it could be easily argued that her popularity has reached such peaks, that to break the status quo now would be to not view her on such a high pedestal.

Poking aside, my personal preference for the character developed from a sense of injustice towards her, growing out from her potential, and finally what we've built her up to be, particularly through the efforts of Team Moon in the World Cup we host here.

I like her design, voice, personality, and story. Being a little sister myself, I think some parts of her character are funny and relatable, especially in the episodes focused on her. As for the rest of the fandom, I feel like she's just a relevant character, and most relevant characters are given similar treatment (although her fans are a bit more passionate I think). I think another factor could be that a lot of her traits can appeal to a wide variety of people so it makes sense she'd have a lot of fans. Like when I was little I just liked the fact that she was a magical princess who was pretty, but a lot of older fans found her mysterious design and personality intriguing too.

She’s interesting and engaging because she’s so understated and doesn’t really fit in with the other ponies. That makes me want to know more about her. It’s almost like having a pet cat versus a pet dog. Dogs are always ‘on’, and will jump up on you and lick your face with affection. But cats are independent and indifferent; living their own lives without the need for feedback. I’m a cat person because I like that aloof nature and find it compelling. Luna is also nocturnal and mysterious, which are other traits I value. She has a dimension that I don’t see in other ponies and that’s what I love about her.

I can relate to the fictional character Princess Luna, because I know how it feels for others to forever hold your past against you, even when you did learn to behave better. While she wasn't a child when she took her outbursts motivated by feeling of neglect out on her sister in the origin of Friendship is Magic tv show, that's not the point, the point is has shown herself to be capable of empathy and lives by it as the show progressed. Look, I understand that her actions had terrible implications for Equestrian ecosystem as well as violence toward her own sister 1,000 years prior, but even then, she owned up to her mistake when she reconciled with her sister Celestia.

When people dismiss the idea of redemption as not important, that's harmful and it's almost like suggesting individuals should continue toxic behaviour and take their problems out on everybody else. Justice must be balanced with mercy, otherwise you get neither. Rule by inciting fear and division, and peace will never happen. Celestia could've banished her sister to the moon again if she wanted to, ruling Equestria with an iron hoof, but she chose not to, why? because she is not a tyrant, she values her subjects enough to not make violence her first option whenever there is a dispute going on, she wants to understand the deeper motivations behind others actions, in Luna's case, discrimination and not being appreciated.

Luna doesn’t have the most pleasant background story, so it’s easier to sympathize with her. No one (besides villains) had spite with Celestia or Cadance or Twilight. It’s kind of like how citizens elect a leader who is one of them. They’d rather elect a leader who was once a citizen and knows what they’re going through instead of electing an aristocratic government official who doesn’t care as much about the common folk. Luna is like the common leader to me, which is why she’s my favorite princess.
