gaming Source Filmmaker Videos

As you can see, Source Filmmaker has been released for free. If you still didn't get it, get it here, you will need a Steam Account to install it.

Now that this software has been officially released, i'd like to make this topic a place where you can post the videos you create with SFM, or the ones that you know and you'd like to share.

Getting the hand of SFM is hard, but don't worry, this official channel in YouTube will help you to understand how it works.

I've been looking into it and I plan on doing quite a bit with it.

The tutorial though on the official site could be better. He uses quite a bit of vocabulary I feel only people who study 3D animation would know (I've gotten enough to hit some bases, but nothing I'd call a full education on the subject).

But making a tutorial for this would be pretty hard though. This program seems more like something that one has to toy around with in order to learn how to use it.

I think to make simple projects that don't demand detail will be fairly easy to make with this tool, but if you want attention to detail this tool will get harder and harder the more you want to perfect your animation.

Also, (I'm waiting for it to download so I cannot check) does it only work with TF2 so far?

I've seen it advertised as it includes the game data for TF2 and the "Meet the x" video data, and I've only seen TF2 videos come out of the Beta. But does it currently work with all Source Engine material in a manner such as Garrys Mod?

Like can you import things from Half Life 2 or Counter Strike Source and make videos with those?

I've been looking forward to bringing in some of my favorite models from Garrys Mod materials, but it seems only TF2 stuff until further updates.

I'm agreed with what you said about the vocabulary, it makes it a bit hard to understand.

And yes, as far as i've seen you can import things from HL2, CSS and other Source games.

Yes good news indeed. I was fearing that we'd have to wait on updates for those but good thing we've got them.

And I definitely caught on to the vocabulary gap because at the beginning where he spoke on editing the video, I understood everything perfectly because I'm familiar with video editing (I learned how to use Adobe Premier Pro in school)

But the 3D animation part he started to lose me after a while. I understand a little bit since I learned animation via Adobe Flash, but then when he pulled in the 3D elements I then got lost. I do plan on learning 3D Sudio Max this year so I can try my hand in 3D animation, so maybe I could understand some of the finer points he's getting to then.

Until then, for now I'll just toy around and make educated guesses at the animation. It doesn't look too hard, but like I said, getting that detail will be really hard and take a lot of work to get down.

Wrong, you can already do custom models and materials etc from garys mod or any source game.

Although I haven't tried, I assume it is as easy as copying the models etc to the correct folders, but I have seen people make sfm movies with custom content so it is possible.

I got to import ponies in SFM!

Like I said I am waiting on it to download myself and I was waiting on an answer and asking if my suspicions were correct.

And like posted above my suspicions were proven wrong, but thank you for a second opinion.

Muhahaha!

You were thinking exactly what I was thinking, but I'm not sure what you could really do with them.

Ponies came in after my GMod craze so I am unfamiliar with the Pony Mod content on Garrys Mod. I do know of the Pony Models (which aren't very good looking IMO but hey its transferring 2D to 3D), but I am unsure what exactly you could do with those in Source Filmmaker.

I also know a few other TF2 mods including Pony hats and weapons, and an Anthro Rainbow Dash Scout model.
