Question: Whats a vector?

OK, so I'm a total newb. I never heard the word before I came to the MLP forums.

so can you define "Vector" please?

Well, unlike png's and jpg's which store pixel information on a grid, vectors store information of lines and colors/backgrounds in relation to each other, so it's infinitely resizable. Or something like that.

I think you'll find that this topic will answer your questions regarding vector graphics in considerable detail. :)

 

If you'd like a shorter summary however, a vector graphic is essentially the use of a group of points, lines, curves, and shapes to represent an image. Because a vector graphic is created by using set lines and joins (refered to as paths and anchors), the images can be resized without reducing the quality of the image.

Do you know about all that annoying math like algebra, trig, and calculus? That's what is in a vector. It's so you don't get a pixely look to your art. Most computer artists use vectors to have seemless edges to their images. Hope that answers your question.
