Evilshy 5,090 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 (edited) What I'm trying to say in all, is was there a feedback thread made for this asking resolution? Or did Evilshy feel as though it would be pounced upon by Section Moderators and shut down and hidden due to slander of moderators? If so, then it feels the community is feeling like they have the Gestapo on them. If there was no thread, then the process has been mucked in my opinion. Actually, I did it in a PM for three reasons: 1. I went to sleep while the Boatloads thread was still up, but when I woke up and realized that I had never gotten a straight answer, the thread had been locked. 2. I didn't post it in feedback because the general community was still quite heated and divided on the subject, so I didn't want to deal with tons of other users coming in and posting their opinions because it would probably end up being Boatloads 2.0 and get locked again. I figured going straight to the source was a good way to get an answer. 3. I was still a bit frustrated b the whole thing and wanted my goddamn answer, and I felt that a PM to the owner would get a quicker and more thorough answer than a feedback/question thread, for some of the reasons listed above. And in case there is still any confusion, I'm okay with all of this now. Sure, there have been a lot more deletions, and quite a few things have been deleted that I would not have, but the new mods seem to have proven themselves. I don't want anybody going around thinking I hate the staff and think they're out to oppress us all Also, this is the coolest and most open-minded site administration I've ever seen Edited July 23, 2012 by Evilshy 14 Signature now 99% less edgy! RockinRarity 1,605 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 As a mod on another forum, I don't care how many more mods you add. There could be 100 mods here and I wouldn't care, because I trust the administration on this website and I understand that, sometimes, more moderators are needed than your everyday user may think. Of course over-hiring is possible, but I have yet to find that to be a problem on a forum. I could be wrong, though. It seems to me that proactive moderation actually helps the users and the staff connect with one another on a personal level. I am personally not a fan of the cold-cut type of moderation where you feel like the person with the power is some intense robot who knows how to lock all the right threads and ban all the right people. I was semi-active on a Catholic forum once where the moderation worked like that. I think for that particular forum (which is HUGE), it worked. But it would not work on a forum where we try to establish a community. Reactive moderation would also be really boring to me. As a moderator, I rarely get to see anyone press the Report button. Most of the time, people would either PM me or another moderator had already taken care of the issue. Now that's no fun (not that moderating is supposed to be fun... hush hush people, I didn't say a word!) I am a fan of the moderation system here. I have never had my doubts, and I probably never will. Keep up the good work, gentlemen. 4 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
Arylett Charnoa 4,919 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 I am a fan of the moderation system here. I have never had my doubts, and I probably never will. Keep up the good work, gentlemen. Gentlemen... and Arylett. Anyways, jokes about my gender aside, I rather enjoyed reading this PM. It was nice to see that Feld0 had managed to explain things in such a concise manner to quell the concerns of users. It is something I wish I could do so myself. I'm not really the best at explaining things, especially when people are disputing me. Very admirable that he took the time to explain that in so many words, and didn't half ass it one bit. I myself do enjoy being part of the moderation asides from a few minor issues that crop up here and there. Everyone acts professionally, and doesn't act snarky nor insult the users like my last forums. It's very all very clean. Not perfect, again, but clean. And certainly superior to what I experienced in the past. As one of the more proactive moderators, managing a section that barely gets anything reported (RP World), I too can attest that it is very useful in keeping things from going out of control. We're just here to watch the bad stuff, not clamp down on everyone like nazis. Keeping it clean, keeping it cool, keeping it enjoyable. 5 Aether Velvet is the name of the OC in my avatar. Strife 455 July 23, 2012 Share July 23, 2012 As an aside, I would like to point out that while I disagree with certain actions that go on around these forums, sending a message to Zoop, Swoop and/or Feld0 WILL get you a response. Sometimes a bit delayed due to things called Life, but you will get a response. Heck, they will usually take the time to carry on the conversation, if you need further explanation. Bottomline: While I have my differing opinions, they do answer PMs. Anyone that insists on complaining and refuses to contact an Admin, really has no justifiable right to complain, in my opinion. As for the topic of Proactive Moderation, it works extremely well. I use it myself in some of my websites. The only real problem is that the larger the Moderation Staff, the larger chance you'll get opinionated bias (usually by mistake). Only way for proactive moderation to work is by making sure the staff works as streamlined and identical as possible.
Crystal Sparkle 344 July 27, 2012 Share July 27, 2012 I agree with this, and I think it's a great idea. While, not impossible, I don't feel that people would delete a post that they just don't like. (Feld0 wouldn't hire anyone that immature.) But it helps to gain a much control as they possibly can, with the growth of the site and all. After all, it's still the same people we know and love...just with super mod powers now! ~I love the way Storm Spark makes love to me! Nah 3,182 July 27, 2012 Share July 27, 2012 It's nice we have great moderators, although, we need to be on the lookout for members that are promoted, we don't want ones taking their powers in their heads. We also have some open minded ones that care about us, but please, don't delete posts that do with the topic and have a reference, last I checked, making ASDF movie references was not "racist". I personally don't think that every mod that is a mod should hold their position, some of them are too immature to control their personal bias, and it makes for unhappy members. Crispy 5,563 July 28, 2012 Share July 28, 2012 As someone who remembers a time without mods (and co-admins), I like what we've got going here. Every mod I've run into is well-mannered and will explain why you are being disciplined/thread being moved/whatever. That and they bothered posting back and forth with a drunk guy angry about his thread (i.e. me) without losing their cool. That's pretty legit regardless of where you are on the internet. 3 GET IN THE PIT On 8/23/2012 at 1:54 AM, Djenty said: ON MLP 4UMS ERRYTHIN IS SRS

That wouldn't work anyways, lol. 1 Follow my blog! ~The Mind of Sally - Experiences, Opinions, Musings~
