Roleplay World - Post Count incrementation removed in Roleplays

Um guys, here's what I consider to be a very good question, why does it matter?

"Oh no, a number on my profile won't go up!"

I mean seriously? Are we all really that bored that we have to resort to this?

If you all are really that concerned with a number and a picture, why don't you go play Pokemon and calm down? Plenty of numbers and pictures there.

Ok, so first off, Roleplaying takes skill. It is practically text based improv, if I am posting something creative and I am doing it often I expect to get it counted towards post count. Second, Games (well most of them) take little to no skill whatsoever, some are just one word posts, so of course they should not be counted.

Are you people really going to use the "well a couple months ago you wouldn't have been making any posts" ? I had not attended any forum at all a couple months ago, I learned of this through a mistake on google and decided to join. I did not even know the joys of roleplaying until now. Bottom line is that it really is discrimination no matter how you look at it.

How the hell is it discriminating?

Oh ok, let's use your logic.

"Posts don't count in forum games section. HOLY SHIT, THEY ARE DISCRIMINATING US, FELD0 HATES US SO MUCH."

See?

I won't lie, roleplaying does take skill. But just because it takes skill, it doesn't mean we should get rewarded for it.

I've been roleplaying for eight years. I have NEVER asked for a fucking medal for it. I roleplay because it is enjoyable. Not because I expect a reward.

So let me get this straight, just because a person comes here to only rp they should be looked down upon? How does that make sense? Some of the most creative, thoughtful people create RP's, I am second in command in one that is becoming one of the biggest most amazing RP's i have ever attended. I helped build the entire lore of the RP ground up. It has probably the best plot out of any roleplay I have played and I plan on making a fanfic out of it. So, I ask you, why should rpers be looked down upon? It has become my favorite past time activity and I really do not want to leave a forum because they discriminate upon RPers

Here, read this thread

http://mlpforums.com/topic/17914-roleplay-world-blank-flanks-and-post-count/

RP world was given the privilege of ultra-rapid post count gain because Arylett was forced to put a restriction on the section so it won't be overrun by blank flank.

Now the section itself is now (maybe) literally flipped over by the massive activities of roleplayers, which result in some RP-ers with huge badges become cocky, she decided to remove it.

RPers are not looked down upon, it's just seems weird when we look at those huge badges owned by some RPers, but we rarely see them talking with the rest of the community

Well, that's what I got in my head though

I'm glad we came to an agreement, it's good to see someone on the forum finally stray away from anger ^-^

I really do not understand what you are trying to say. I have been writing these comments with a calm and level head. There is no anger here, only curiosity and sadness.

I'm talking about you. You come into the thread yelling,

"Oh my god, tyranny you guys! They won't let us post!!!111"

You didn't type it like that, but that is exactly how I take it. You scream you have no rights on the forum, yet you refuse to see we do.

We have a right to post on the forum, because feld0 granted us the right.

I only joined the forums in late October to RP, and the posts didn't even count, I stayed because I found the community interesting, and that they offered a variety of threads, seriously you can get over this, I stayed even though RP posts didn't increase my post count....

It is not discrimination. Perhaps I should put this in a different way -

This is simply the recognizing, once again (as we previously did not have post count in RP World as Dreamwalker said), that Roleplay World is its own separate section and separate from the rest of the site. We have our own special moderators, our own special rules to be followed. It truly is an island on the forum's mainland. There is a small clique that lives on the island, and do not wander to the rest of the forums. To give that clique higher ranks is rather unfair to those who do not care for the island at all. It breeds resentment, and it breeds entitlement. Members should be roleplaying because they find it fun, not because they want to spam their way to a badge.

I only turned on post count because it was an experiment. I thought that roleplayers were deserving of it, and that their posts had enough quality. Now, I have seen for some time since I have implemented it people spamming their way to higher badges. Now that people have less incentive to spam, the quality should increase. In short: yes, people abused a feature I gave them, and now I removed it. It's that simple. No one is being discriminated against. RP World is still an important section, and that's why we expect quality out of you.

Most RPs have dialogue, at least most of the RPs I'm in. Reducing it by 50 would help tremendously with the quality of those bits. It doesn't seem like much, but it makes a difference

And this is the problem I am trying to relieve.

The misconception that a roleplay is only made up of dialogue. It is not. Allow me to ask you this: Is a book only made of dialogue? A book needs descriptions about the setting, the characters' feelings, their tones, their actions. This is what creates a story of detail and quality.

