**looks for a tag othen than "feedback" and "problem"**

What? it must be here...

**keeps on looking...**

seriously?... no, I have to keep on looking harder.

**keeps on looking but fails after several attempts**

So... we don't have a suggestion tag in here? oh well, I'll put this one on "feedback", becuase it kind of is involved with feedback about the lack of tags.

Anyways, jokes aside, I'm here posting this because I had an idea when I saw a lot of threads like "christmas thanks", "goodbye everyone", "I need help" and many other similar to those. Back in another forum, that I was on, we had (and have) a whole subforum called "Life problems & help" dedicated to things assosiated with IRL problems like: "I can't sleep at night", "I need your support", "how should I dress for...", "parents don't understand", "life decision" and so on. What I'm trying to say is that we should have a subforum that is dedicated of helping other people with theyr RL problems or just to share lulzy things that happened the other day, becuase I believe that there are people that need support/help about the RL (I'm one of them, by the way) or just need to talk it out. It will make the forum much more social and everyone will feel more like at home.

Though, if such subforum would be made, it should also have some restrictions. Not everyone could see that subforum. Guests, blank flanks and members couldn't Shouldn't see it, because they could be trolls and could make matters worse with theyr bad comments and bad jokes. Only Advanced members or even members that have over 100 posts could see it and post in it , making sure that the threads would not be trolled and the OP of a thread would be satisfied with the help/support he/she got.

On another note, it should be (if this idea get accepted of course) created in everfree forest as a subforum, like visual art and non-pony art in octavia's hall, though I can see that you're trying to make as less subforums as possible here in MLPforums, so I doubt this will be accepted.

So, Big cheeses (Feld0 and kurtiss) and everyone else, what do you think about this idea? I'm sure that it would make the forums much more friendlyer and maybe even we would get more members to join us... Or is this purely a Fan forum where we only discuss about the show and nothing else? If so, delete this thread. Also, I'll make a poll just to see what you think of this...

P.S. My WhiteSmoke License just got backlisted AND I'm very tired . So... My grammar will be just terrible. Sorry in advance.

I don't think we really need a subforum for that.

First is there are not enough posts like that to really need their own home. Second is the Everfree Forest is the best place for them.

If someone has a problem and it gets resolved then there is no need for the thread anymore...the way we have it, in the EF once a thread no longer has a purpose it will then get buried under all the other threads but if we separate them into their own sub forum then the chances are a resolved issue will still be on the first page and because of that will get useless/late replies.

Don't want to be rude but... So what if there will be few post in it at the start? Eventually everyone will be ok with it and open up and it will be just "flooded". And besides, there are far more people that want to open up, share theyr emotions and that need support than you think

We can allways add tags that only the OP of the thread can change it. For example, I need an opinion/suggestions on what to say to my parents tommorow so I create a thread in the RL help forum and I set it to "not resolved". Then after everyone has shared theyr opinions I change the tag to "resolved" (asuming I found a great comment on what to say to them) and close the thread or ask and admin/mod to close it for me.

And I'm not only talking about "fast" threads, I'm talking about threads like "Need support" or "why can't I fall asleep" or "should I quit my job because I don't like it" too, in which you could still reply after a month and the reply still would be useful for the OP.

Well if there are only a few posts then there is not a point of making a sub-forum. I don't really see a point in making a sub-forum because it might eventually become well used. Don't get me wrong, the idea is nice but there is no need for one at the moment.

These threads you are talking about seem like they would fit just fine in the Everfree Forest.

I disagree with you. Every thread like that is meaningful and I believe that it will eventually become well used. Though I kind of agree with you, if we don't get a lot of threads we should save this idea after we get like... I don't know, maybe 2000 registrated users and over 250 people that are active per day?

Maybe yes, Maybe no, Though these kinds of threads wouldn't get over-looked and more people would reply to them.

I don't know if we get enough of those to make an entire subforum for them, but as the community grows and they become more abundant, I think it might be a good idea? :) ~

That's what I'm thinking too. :P

Just my two dimes.

Sub boards, in my view, are something that should be created only when there is a clear and established need for them.

In the case of the non-pony subsection of Octavia's hall, it was established due to a growing quantity of off-topic artistic works created by members here, half of which were being posted in the Everfree Forest, the other half in the main Hall among the pony works; in the case of the visual art subsection, it was created in response to the fact that the vast number of visual arts threads were starting to crowd out all other types of creative works within Octavia's Hall.

Personally, I like the concise nature of the forum index here; there are no gaming sub boards, no sports sub boards, no sub boards for television shows or anime series, for web comics, or whatever other tangents people may discuss once in a blue moon. Board and sub board clutter, to me, is extremely unattractive, especially when said boards and sub boards are rarely, if at all, actively used.

With that said, I think expanding the category selection in the Everfree Forest to include a selection beyond simply 'debate' (a 'support' prefix could fit your suggestion, perhaps?) would be a more practical idea for the time being. Then, if that were to take off, the idea could perhaps be revisited once an actual demand for such a thing were to be subsequently established.

This... when the time comes and we see a need for such a subforum then it should be made. As of right now the Everfree Forest seems perfectly fine with a few Life Problem threads!

As the saying goes "Why fix what ain't broke?" It's a good idea and I'd be perfectly okay if this were to happen (I mean I like this idea... for the most part), but I'm just saying that this doesn't seem necessary for the forums at the moment.

I have just one question:

How is a life counseling subforum relevant to a pony community?

From an administrative standpoint, it is a completely off-topic section, the purPose of which can be better served by private messaging or even other communities like Kids' Help Phone.

We could add a prefix to Everfree Forest to help separate such "help" threads from the other things in there; but like a few others, I don't see the point of adding an entire section for them.

See Zoop's reply for the rest of my thoughts. Clutter is a common method admins use to kill their forums. ;)

I've got two more answers to add to this thread. Sorry - made my last post from my mom's iPhone in the car, and using it to write up lots of text was quite awkward. :P

A suggestion is a form of feedback. Feedback may come in the form of (constructive) criticism, (positive) appreciation of things we do well, and direct suggestions for additions and improvement. So a special "suggestion" prefix is unnecessary, since most of the feedback we receive is of the first or third kind, anyway. :)

So, Big cheeses (Feld0 and kurtiss) and everyone else, what do you think about this idea? Like it or not... yes, we are purely a My Little Pony fan forum. We have a limited number of non-pony discussion sections here which are provided mostly as a courtesy; but Kurtiss and I want to focus on making MLP Forums the very best pony forum it can be.

To achieve that, we're much better off spending our time working with the pony-centric side of the site instead of expanding and maintaining the non-pony side.

I see, I see. Interesting. It's a bit of a shame though, but if it's a fan forum, then it has to be a fan forum only. Even though as you said that it's only a MLP:FiM I still have high hopes that some day this kind of subforum will be created.
