MLP misinformation = good thing?

Hey guys. This is the thought I came up with yesterday, thought I might have a look at what other ponies think about it. Let's face it: When people are hating on MLP, it's mostly because they don't know it. But if everypony was informed and knew it's pretty much a regular (yet great) show, not just a show for small children, would there be any bronies? In other words-aren't bronies so great and loving and tolerating (mostly) BECAUSE bronies are only people open minded enough to give "children show" a shot? Discuss below. :D

Edit: adding the point I've made to the original post:

Haters are, at least in this case, people who judge without knowing. And people who do that don't become bronies. But if it was generally known fact-that the ponies are so awesome-this "filter" wouldn't work. :D At least this is the way I see it.

No, many people do not like it because ponies are not for everyone.

Our show isn't the prodigal son of tv, it's ok :P

Even if people were "informed" as you say, I think it would end up the same as it is now.

I know, but most people are hating because they think it's a childrens show xD

Actually, I'll have to disagree. For example, my mother hates the show because it's girly and thinks that dudes shouldn't watch it. I think if she'd actually had seen one episode she would say otherwise, I'm sure of it :/

Uhh, dude?

The show is girly. It's ponies.

I do agree that your mom shouldn't hate it FOR it, but there are many ways to convince her otherwise.

Well duh, of course I know it's girly xD

But please tell me, is there a better way to convince her otherwise than to show her an actual episode?

I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like the show because they have negative preconceptions of it, but that's not really the case for everyone. For a lot of those people, though, I think one of the major reasons they refuse to give Friendship is Magic a chance because they associate it with all the other generations of the show, which were admittedly horrifying. :P

As for others who hate the show for their own reasons, I say live and let live, really. I don't appreciate being pushed toward "normality", by people who don't understand the subculture, but I can understand why some of them would be opposed to it. Whether or not they decide to give the show a chance is ultimately up to them, but the way we're commonly portrayed in the media might turn people away before they really get to form their own opinions.

Dude, mind reading isn't polite, do you know ?

Exactly the thing I was thinking about past week, but I was too lazy to actually post it. I agree with you, and I fear the day (if it will ever come) when being a brony will become ,,cool" or mainstream. I do believe that this community is so great mainly because of this natural filter, which won't let haters trough.

EDIT : Removing doublequote.

personaly i think we should not do that,

do we rely feel the need to justifiy likeing a show are we that insecure, let people descover the show on there own, hell some haters dont like us because we try to force the show onto people and i see what they mean i've been on youtube and seen comment by bronies that were pretty much preaching MLP to people.

also if we decided to try to make people informed about MLP how do you think they would react?

"oh thank you sir for showing me the light and the error of my hating ways" or "GTFO and stop acting like a johovice witness"

I think if we start trying to inform people who dislike the show, we'll just be creating more hate. We are wrong to force the show on everyone. It's not going to change their minds. It's just going to make them hate it more. So I think we have to Tolerate haters and not let them get to us.

As Crona regularly points out, the show IS girly, it is NOT the greatest show or even the best cartoon ever (though maybe best cartoon out now), not everybody will like it even after watching an episode or two, and we have to stop believing that it's like the god of all thongs entertainment.

Plus do we REALLY want the type of people who judge things without trying and troll things like this for the lulz to become bronies? For the most part, I think not.

This is what I'm saying. It shall never become mainstream! (This being said, I know some extremely hardcore trolls who are bronies.)

And it should stay that way! My inner hipster tells me that I'd really lose interest in the fanbase if this whole thing suddenly became "cool" or "popular."

And I have no problem with trolls, i meant more along the lines of people who troll bronies. I used to be a complete internet douchebag, it really loses it's appeal when you can find a great community like this one where you actually make friends, not just "troll buddies."