As of now, members post in Roleplay World as though it were a chatroom. Posting only dialogue may fly for a chatroom as shorter is expected, but it does not on a forum. On a forum, more detail is expected, and this is the reason the character limit was put across the site as a whole. Specifically why it is higher in Roleplay World is because stories are supposed to have more detail than a normal post, which is what Roleplays are. If you want to roleplay like that, just use Skype or another instant messaging service. Forums archive your posts, forums are made for slower-paced discussion and more well-thought out ideas.

This is the last I will say of this matter, as I do not wish to continue yet another argument into the fire of arguments that have been going about moderation decisions lately.

Edit: Dangit, Finest! You ninja. Oh well, it still applies for anyone else who might think the same thing. :)

I'm actually glad that they were removed in the roleplay section. I do not roleplay myself and it felt weird to see some usually not very much posting ponies get like 500 posts and new badges in just a week because of roleplaying when they are never seen anywhere else. *thinking of a certain un-named pony*

I agree with this though. This makes sense since it was like this before and since there are ALOT of posts in that section that could be achieved easier. I checked and I lost about 200 (give or take a few) posts from this, but it's alright, I still love you forums. ;)

Message to all people who are sad about their post count! It doesn't matter. Post count doesn't make me or most people think higher of you. I have a high respect for those who don't have one the higher ranks because of their personality, intelligence, and humor and not because of their post count. I personally could care less. Same with brohoofs.

Compared to the number, you're like an ant.

Feld0 rules over ALL of us.

Alright let me suggest to you this. Seeing as it is how you put it "an island from the rest of the forums" perhaps you could make separate RP badges that are only earned through RPing, that way when others on the forum look at your regular badge "bunny" they would think "well that guy doesn't come around here much" but then they look at the second badge and say "cool that guy rp's a whole bunch, what an awesome creative guy".

I think you misunderstood what I said. I meant that there are small bits of character to character speech, not the entire thing.

If a completely pointless number no longer increasing has the chance of causing you to leave a perfectly good community, I think a bigger concern would be finding out why you care about this number so much.

Okay maybe he was not trying to test me personally, but rather he was trying to test all of the kids like me who just joined the forums but are quickly rising up the ranks.

I am highly- and I cannot stress this enough, HIGHLY competitive, numbers mean everything to me. Is that necessarily a bad thing? I don't thing so.

This is from a different quote, but I don't feel like going back.

Are you seriously bitching about popularity?

Roleplaying badges makes no sense. No one is going to go to the forum JUST to roleplay. This is a forum before anything. A place of discussion. Not pretending to be a pony.

Just because you have a nifty badge, doesn't mean you get respect. I am top poster. Do I get very much respect? I don't think so. Sure, people see me and think "Gee, he spends a lot of time here."

But it doesn't make me well known. What makes me known is that I post everywhere, and I talk to people. Not because I hang out in one section.

It's bad when you hardly ever bothered to talk with the rest of the community, you know.

Believe me, try to post at least twenty times a day at the Everfree Forest. That place got dozens of good thread, all you have to do is read a little bit and type something. Within less than a month you will reach Pegasus!

Okay, so now it feels like you are getting hostile. As I said before, I am highly competitive and I love seeing ranks and levels, It is why I play Battlefield it is why I play MVC3. Do I ONLY come here to post on RP? No. But it is a very, very significant source of posts for me.

Forums games and roleplays are way different. Forum games are for playing games with one word replies. Roleplays actually take more thought than a normal post for me (Especially when you are running one.) because I have to think through the mind of my OC or character that I am playing as and then act out as I think they would in a 200 character response.

Do you enjoy "competing" with people who don't even know it's a "competition"? I'm sure "beating" hundreds of Blanks-Flanks who don't even know the RP World section exists must make you feel great.

Now, if you want to "compete" why not use all of that creativity you undoubtedly have to make creative and unique posts OUTSIDE of the RP World?

I feel bad that you lost the recognition you deserved but it's not fair that they keep the rule to please a few members, let plenty of other members break the balance of their post counts, and many more members find it unfair.

Anybody can make a character, and join an RP, but it takes skill to have any actual recognition

I personally think that I have seen way more creative and unique posts in the roleplay world than outside in the other sections. It kind of gives you a little freedom to be creative.
